“Black Widow Woman” by Afro-Cuban Band – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Afro-Cuban Band is a band formed by Michael Zager – their first hit was a
disco cover of Abaco Dream’s “Life and Death in G&A” from 1975.
Following a successful follow up project titled “SpanDisco” in 1977 the
group released a finale album in 1978 titled “Rhythm Of Life”.
“Black Widow Woman” is track from “Rhythm Of Life” and was also released
as a 12” disco single. The mix of Latin and disco elements along with
Zager's fantastic production give this slick and dark piece a nice funky
and cha-cha feel.
I have taken the 1948 MGM musical, “The Kissing Bandit” starring Frank
Sinatra, Kathryn Grayson, Ricardo Montalban and Cyd Charisse and used
some of the wonderful dance sequences as a ploy for this tale of a dark
and mysterious woman. It works as the Technicolor douses the screen over
and over after each kick and spin.
This Disco Video Mix is dedicated to Jussi K. – thank you for the
request that this number be painted with the right color and language!
Enjoy!
The film was directed by Laslo Benedek
