ReStructure Mix Update (12/28/15) “Too Blind To See It” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kym Sims

ReStructure Mix Update (12/28/15) “Too Blind To See It” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kym Sims
Kym Sims took the lead in house music’s peak of pop-crossover tracks with “Too Blind To See It” in 1992. Produced by Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and polished with the elements which shifted dance music in the mid-80s with earlier influence of the Paradise Garage sound and feel. A catchy number from start to finish and framed perfectly with a sampled riff from the ladies First Choice and their garage classic. This salutes to 90’s dance music gives Kym’s classic another chance to display what it is and was.

I have taken the 12” “Hurley House” vocal and instrumental to weave a ReStructure Mix with a touch more of the stomping feel of an underground disco piece and yet holding onto the original sound. This one has that catchy chorus and of course that Hurley production which made us believe again that dance music was and will always be here to stay!

ReStructure Mix Update (12/27/15) “Grand Illusion” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Donna Summer

ReStructure Mix Update (12/27/15) “Grand Illusion” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Donna Summer

Donna Summer introduced a new side of her vocal talents in 1980 with her project “The Wanderer”. Donna along with Giorgio Moroder moved her sound into the 80s with an electronic dance rock edge. Many of the tracks from the session are the 80s transition from disco music to a new pop-rock feel. “Grand Illusion” is one of Donna’s creative moments where Moroder accompanied her incredible range with a strange but alluring moog and synthesizer treatment. An early morning or slight rock-new age feel and along with Donna’s experimental touch makes a statement.

I have always wanted to bring “Grand Illusion” into a new arrangement and direction. This ReStructure Mix brings it to a new level with Donna’s mystique sound and Moroder’s electric fantasy. I have added a few new elements to even out the rhythm and beat and focused on keeping the original feel intact.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/18/15) “Tale Of Three Cities” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Salsoul Orchestra

ReStructure Mix Update (12/18/15) “Tale Of Three Cities” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Salsoul Orchestra

The Salsoul Orchestra is the movement in disco music which provided a transition from soul and funk into a phenomenon. Lead by Vincent Montana Jr. and many of the players from Philly recordings (Bobby Eli, Ron Baker, Norman Harris, Earl Young, and John Davis) this studio session became the mark of a new era of dance floor excitement. “Tale Of Three Cities” is a piece from the first album released in 1975 and plays out much like jazz slowing over a disco beat. One of the big moments for the ensemble and disco music to lure those who were searching for something to look and feel up to.

I have taken the original album version of “Tale Of Three Cities” and re-worked a ReStructure Mix to place this funky arrangement in a new form. Lots of drum pattern effects and lasting strings. It is a beautiful number which deserves another opportunity to play out what good rhythms sound like.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to D.C. LaRue – thank you David for all of your talent and work…and for requesting this quiet giant for remixing.

“Fire” by Madleen Kane – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Fire” by Madleen Kane – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Madleen Kane made a transition into 80s dance music from 70s disco as if a red carpet were waiting below a mirror ball all along. In 1985 the project “Cover Girl” introduced her soft and sensual delivery and gave dance floors more of what this fabulous chanteuse could deliver. “Fire” is a cut from the project that contains pulsating high energy synthesizers and wicked keyboards as Madleen describes a desire for her lover. Produced by Ian Anthony Stephens who is one of the big forces in the rejuvenation of 80s dance music with projects from Hazell Dean, Paul Parker (who co-writes on this album), Marsha Raven and Pamala Stanley.

I have taken “Fire” and paired it with the 1941 screwball comedy “Ball Of Fire” from 1941 – starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. The plot involves a professor who meets and falls for a nightclub singer during his research project. Barbara is more of the main frame here and her great picturesque image on the silver screen. Thanks to Madleen’s number she is transformed a bit closer to our nightclub scene.

“Deep, Dark, Delicious Night” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Deep, Dark, Delicious Night” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. LaRue’s album “Cathedrals” from 1976 painted a wonderful entrance for this unique artist. The big title track became a mark in disco history for D.C. as his vision and sound were always creative and polished. “Deep, Dark, Delicious Night” is another tracks from the album which brings to mind a period of imagination which added a lure for the nightlife scene and growing disco boom. The song beckons you into the nightlife where dancing is not the only desire and the opportunity for a new romance is always present.

I have taken scenes from the 1983 erotic horror film, “The Hunger” starring Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie and Susan Sarandon and created a darker side of desire in this tale of vampires. The immortal heroine played by Catherine is the focus of ‘the hope’ in a twist. It plays out more of a montage and works with D.C.’s masterful stage-like performance.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/13/15) “Grazing In The Grass” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Meco

ReStructure Mix Update (12/13/15) “Grazing In The Grass” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Meco

Meco Monardo is one of the big sounds of the disco ball on any dance floor. His big dance hit from 1977 was the orchestrated disco version of “Star Wars” which remains one of the exciting moments in pop culture where pop music met film with a new attitude and sound. His fifth album “Moondancer” from 1979 is one of the quiet pieces but not for any reasons of its content. This one remains true to the galactic theme with a funky edge, jazz feel and heavy disco rhythms.

I have taken the short album version of Meco’s cover of Hugh Masekela
S 1968 hit. This is a nice trumpet blaring dance call with lots of the original feel and some great drum work. This ReStructure Mix not only extends this nice work – but also gives it a touch of the original.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/12/15) “Get Another Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Chantal Curtis

ReStructure Mix Update (12/12/15) “Get Another Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Chantal Curtis

Chantal Curtis is a French vocalist who also known as Michele in an earlier recording session from 1977 is titled “Magic Love” from producer Pierre Jaubert. This was the voice of mature disco pf the late seventies as it polished itself into a chic nightclub feel and formula. “Get Another Love” was released in 1979 and hit at a time when disco music had reached a peak and also saturated the market with so many new artists and acts it was easy to get lost or overlooked. The single from the same titled album is a classic among many disco collectors and fans. It was a bold yet sweet piece that also is rare to find a home for a harmonica among the groovy keyboards, bass, beats and Chantal.

