ReStructure Mix Update (9/30/25): ”On The Radio” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Donna Summer

Donna Summer is one of history's amazing talents. From her “Queen Of Disco” period throughout the last segments of her music she maintained the power her voice needed to continue bringing emotions to us in a special way. “On The Radio” is from her 1979 project “On The Radio - Greatest Hits Volumes I & II” and is one of her signature tracks. The story takes us back to a radio show which brings back a long lost love and another opportunity to believe in love once again. It was produced by Giorgio Moroder and his electric moog touch is throughout these magical recordings. Donna takes the vocals into her arms and makes them hug our hearts with the wonderful sentiment and style she has always projected.

I have taken the long album version and instrumental of “On The Radio” and recalled the magic in a new way in this ReStructure Mix. Using more of Moroder’s instrumental throughout the mix to give this remix a new experience.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/26/25): ”Inside My Heat” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lemon

Lemon is a disco group created by producer Kenny Lehman - who is also credited as arranger and a producer on the first Chic album titled “C’est Chic”. Lemon utilizes the vocal skills of Luther Vandross, David Lasley, Diva Gray and Gordon Grody to the top as this project gives variations of disco tracks. “Inside Of My Heart” brings a big band flair to the production as well as a silent movie edge with the percussion mimicking a Charlie Chaplin scene. The love song is also in the big band edge where a love song fights the feeling long enough where there is no turning away. The piece is one which has some of the ensemble's best harmonies and lead vocals crooning.

I have taken the album version of “Inside My Heart” and added some foundation to the production in this ReStructure Mix. A hard hitting house beat and snap are the pulling vibration from several new breaks and a new approach to a disco production from 1979.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/24/25): ”Stop Don’t Do this To Me” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Phyllis Nelson

Phyllis Nelson is a disco singer who had a huge dance floor hit with her 1980 song, “Don’t Stop The Train” - produced by Yves Dessca. Her project “Move Closer” from 1984 featured the track “Stop Don’t Do This To Me” and gave her another opportunity for a welcome on dance floors. A song about the damaging part of a relationship out in the open and a plea to make it easier to say goodbye. The production once again is Dessca and the intermediate rhythm tracks are interesting as both meet the pain and heartache to the hilt.

I have taken the 12” version of “Stop Don’t Do This To Me” into a new outline and execution for this ReStructure Mix. There are longer segments leading to each verse and a roaring chorus just before we get a break down for an exit.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/22/25): ”Where’d You Get What You Got” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Michele Freeman

Michele Freeman is a disco singer who released her self-titled project in 1979 - produced by Don Ray (“Got To Have Loving”, “Standing In The Rain”). This project is the disco definition of the spotlights and the mirror balls as they progressed to more, more, more. “Where’d You Get What You Got” is the second single from the project which holds interest to discophiles where Don Ray’s arrangement and production come into play. Michele’s frail voice becomes lost in the rolling bass and horns however the sensual delivery is just what the late 70s defined as a disco femme sound. The track has some interesting moments where the energy builds and gives Mr. Ray a spotlight one again.

I have taken the 12” version of “Where’d You Get What You Got” and redefined the edges of this piece for a ReStructure Mix. Using more of the sequencer as the foundation for this new recipe.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/20/25): ”Here’s To You” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Skyy

Skyy is a disco/funk band featuring Anibal "Butch" Sierra, Bonné Dunning Barrino, Bonny Dunning, Delores Dunning Milligan, Denise Dunning Crawford, Gerald Lebon, Larry Greenburg, Randy Muller, Solomon Roberts Jr., Tommy McConnell and Wayne Wilentz. Produced by Randy Muller who was also a member of soul/funk bands B.T. Express and Brass Construction. “Here’s To You” is from their 1980 project titled “Skyport”. A love song with all of the trimmings of the New York funk sound this band and a mellow approach at framing these words. Skyy is known for their grooves and this one follows in their genre. A nice sonnet with some delicious guitar accents.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Here’s To You” and rewired their groove for another ReStructure Mix placement. The bass lines are used again in pieces to create new passages for this funk-funtastique treat.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/10/25): ”Do Your Dance” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rose Royce

Rose Royce is a funk/R&B and disco band who brought the 70’s a nuance of music which helped to bring soul music and the disco sound to many outlets. Best known for their soundtrack to the film “Car Wash” in 1976 produced by Norman Whitfield, this band made a lasting impression in music history. “Do Your Dance” is from their  1977 project titled “In Full Bloom” and is another example of the blend of funk and soul becoming the outline for disco music. The groove for this number is an infectious one and adding a blaring horn section tearing down the walls this move was another genius take from Norman Whitfield. The band consists of Freddie Dunn, Gwen Dickey, Henry Garner, Kenji Brown, Kenny Copeland, Lequeint "Duke" Jobe, Lisa Taylor, Mark Kenoly, Michael Moore, Michael Nash, Ricci Benson, Terral Santiel, Victor Nix and Walter McKinney.

I have taken the 12” version of “Do Your Dance” and re-funked a new edit and arrangement for this ReStructure Mix. I had used the original elements including beats and percussion to reintroduce the song with some new twists and turns.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/8/25): ”Get Down Tonight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – K.C. and The Sunshine Band

K.C. and The Sunshine Band are the spark which helped to ignite the disco fuse in the early 70s. Their big radio hit “Get Down Tonight” from 1975 made many feet and hearts move. It was the beginning of a new movement in clubs and venues where dance became the reason and purpose. Led by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch the group became known as the Miami Sound and helped to pave the way for the success of Henry Stone’s disco legacy T.K. Records. “Get Down Tonight” has a direction which takes a romance to the dance floor every night possible as the disco scene did to couples and dancers everywhere and in its simple yet motivating lyrics it takes on the nightlife in exposing the excitement and meaning.

I have taken the album and instrumental versions of “Get Down Tonight” and worked in some new directions for this ReStructure Mix. Waking the intro into a new fading rhythm build and then taking that energy into a few new breakdowns.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/6/25): ”Why Can’t You See” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Precious

Precious is a breakbeat piece with trance-like echoes throughout the arrangement. The drum tracks take on a beating in parts of this nice number and make this one worthwhile as it takes on several energy shifts. The production is Nu-Sol Productions and the release was in 2000 making this one a nice warranted techno edged piece. The vocals are direct and almost robotic as this one moves like a hunter through the electric environment. One of the minor hits for me on an off-label and a sound that is unique in itself.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Why Can’t You See” and rewired the drums and vibes again for this ReStructure Mix. There is a longer intro with those killer drum beats pounding out the sensual energy of this track.
