Makers is an electronic/funk and experimental project written and produced by disco pioneer. Boris Midney. His work from the late 70’s took on a whole new sound and identity during the big disco era. His work on projects USA European Connection, Beautiful Bend, Caress, Masquerade, Festival, Companion and Double Discovery have displayed his unique approach to taking the disco beat and stripping each layer of rhythm with European disco flavors accenting his arrangements. Makers are one of his earliest works and there is an early sign of his style with play on both the groove and moody and dreamlike feel. This work from 1972 is placed as Midney’s claim to a greater fame with disco music in 1978 where clubs became exposed to what would be known as “Art Disco”.
I have taken the 7” version of “Don’t Challenge Me” and focused on paying tribute to Midney’s work by dissecting this psychedelics mood into a disco fare. A new drum beat and pattern pound out the early morning sound of this track and some of Midney’s later magic is added to fulfil the dynasty of disco music he has created.