I have taken the 12” vocal mix to recreate a ReStructure Mix of “Get Another Love” and applying the chop and paste arrangement to give it a new overhaul and experience. The song still holds my heart and feet hostage and I was happy to re-frame this one!

ReStructure Mix Update (12/2/15) “Stay With Me” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – India

ReStructure Mix Update (12/2/15) “Stay With Me” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – India

India is an electronic dance project from disco producer Jacques Morali – who also gave us Village People, The Ritchie Family, Dennis Parker, The Lovers, Patrick Juvet and Phylicia Allen during climb and peak of disco music. This stripped down production is a great transition for Morali whose past work always featured arrangements layered with strings, horns and rhythm sections. The 80s brought a new challenge since major labors no longer supplied the budget for such work. India always reminded me of the 80s rock edge scene with a Steve Perry vocal and pulsating aerobics rhythm. It does however have the sweetness of the disco feel and the wonderful light rock edge with added synthesizers work very well.

I have taken the 12” long version (originally mixed by Mr. Steve Thompson) and created a lengthier and flowing ReStructure Mix using more of the bridge and breaks as a piece of the new arrangement. It has a few new surprises and those filled in spots that bring the fantasy of disco music alive again.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/29/15) “Disco Connection” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Isaac Hayes

ReStructure Mix Update (11/29/15) “Disco Connection” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Isaac Hayes

The Isaac Hayes Movement is a session produced, arranged and engineered by Isaac Hayes. The second album titled “Disco Connection” contained the title track - one of the mid-70s exciting tracks that were more of an underground sensation. “Disco Connection” follows the bass line that disco music endured throughout the late seventies along with dramatic sweeping strings which also became one of hardcore disco’s elements. It is quite a mover and still brings back that period of experimental dance music which shifted from soul to disco.

I have taken the album version of “Disco Connection” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix by request of Pivaral Jorge of Facebook. I have stripped down the track and used some of the elements that click the most. More of the excitement and a few more breakdowns to give the body a break from that “disco connection”.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Pivaral Jorge – thanks for keeping disco music alive and your dedication to making it a daily dose.

“The Gossip Song” by Lipps Inc. – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“The Gossip Song” by Lipps Inc. – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Lipps Inc. is the disco project from producer Steven Greenberg who gave us the icon “Funkytown” in 1979. The group’s second album from 1980 was another success on dance floors with their cover version of Ace’s “How Long” and the second single “The Gossip Song”. The vocals of Cynthia Johnson upfront there is a strong characteristic among Lipps Inc. early releases. This track is a play on the talk that occurs behind the scenes with little fact. A catchy chorus rings out as powerful as Cynthia style has a nice Broadway-like quality.

I have taken the 1985 television movie “Malice In Wonderland” starring Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Alexander as Hollywood gossip columnists Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons. The duo and their power to control the careers of celebrities eventually studio executives are given a stage here. More of an emphasis on the theme of the song and the fun gossip fare of the two columnists and their personal stories.

The film was directed by Gus Trikonis

ReStructure Mix Update (11/27/15) “Baby Love, Sweet Sweet Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Wilton Place Street Band

ReStructure Mix Update (11/27/15) “Baby Love, Sweet Sweet Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Wilton Place Street Band
Wilton Place Street Band is a disco project from 1976 from producer Trevor Lawrence. The first single from Wilton Place Street Band created a stir on radio and discotheques with a funky-disco arrangement of “I Love Lucy Theme” – appropriately titled, “Disco Lucy”. It was one of the big novelty tracks of that year. “Baby Love, Sweet Sweet Love” is the follow up single in 1977 which plays out in the “Disco Lucy” arrangement with a romantic affair taking stage. One of the great productions which defines the evolution of disco music from the early 70’s to the mid and later late 70’s the disco boom.

I have taken the original 12” version of “Baby Love, Sweet Sweet Love” and created a ReStructure Mix adding a new disco-techno intro into the lush strings, horns and funky guitars. More of the track is exposed in some minor looping to create some new breaks to pick up on the groove and then more of the disco sugar.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/26/15) “Girl In The 80s” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – France Joli

ReStructure Mix Update (11/26/15) “Girl In The 80s” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – France Joli

France Joli released her fourth album in 1983 “Attitude” – produced by Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder. It was a new transition from the disco of the late 70s and the funk feel of her “Now!” of the previous year. A new pop age of dance music was taking Moroder’s keyboards and sequencers into a pulsating aerobics sound. “Girl In The 80’s” is the first single which follows the formula of many of the 80’s anthem like dance songs. France plays well in the song with her yearning vocals and ability to make her tracks sweet and alluring. The production plays out Moroder’s 80s sound and gives a simple display of the time period.

I have taken the 12” remixed by Brian Reeves and reworked a lengthier version of “Girl In The 80’s” and segued more of the intro effects throughout the ReStructure Mix. A simple reworking of the energy and theme. France completes more of her verses here in a new way.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/24/15) “Helping Myself” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kendra

ReStructure Mix Update (11/24/15) “Helping Myself” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kendra

Kendra is a studio session from Canadian disco producer, Jerry Cucuzzella whose work also includes projects by Suzy Q. Sandy Steele, Sweet Brandy and Plastic Surprise. The early 80s electronic disco sound was the continuation of those dance floors that could not get their feel of the rolling sequencers and the nightlife themes to move to. “Helping Myself” was released in 1983 as a single and shared a bit of success with the disc jockeys that were programming the Canadian disco genre. It was later included on the 12” cover of Suzi Lane’s “Harmony” by Suzy Q in 1985.

