Isaac Hayes is best known for his 70’s soul classic “Theme from Shaft” from 1971 where he transformed the wah-wah guitar to a standard. His 1979 project during the height of the disco period was his project “Don’t Let Go” where the title track became a disco classic. The project also included his disco cover of the standard “Fever” by Little Willie John from 1958 which became a vehicle for many artists since. Isaac takes the song into his own disco realm and creates several riffs which work this cover including a guitar lick which outlines a cross between funk and disco. The background ensemble rips into this cover with a flare that is definitive. This is another great take on the classic for dance floors with the mirror ball accenting the energy.
I have taken the album version of Isaac Hayes’ “Fever” and re-heated the vital pieces for this ReStructure Mix. Using the guitars for a new source of segues for this new take on Hayes’ formula.