This ReStructure Mix of “Helping Myself” takes pieces from both the original 12” vocal and instrumental. I have delayed the intro with more of the fast and robotic keyboards and reset some of the chorus into a new arrangement and a more flowing version. It was a favorite of mine with a great “whistle” effect riff that always caught my attention, as well as my packed dance floor.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/14/15) “Hold Tight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vicki Sue Robinson

ReStructure Mix Update (11/14/15) “Hold Tight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vicki Sue Robinson

Vicki Sue Robinson’s third album “Half and Half” from 1978 contained the dance track, “Hold Tight” - a follow up single from her big 1976 classic, “Turn The Beat Around”. Vicki had already set a stage in clubs for herself as a voice which would deliver the promise of a great dance experience. “Hold Tight” brought the layer of disco music alive with a heavy dose of percussion and swirling disco strings.

I have taken the 12” inch version of “Hold Tight” to work on this ReStructure Mix with a new intro and reassembling the arrangement. It plays out with more of the softness from the lush string breaks. The original production gives the raw feel of the club scene with many breakdowns and this period was the last before electronic era. A great piece of work and one which I still cannot let go once started.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/13/15) “Let You Come Into My Life” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Carol Douglas

ReStructure Mix Update (11/13/15) “Let You Come Into My Life” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Carol Douglas
Carol Douglas began a career in disco music in 1975 with her classic hit, “Doctor’s Orders” from “The Carol Douglas Album”. Following this club favorite in a time when dance floors were audiences and direction of pop music, her sound was never short of the soulful sweetness which gave disco music songs that still bring the uplifting and simple message of love. “Let You Come Into My Life” is a track from Carol’s 1978 project “Burnin’” - produced by Ed O’Loughlin and John Davis and also conducted and arranged by Michael Zager. It was always one of my favorite dance numbers from the album since it speaks out with a melodic tone of a love gone wrong and speaks as an after though of lessons learned in love. A bit scorn but very uplifting.

I have taken the extended album version of “Let You Come Into My Life” and have created a ReStructure Mix pulling the beautiful disco and soul arrangement to a new stage. I have taken instrumental breaks and scattered them with new breaks among Carol’s beautiful confession. The lengthier version gives way to more rearranging of the original created by three of disco music most incredible talents: Carol Douglas, Eddie O’Loughlin, John Davis and Michael Zager.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/6/15) “Let’s Make Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madleen Kane

ReStructure Mix Update (11/6/15) “Let’s Make Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madleen Kane

Madleen Kane is one of the most exciting bodies of the disco sound. Her music personifies a sensual and alluring edge and creates an ethereal experience. Her debut album “Rough Diamond” from 1978 exploded on dance floors everywhere and filled dance floors with a driving disco groove and Madleen’s unique sexy approach. One which captured my heart and also turntables during her rein throughout the late 70s and 80s. “Let’s Make Love” is a track from the project which pours our Madleen’s heart to a lover whom she gives her heart freely. This one was always a favorite of mine and plays out with the funky guitars, beat and those sweeping strings which made disco its own in the mid-70s.

I have taken the album version of “Let’s Make Love” and have worked a ReStructure Mix to take this invitation from Madleen deeper and also more playful with the help of the sex symbol of film in a cameo. This remix plays with the breaks and exceptional horns a bit more as well as adds a few new breaks. A great new fun way to lure your feet back into Madleen’s magic.

Dedicated to Ms. Madleen Kane – thank you for being as wonderful as I always imagined you would be.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/5/15) “Never Gonna Give You Up” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rick Astley

ReStructure Mix Update (11/5/15) “Never Gonna Give You Up” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rick Astley

Rick Astley is a pop-singer from the mid-80s produced by the hit machine, Stock, Aitken and Waterman. His first single “Never Gonna Give You Up” solidified the singer as the period’s big dance floor favorites as well as a voice that worked the formula of the producers like a glove in hand. It was dance music as exciting as it gets. The hit single was instantly shadowed by several tracks from the first album, “Whenever You Need Somebody” which gave dance floors a non-stop parade of great hits.

I have taken the “Cake Mix” and “Instrumental” from the original promo 12” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to mark this hit in a new way. A new use of the chorus and those pure sounding synthesized bass of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. It is a salute to this sound and also a continuance of my own love for this artist and the nights of crowded dance floors and happy faces.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/4/15) “Que Sera Mi Vida (If You Should Go)” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gibson Brothers

ReStructure Mix Update (11/4/15) “Que Sera Mi Vida (If You Should Go)” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gibson Brothers

Gibson Brothers are Alex, Chris and Patrick Gibson a Latin disco group formed in France. Their big hit “Que Sera Mi Vida (If You Should Go)” is a disco classic celebrated as one of the most uplifting and genuine disco sounds of the late 70s. It has truly survived not only the test of time with the energy and rhythms of disco music, but it also has their unique vocals which make the experience lasting and worthwhile.

I have taken the 12” disco version onto the ReStructure Mix sound for another rekindle of this disco magic. I have taken parts of the wonderful original and have given it a new spin. A whole new arrangement moves this one even more than intended. There is plenty of looping to give that lasting essence on some of those fantastic hooks.

Dedicated to all of the fans of disco music who not only groove to it – but more importantly ‘love it’!

ReStructure Mix Update (11/3/15) “Upside Down” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Coo Coo

ReStructure Mix Update (11/3/15) “Upside Down” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Coo Coo

Coo Coo is an Italian high energy disco project from Max Coo and Steve Coo – produced by Mauro Farina, Guiliano Crivellente and Florian Fadinger. An uplifting and happy sound that exceeded the late 80s into a few new genres of dance music all focusing on a lighter edge of disco music. “Upside Down” is their first single from 1988 which is a stomping good time with some light fare and a rolling synthesizer pulsating energy and a happy refrain. One of my favorite periods during the house music boom as it helped to keep a lighter side of dance floors alive.

I have taken the 12” “Full Power D.J. Mix” and pieces of the “M.Y.O.M. Version” into the ReStructure Mix arena and created a new version to bring back the joyful sound of Italian high energy. There are some new breaks and looping effects to make a dance moment last longer and some accentuated percussion to bring the track again some showcase.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/25/15) “Hot Jungle” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Slip

ReStructure Mix Update (10/25/15) “Hot Jungle” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Slip

Slip is a disco project from German producer Tess (Fancy, Timerider) from 1983 whose memorable tracks were covers of disco classics “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and “Harmony” – their single “Hot Jungle” was always a favorite of mine. It is a simple electronic piece that uses a simple chorus riff surrounded by keyboard takes. It has the emphasis on the sexy cover and theme of woman’s apparel piece, ‘slip’.

I have taken the piece “Hot Jungle” from the “The Slip EP” and created a new ReStructure Mix to celebrate the high energy period of disco history and also the great Manfred Alois Segieth (Fancy) and his wonderful contribution to disco and Italo-disco music.

“Erotic Soul” by Larry Page Orchestra – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Erotic Soul” by Larry Page Orchestra – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Larry Page Orchestra is a disco project from Larry Page who a former pop singer and record producer from England of the late 50s and 60s who made the transition to disco in the late seventies “Erotic Soul” is the album from 1977 and along with Chris Blackwell (Max Berlin, Tschai Prender)created a lounge-feel disco sound. I have always admired the beautiful strings in the title track, “Erotic Soul” as well as the pounding drums and percussion.

I have created a Disco Video Mix using scenes from the 1954 adventure film, “Elephant Walk” starring Elizabeth Taylor and Dana Andrews. The story of a herd of angry elephants who wreak havoc on a tea plantation in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) for blocking their migrating path. The beauty of Elizabeth Taylor is the main force here along with the care and respect for all animals on this planet.

“Erotic Soul” works as a new disco theme replacing the classic, “Baby Elephant Walk” by Henry Mancini.

“Glide” by Musique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Glide” by Musique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Musique is a disco group from Patrick Adams and Christine Wiltshire with all of what disco music was made of during the mid and late 70s. Much of the productions were roaring with a Barry White-esque orchestral feel as well as a funk edge with the stomping disco beat on other tracks. This is a project which filled all of the needs of dance floors around the world for its time. Today the sound is classic among followers and many tracks remain fresh and exuberant as the day they were recorded. “Glide” is from the “Musique II” album released in 1979 and is one of the four favorites of mine from the album. It has the feel of a rush of ecstasy and the graceful sound of a symphony. Along with Christine Wiltshire on vocals the sound is my choice.

I have taken the song in a Disco Video Mix to not only salute Mr. Patrick Adams and Ms. Christine Wiltshire – but also keep this beautiful music alive.  The 1945 film “It’s A Pleasure” starring ice skating Princess Sonja Henie is the background for this melody and works along the theme of not only disco’s lilting sound – but the wonderful escape and freedom it creates.

“Tubular Bells” by Champs Boys Orchestra – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Tubular Bells” by Champs Boys Orchestra – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Champs Boys Orchestra is a disco project from produced Patrick Boceno who also gave us C.D. Band (“HooDoo VooDoo”. His 1976 single “Tubular Bells” is a clever mash-up of Mike Oldfield’s classic theme from the horror film “The Exorcist from 1973 and disco’s own “Love To Love You Baby” by Donna Summer from 1975 – a nice use of the bass guitar track and Oldfield’s haunting instrumental. One of the early disco mash-ups which became an underground classic during the late 70s and early 80s.

I have taken Champs’ Boys Orchestra and created an appropriate Disco Video Mix using scenes from the 1974 Turkish remake of “The Exorcist” and worked both covers into a quick glance at second take on some of the most horrifying scenes from the original William Peter Blatty/William Friedkin masterpiece.

“Slice Me Nice” by Fancy – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Slice Me Nice” by Fancy – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Fancy (Manfred Alois Segieth)is a German disco singer who brought us many familiar 80s disco projects as well as his own solo work with producer Anthony Monn. “Slice Me Nice” is from his first album from 1985 “Get Your Kicks” – a rolling electronic piece that has a nice vocal hook as well as a mystique within the theme. It is one of the well-known high energy pieces from the mid-80s and a favorite of mine from Fancy’s huge repertoire.

I have taken “Slice Me Nice” into a Disco Video Mix for a special Halloween edition “A Horrifying Disco Video Mix A-Day!” 2015. I have blended some disturbing scenes from the 2004 psychological horror film, “Saw” – which I never did watch but have heard of the horrible theme which kept me from it – but for this Disco Video Mix and ventured onto scenes for the theme “slice” and “saw” seemed quite playful. It took me quite some time to complete this since I could not see the clips very long – the blood and gore flicks were fun as a teenager but are like a roller coaster ride now in my mind set. Ewwww!

ReStructure Mix Update (10/19/15) “Don’t Wanna Lose You” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madleen Kane

ReStructure Mix Update (10/19/15) “Don’t Wanna Lose You” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madleen Kane

Madleen Kane (Madleen Frings) is one of disco music’s true originals. From the start of her career in club music in 1978 with “Rough Diamond” a persona of a new disco model was born. Her breathy and appropriate vocals are the sound which “people fall in love to in discotheques” – as Madleen once said herself in an interview. Many of her fans hold her dear to their hearts and souls as her music and talent has never failed to bring the true feeling of what disco music is all about: freedom and savvy.

I have taken the title track to the album “Don’t Wanna Lose You” from 19881 produced by Giorgio Moroder which was another big thrill for disco and dance fans everywhere. The piece always reminded me of a love song with a light country feel and of course Madleen wonderful vocals. I have created a new ReStructure Mix to bring this one back into the spotlight. The album version was the only mix available and a fade in intro made it difficult to spin unless it began a set. This ReStructure Mix gives a new riff driven version with more of Madleen! Who could want more?

ReStructure Mix Update (10/18/15) "Summer Breeze" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Baiser

ReStructure Mix Update (10/18/15) "Summer Breeze" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Baiser

Baiser is a disco project from producer Francois L'Herbier - who also worked on the follow up album from Voggue ("Love Buzz"). "Summer Breeze" is the single released in 1983 which is one of the most beautiful pieces from this year. It is a love affair starting in the summer sun and hoping for a promise of lasting emotion. A favorite among many connoisseurs of early morning music or a blend of electronic dance with a touch of contemporary jazz fusion. This piece also contains a lovely vocal from an uncredited studio singer which brings the song to another great level.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental into the ReStructure Mix realm to give the song a more underground feel and break up some of the wonderful keyboard and percussion. It was nice time spent also breaking the vocal into pieces and placing them into another romantic gesture for a whole new experience.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/16/15) “I Feel Love” (The Live Version) – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Donna Summer

ReStructure Mix Update (10/16/15) “I Feel Love” (The Live Version) – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Donna Summer

Donna Summer released “Live and More” at the height of her career and also the highest raging flames of disco nightlife. The 1978 release gave us a “live” performance of Donna at the Universal Amphitheatre on stage with her greatest hit up to this point. “I Feel Love” featured a dynamite live arrangement – and Donna purring those sensual chants over and over at her best. The three sided “live” recording is probably the best of any artist – Donna at her best.

I have taken the “live” track of “I Feel Love” from the “Live and More” double album to recreate a new ReStructure Mix that plays out the energy and excitement of the song and break it down in a new way. It is a tribute to the lady who never left me disappointed as a teenager being “shut out” and too young to enter discotheques in the mid-70s – but finding my imagination and love for Donna’s music and voice – all alone in my room with headphones!

ReStructure Mix Update (10/16/15) “Taste Of Bitter Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gladys Knight & The Pips

ReStructure Mix Update (10/16/15) “Taste Of Bitter Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gladys Knight & The Pips
Gladys Knight and The Pips released their project “About Love” in 1980 – produced by Nikolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Another peak for Gladys, The Pips and Ashford and Simpson it focuses on the four letter word and emotions brought to a soulful level. “Taste Of Bitter Love” is a mid-tempo dance track that was one of the biggest in my club and is celebrated here with a new energy and arrangement. It is one of those moments again where Gladys shines wonderfully and brings out the feelings that make love and heartbreak one of humanities great rewards and lessons.

I have taken the album version onto the ReStructure Mix chopping block and present this gentle giant with a new intro and some breaks that drop in and out for energy. It is a great piece of work with that mixture of soul, disco and rhythm and blues.

“Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Bronski Beat is a synth-pop dance band whose 1984 album “Age Of Consent” played a huge part of the electronic dance music streak of the time. Members Jimmy Somerville, Steve Bronski and Larry Steinbachek worked an array of original and cover songs by Donna Summer and George and Ira Gershwin. This was quite a show and display of a new form of 80s dance music discovery. “Smalltown Boy” is the chart hit which is one of the most memorable and emotionally charged pieces thanks to the moody music and Somerville’s incredible vocal. It became one of the most successful for the band and a starting point for careers for the band and Somerville.

I have created a Disco Video Mix for “Smalltown Boy” with a new twist using scenes from 1978 low-budget sci-fi flick “Laserblast” starring Kim Milford – tying in a bit of revenge as this unhappy teenager who discovers an alien laser cannon and wreaks havoc on those who have taunted him. It is a fantasy edge and gives the disco track another moody side.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/7/15) “That Special Magic” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – B.B. and Band

ReStructure Mix Update (10/7/15) “That Special Magic” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – B.B. and Band

B.B. and Band is an Italian disco project from Mario Boncaldo and Tony Carrasco- a duo responsible for recordings by Klein & M.B.O., Plastic Mode, and M.T.L. Project. A new breed of disco energy fused in the early 80s based on electronics and disco/street beats. Much of the work here is in the early transition of disco from the late 70s emerging again in a format which focuses on happy and uplifting feel of Italo-disco and the heavy keyboard and sequencer instrumentals brought to life by artists like Moroder and Cerrone. A new Euro-disco style in a simple arrangement and style. “That Special Magic” is from the 1982 album “Wee Thee People” which was a big move for Italian disco music. This one is like an anthem for a challenged love affair. It plays out well with the child-like choruses building onto the powerhouse vocals of the group. Always one that I would break in during early evenings to get the floor moving.

I have taken the album version and created a ReStructure Mix which makes use of the pounding pianos, castanets, drum rolls and rolling synths. A slight move on the original arrangement adding only a few more layered areas to smooth out and also excite the song.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/6/15) “You Got My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Front Page

ReStructure Mix Update (10/6/15) “You Got My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Front Page

Front Page is a disco project from producers Burt Szerlip, Cory Robbins and Rick Tell. The spotlight on this track is the vocals from Sharon Redd – although the production on this monster classic is flawless and stands as an outline for disco perfection. A creative blend of soaring disco strings, heavy percussion and funky guitars. “You Got My Love” is the flip-side to the big nugget, “Love Insurance” – however it is not modest as a disco powerhouse. The performance by Sharon Redd gives this yearning track so much power and emotion it brings tears to dancers and listeners. One of my all-time favorite Top10 disco 12” singles and one which should always be compared to.

I have taken the 12” version (mixed by Mr. Rick Gianatos) and worked a new ReStructure Mix to pay homage to Ms. Redd and also this celebrated disco classic. The original arrangement is reedited and played out with some new looping and layering of those fabulous guitar tracks and infectious percussion.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/5/15) “When I Think Of You” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Janet Jackson

ReStructure Mix Update (10/5/15) “When I Think Of You” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson began her solo recording career in 1982 with her self-titled album and hits, “Young Love” and “Come Give You Love To Me”. A progression of sound and production brought her to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis – a duo whose work with girl band Klymaxx set their creativity and electronic funk to work. “When I Think Of You” from Janet’s 1986 album “Control” and introduced Janet in a whole new light. An electronic beat-street driven sound that took over the mid and late 80s on dance floors and mainstream pop influence. The piece has a sweetness and charm which helped to make it a lasting hit for Janet and also made dance floors jump with excitement.

I have taken the 12” “Dance Remix”, “Extra Beats” and “Dub/A Capella) to create a ReStructure Mix which plays more on a few riffs that lay the song out for a new dance floor or pair of headphones. It works with chop-edits and looping to give the lasting energy another boost. A fun piece of remix pleasure for those who can’t get enough of Janet Jackson or dance music history!

ReStructure Mix Update (10/3/15) “Billie Jean” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Michael Jackson

ReStructure Mix Update (10/3/15) “Billie Jean” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s album “Thriller” from 1982 is one of the moments in history where the excitement of music brought a period to life. It is truly one of the recordings which make time seem endless when you feel the energy and vibe which lasts even today. “Billie Jean” is an iconic piece from the project which gave Michael his moment to not only effect dance floors – but hearts and minds. It is one song that can be peeled apart and dissected but never misunderstood.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to recreate a ReStructure Mix with lots of play and direction. There is a dub feel with more of the sounds and resonance of the original to bring a new experience upfront. I can remember the energy and motivation from dance floors and of course the endless nights extending this monster – here it is in new form.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/2/15) “Moskow Diskow” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Telex

ReStructure Mix Update (10/2/15) “Moskow Diskow” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Telex

Telex is Dan Lacksman, Marc Moulin and Michel Moers – an electronic dance band from the late 80s with an alternative edge and theme properties. “Moskow Diskow” is from their 1979 album “Looking For Saint Tropez” and is one of the dance floor pieces that followed in the vein of bands like M (“Pop Muzak” ). It was a breath of a subtle nu-wave sound using the disco beat and focus – dancing. “Moscow Diskow” was a favorite for many clubs who had innovative jocks that could weave this pulsating sound into the changing sound of disco in the late 70s.

I have taken the original 12” version and recreated a new ReStructure Mix adding a few familiar elements (a la Moroder) to the new journey. This one breaks down the riffs into a spaced out feeling that many afterhours’ clubs would have appreciated. It bears the rumbling bass and of the original and the infectious chorus that makes this one hard to resist!

ReStructure Mix Update (10/1/15) “Lucky Tonight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sarah Dash

ReStructure Mix Update (10/1/15) “Lucky Tonight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sarah Dash

Sarah Dash made “Sinner Man” from 1978 a track which pounded dance floors into a new diva-esque style of disco music with her incredibly powerful vocals. Her affiliation with Pattie Labelle and The Blue Belles (also known as LaBelle) left a mark which gave us an opportunity to feel more than soul – a unique style. “Lucky Tonight” is a piece from her recordings with Patrick Cowley’s label Megatone Records in San Francisco –a label which revived disco music again in the early 80s. The electronic high energy piece was always a favorite of mine and made my dance floors go wild!

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to recreate a new movement for Sarah’s vocals and Cowley’s innovative and unique keyboard sound. This one builds a few times to leave dancers holding on to the edge of their dance floor. I have not only extended pieces of the instrumental but added a few new ad-lib breaks for the vocal. A special guest appearance is added by Jessica Lange from 1976’s adventure film, “King Kong” – good luck!

ReStructure Mix Update (9/29/15) “He’s Just A Runaway” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sister Sledge

ReStructure Mix Update (9/29/15) “He’s Just A Runaway” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sister Sledge

Sister Sledge released their 1981 album “All American Girls” which featured the big title anthem – produced by Naratha Michael Walden. A new era and sound for the ladies who made dance floors unite in the late 70s with “We Are Family”. The high energy pick from the project was “He’s Just A Runaway” which was released as a 12” single with an alternate remix in a reggae style dedicated to Bob Marley. It was minus the energy of the original and lacked the ricochet sound of the album track. One of the favorites of the fans of the Dames of Sledge who work their songs with a nice flair.

I have taken the short album version and recreated a high energy scenario with this ReStructure Mix and keeping the energy moving along with some looping and flash-edits that bring the song to life again in its original form. It was always fun to extend it for my crowd with two vinyl copies however this new version adds some tricky effects that make it worthwhile to buckle in a dance it all over again!

ReStructure Mix Update (9/28/15) “Get Out Your Handkerchief” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ashford and Simpson

ReStructure Mix Update (9/28/15) “Get Out Your Handkerchief” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ashford and Simpson

Ashford and Simpson are truly a gift to soul, R&B and disco music. Their contributions are some of the anthems which make music a special place – always full of love and emotion. Their 1980 album “A Musical Affair” contained the single “Get Out Your Handkerchief” which was a track which always made it on my early morning or early evening playlists. A song telling the heartache of a love gone wrong and the after math of keeping a sane view on what has passed. It is one of my favorites of the masterful duo.

I have taken the album version to create this ReStructure Mix which plays with the looping choruses and ad-libbed verses to give this a whole new extended version a bang. It adds some percussion to beef up the moody feel of the song and a new ‘storm’ of energy.

“Love Fire” by Syreeta – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Love Fire” by Syreeta – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Syreeta is a soul vocalist known throughout the 70s for wonderful ballads and also as former wife to Stevie Wonder. Her voice has always brought to music a lovely instrumental of classical soul. “Love Fire” is a track written by Bob Esty and Michelle Aller – and from her 1980 album “Syreeta”. This beautiful piece of dance music is produced, arranged and conducted by Bob Esty. It has always been one of my favorite songs and has an incredible lasting melody.

I have created a Disco Video Mix along with “Love Fire” and an appropriate 1978 romantic drama, “Ice Castles” starring Lynn-Holly Johnson and Robby Benson – the story of a figure skater whose rise and fall to stardom is saved by the love of her boyfriend after an accident leaves her blind. The finale leaves us feeling hope and love as she is taken again to her dreams with both her talent and love.

This Disco Video Mix is dedicated to the master of disco production and his amazing talent – Mr. Bob Esty

“Fashion” by The New York Models – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Fashion” by The New York Models – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
The New York Models are a concept disco group from Bobby Orlando who released three high energy disco singles in the mi-80s. Their first single “Fashion” from 1984 borrows the quick flash chorus which is familiar with Orlando’s “Passion” by The Flirts. It is however the style of high energy in the 80s which quickly took dance floors back into a dancing frenzy. It is one of the femme melodic productions of the time with the pulsating bass and jittery keyboards.

I have taken “Fashion” into the Disco Video Mix realm along with scenes from the 2006 comedy-drama, “The Devil Wears Prada” starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway – for obvious reasons. The story of a college graduate who lands a demanding high-energy job as co-assistant to a fashion magazine editor. Many of the scenes play out in synch with the drama of the song’s lyrics as well as the films main characters obstacles and finale resolution.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/22/15) “Come Inside My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bonnie Oliver

ReStructure Mix Update (9/22/15) “Come Inside My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bonnie Oliver
Bonnie Oliver is a disco artist who released an underground disco track titled “Come Inside My Love” in 1979 – produced by Wiley Hicks who also produced Ednah Holt and Starluv’s “People Come Dance” and “Ain’t Got Time” by Holt ’45. This piece of hardcore and psychedelic disco is one of the choices for many after-hours spots where the dancers are pulled deep into the mix and trance-like energy of disco. It has always been one of my favorite arenas of hardcore dance music.

I have taken the original 12” vocal and instrumental to walk down a ReStructure Mix path with a lengthy piece of funky guitar breaks and weaving synthesizer breaks. The original EQ is bit flat which differs from both original recordings so I decided to recreate an airy Patrick Cowley-ish feel with the rework. It is the master road to ecstasy for those special dance floor moments and it could have continued on for a longer adventure – but here it is!

ReStructure Mix Update (9/21/15) “Breakaway” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

ReStructure Mix Update (9/21/15) “Breakaway” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

First Choice is female ensembles who brought the Philly dance sound alive with the soulful and feel of the garage identity which eventually became the house sound of the 80s and 90s. A funk fest of vocals in a disco aura created by Annette Guest, Debbie Martin, Rochelle Fleming, Ursula Herring and Wardell Piper. Their finale album from 1980 contained the title track, “Breakaway” which continued the spirit of that sound of Philadelphia and magic of disco polish. Produced by Norman Harris and Ron Tyson.

I have taken the album version of “Breakaway” and have given it the ReStructure Mix image with more of the guitar pieces and funky bass bounce – adding some new beats and breaks. It is a bit extended with some familiar samples of these ladies who make the night a great place to be!

“New York Is My Kind Of Town” by Metropolis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“New York Is My Kind Of Town” by Metropolis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Metropolis is a disco project from 1978 on the classic label Salsoul Records and was produced by Thor Baldursson and Tom Moulton. The recording also featured vocals by The Sweethearts of Sigma – Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson and Evette Benton. This New York themed project was the source of the big disco single “I Love New York” which is still a classic among discophiles. I have taken the third hit from the project titled “New York Is My Kind Of Town” and created a Disco Video Mix to lament the Broadway-like energy and sound of 70s disco.

Scenes from the 1955 musical film, “Guys and Dolls” starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine are used to bring this chorus of celebration and excitement. More of the dance sequences are the feat of this Disco Video Mix and again the great work of Mr. Tom Moulton.

“Bad Love” by Cher – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Bad Love” by Cher – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Cher released several disco tracks during 1979 including the Bob Esty production and classic, “Take Me Home”. Featured on the soundtrack to “Foxes” in 1980 is “Bad Love” produced by Giorgio Moroder and co-written with Cher. The track has the Moroder electronic feel which he brought to disco and then pop dance music of the 80s. The theme of “Bad Love” is fitting for the films theme where a group of teens find out the hard way about love, life and heartbreak on the streets.

I have paired the track with a rare film by Cher from 1969 titled “Chasity” produced by Sonny Bono about a runaway drifter who finds pain and a tough lesson in dealing with an abusive childhood. The film has a dark edge and is only placed here for a photoplay of Cher’s unique look and of course the period of 60’s love child exploration. It is however a great montage to experience that Cher and Moroder teaming with a touch of disco magic!

ReStructure Mix Update (9/18/15) “Fever” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madleen Kane

ReStructure Mix Update (9/18/15) “Fever” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madleen Kane

Madleen Kane is one of disco music’s lead stars and outline for its aura. A former Elite fashion model and in 1978 a disco sensation with her project “Rough Diamond” that not only gave her a symbolic label for her beauty but also music which was the complete disco genre. In this project she also covers the standard, “Fever” in her own unique blend of sensual vocals and alluring stage presence. It is one of the most exciting moments in disco history. The production by Jean-Claude Friederich borrows several key disco players including Thor Baldursson and Juergen Koppers.

I have taken the album version of “Fever” and have worked this ReStructure Mix to pay homage to Ms. Kane and also display a new edit for the wonderful disco production and thrill of its bass, strings and lovely vocals igniting excitement. A few new elements I have added are an intro and also have broken down the original to take a new ride on a new set of disco tracks.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Ms. Madleen Kane and thanks for all she has given to the fantasy and love of disco music. It is head on and will last as long as the mirror ball continues to spin.

“Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” by Sounds Of Inner City – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” by Sounds Of Inner City – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Sounds Of Inner City is an early disco project from 1976 produced, arranged and conducted by the late and incredible, Vince Montana, Jr. A dance novelty celebrating the television soap opera parody, “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” – a series way ahead of its time. The single on the classic West End Records sound much like a piece that may be The Salsoul Orchestra. Considered an underground classic this one works well with the lush disco strings and funky bass – the vital sound of disco music.

This Disco Video Mix grabs scenes from the Norman Lear camp series that stars Louise Lasser as our confused and lovable heroine who always seems to find time for drama between house cleaning. It is self-explanatory and in short in great fun.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/15/15) “Stargazing” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Earlene Bentley featuring Sylvester

ReStructure Mix Update (9/15/15) “Stargazing” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Earlene Bentley featuring Sylvester
Earlene Bentley is a disco/high energy star from the early 80s who took dance floors hostage with her big 1983 hit, “The Boys Come To Town”. Her powerful vocal performances bring to mind a sultry standard singer with a level for moving feet and floor boards when roaring. One of my favorite and slightly camp-like approaches which always makes the males who love the divas stand to attention. “Stargazing” is a monstrous single from 1984 which also features disco star, Sylvester – produced by Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench. Another one of their big dance hits that stand out with these two powerhouse singers belting out their love and energy!

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to work a ReStructure Mix which takes more time to introduce the exploding sound of “Stargazing” and also add a few elements from each of our stars past moments. This is a fun track that should bring back that 80s high energy feel!

ReStructure Mix Update (9/14/15) “I Feel Love”/”Love To Love You Baby” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bronski Beat with Marc Almond

ReStructure Mix Update (9/14/15) “I Feel Love”/”Love To Love You Baby” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bronski Beat with Marc Almond

Bronski Beat is Jimmy Sommerville, Steve Bronski and Larry Steinbachek. Their 1984 album “The Age of Consent” paved another path to a new electronic sound for dance floors with a full orchestral feel and the powerful falsetto vocal of Sommerville creating a haunting landscape. Their cover of Donna Summer’s two disco classics, “I Feel Love” and “Love To Love You Baby” is one of the major edges of 80s dance music in form with the disco resonance of the 70s/ A new era of dance music was formulated here and followed according with the original concept of this genius.

I have taken the 12” version of “I Feel Love”/”Love To Love You Baby” both the “Cake Mix” and “Fruit Mix” and created a new ReStructure Mix focusing more on the rolling electronic instrumental with pieces of the fabulous vocals molded around the arrangement. It is an alternative to the full on 12” vocal versions and works more as a supplement for those lovers of Donna and Giorgio Moroder original masterpiece!

ReStructure Mix Update (9/14/15) “Heaven On The 7th Floor” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Paul Nicholas

ReStructure Mix Update (9/14/15) “Heaven On The 7th Floor” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Paul Nicholas
Paul Nicholas is an English actor, singer and songwriter who released his first album on RSO Records in 1977 which featured the pop single, “Heaven On The 7th Floor”. This was a radio hit in the boogie pick during a period where disco music began to influence pop artists and producers. The track was written by Dominic Bugatti and Frank Musker (“Woman In Love” by The Three Degrees, “Ain’t No Smoke Without Fire” by Eddie Kendricks). It became a disco classic since the feel of the song followed the formula of a fun and uplifting ditty.

I have taken the short album version to recreate a ReStructure Mix with a longer intro and song new breaks. Along with some added percussion in areas which did not lack the sound – but played along with the fluent energy of the song. It is one that reminds me of FM radio Saturday night boogie music and plays well with the classic disco followers.

“Pounding With Desire” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Pounding With Desire” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. LaRue and Bob Esty – what else can I say but “hit” and “classic”!

“Pounding With Desire” is from D.C.LaRue’s 1978 project, “Confessions” – a disco journey which covers the dance floor in many shades of rhythm and themes. The second act of side two is where the romance of D.C.’s narrative takes us to a higher understanding of devotion to a lover and then back to life. A favorite listening adventure for me and is still one of the most invigorating disco productions to date.

I have taken the 1956 musical, “Anything Goes” starring Bing Crosby, Donald O’Connor, Jeanmaire and Mitzi Gaynor – using the beauty romances and dance sequences to paint a lovely canvas for D.C. and Bob’s work. The mood is set for the wonderful feeling love brings as it become a realization. Fantastic disco works here along with some great ballet and jazz style musical feet.

“Both Sides Now’ by Viola Wills – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Both Sides Now’ by Viola Wills – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Viola Wills was the answer to the disco spotlight during the late 70s. He huge disco cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “If You Could Read My Mind” was an instant classic and continues to revive that dance hall feeling even today. Her 1986 album “Dare To Dream” featured another fantastic 80’s dance cover of Judy Collins’ 1967 song, “Both Sides Now”. The production by Billy Osborne IV, Mel Simpson and Paul Phillips plays out in the electronic dance field with a lighter feel for Viola’s beautiful and lyrical vocals.

I have taken the 1977 comedy, “Which Way Is Up” and oddly paired it with this optional life awakening theme, but with scenes from Richard’s eyes focusing in the film. The double life being exposed in the end is the side which we find as the finale in both media. It is more of homage to Richard Pryor and his comedic edge which always brought insanity into the light and smiles along the way.
