ReStructure Mix Update (11/30/19) “Theme from S.W.A.T.” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rhythm Heritage

Rhythm Heritage is funky/soul and disco ensemble lead by Steve Barri (“Love Pains” by Yvonne Elliman) and Michael Omartian (“Cats Without Claws” project by Donna Summer). Their big 1975 disco hit “Theme from S.W.A.T.” is reminiscent of a time when disco ruled the charts as many movie themes and television show themes were brought on to the dance floor. This one pounds out the composition by Barry De Vorzon in a tambourine shakin’ groove. A big classic and still makes the mirror ball shake!

I have taken the album version of “Theme from S.W.A.T.” and beefed it up for this ReStructure Mix with some conga effects and more of those funky wah-wah guitars. It works over and over again with several new breaks.

REISSUE: “Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Indeep

REISSUE: “Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Indeep Indeep is Beckie Bell, Mike Cleveland, Réjane Magloire and Rose Marie Ramsey – one of the 80s memorable moments with their 1982 old school classic, “Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life”. This electronic funk/disco track is full of riffs and guitar grooves to hypnotize and charm a snake. One of the grooviest pieces of the early 80s with the elements of change which made 80s New York funk work well. I have taken the 12” vocal and “D.J. Delight” tracks to create a ReStructure Mix that continues the story of this lonely girl whose estranged lover has left her a prisoner to the disc jockey and dancing her heartache away. It has many new spots for a hip-moving experience and a new twist for the end of our drama. This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Jenny Moreno – thank you Jenny for your kind words and for listening. Keep on movin’ and groovin’!

REISSUE: "Midas Touch” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Midnight Star

REISSUE: "Midas Touch” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Midnight Star Midnight Star is an r&b and funk band created in the early 80s by The Calloway Brothers (Reggie and Vincent Calloway). Their brand of dance music was the deep driving electronic feel of 80s funk. Many of their tracks dominated the changing style of dance music including the new page of funk which they branded. “Midas Touch” comes from their 1986 album “Headlines” which is to date one of their most electric love-sonic pieces. It is a smooth piece of their soul given in a clever take on the old fable in love sonnets. A big hit for me and a sure old-school classic as it is today. I have taken the 12” vocal, instrumental and vocal dub to re-touch this funk masterpiece with a ReStructure Mix. Giving it a new intro and flow with the verses breaking into parts only to expose more grooves. It is a salute to the ever changing dance sound of the 80s and a band that helped to make it happen.

REISSUE: “It’s Time To Party Now” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ray Parker Jr./Raydio

REISSUE: “It’s Time To Party Now” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ray Parker Jr./Raydio Ray Parker Jr. is a producer, musician and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan whose work in the 70s dance arena included Love Unlimited Orchestra. His blend of funk, disco and pop is the sound which helped the early 80s to appreciate a groove and slick arrangements he created. His four albums with Raydio from the late 70s are a funk venture with the groove which helped to move a new era of electronic dance music to life in the early 80s. “It’s Time To Party Now” is from the album “Two Places At The Same Time” and became one of the anthems of disco-funk. I have taken the album version of “It’s Time To Party Now” is taken into the ReStructure Mix arena and chopped and rearranged with the elements that stood out for me. This was a great segue into a funk set and lower bpm dance tracks. A whole new reason to celebrate that 80s period of sheer purpose to hit the dance floor.

REISSUE: “Boogie Wonderland" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Earth, Wind and Fire

REISSUE: “Boogie Wonderland" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Earth, Wind and Fire Earth, Wind and Fire made the 70's complete with their big disco hit "Boogie Wonderland" - a sensational dance track which also featured The Emotions. The song has lasted throughout time to give the excitement and fusion of soul and pop music in the disco arena. I have ReStructured the original 12" vocal mix and added a few breakdowns with a dub-essence. In addition to allot of looping there is a new arrangement.

REISSUE: "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - GQ

REISSUE: "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - GQ In 1978 disco reached a period when the sound was very sophisticated and "chic" - much of the music of this time reflected the night life off of the excitement occurring in clubs. GQ was a band which became an anthem for nightlife. Produced by Beau Ray Fleming with mixing assistance by Jimmy Simpson this venture was one of disco musics most promising of it's time. "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" is still considered a classic among the top. It is a slick and well executed track. I have ReStructured the cut using more of the percussion elements and also pumping up some additional breaks. This one goes out to all of the die-hards who can't get enough of this fantastic sound - it will live on-and-on.

“L'Amour Toujours” by Telex – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“L'Amour Toujours” by Telex – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Telex is Dan Lacksman, Marc Moulin and Michel Moers – an innovative synth-pop ensemble whose 1984 project “Wonderful World” featured the single “L'Amour Toujours” which translates to “love always” and play out in a strange mixture of jittery sequencers and romantic vocoder verses. It was a big underground club hit and displayed the elements of early techno and influence of early groups like Kraftwerk.

I have taken scenes from the 1981 romantic comedy “Heartbeeps” with Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters to play out the robotic feel matching both the dance track and the films outline. It is a dreamy scenic edit for the song and makes the film feel as though it belongs appropriately.

The film was directed by Allan Arkush

ReStructure Mix Update (11/29/19) “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – C + C Music Factory

C + C Music Factory is David Cole, Robert Clivillés, Freedom Williams, and Martha Wash in their initial prime with their big dance hit, “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” from 1990. A transition from the deep house movement of the late 80’s to the hardcore street beats in celebration of dance floors and their purpose. A new era of dance music was beginning from where the disco groove of the early 70’s began. Innovative beats by Cole and Clivillés made the 90’s dance scene a new experience and continued the evolution of disco music once again. Featured vocals by Martha Wash (Two Tons ‘O Fun, Sylvester) make this one more than iconic.

I have taken the 12” extended and instrumental versions of “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix with a pattern that utilizes the riffs to a tea. It flows with some classic riffs from Chic – from one innovative disco sound to the new one of the 90’s.

REISSUE: “Good Morning Midnight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

REISSUE: “Good Morning Midnight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice First Choice set the furious disco era a fire with their 1978 album “Hold Your Horses” which featured a six set program. Each track produced by various producers including Norman Harris, Thor Baldursson and Tom Moulton. The girls, Annette Guest, Debbie Martin and Rochelle Fleming delivered the sound of First Choice in a classic, yet new way. “Good Morning Midnight” is a beautiful disco serenade from the side A medley and is one of the full Salsoul Orchestra sound. It is an exciting number that has a touch of Latin flavor along with a 40s Broadway celebration feel. I have taken the album version of “Good Morning Midnight” and worked it into a new ReStructure Mix to give myself a longer version and a more underground feel with the fabulous arrangements intact. It is one of those songs that make you feel good and paints a damn good picture of what dance floors were in the 70s!

REISSUE: "Sweet Dynamite" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Claudja Barry

REISSUE: "Sweet Dynamite" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Claudja Barry Disco diva extraordinaire Ms. Claudja Barry was a burst of energy during the mid-70's. Her stature and charisma in disco music are one of the factors that make the style lasting and memorable. "Sweet Dynamite" is from her 1976 LP by the same name and is one of the classics of the Salsoul label. The project was mixed by Mr. Tom Moulton and displays the early declaration of a pure disco production. I have taken the track into the ReStructure realm focusing on the beats and bass lines - and having a little play with the funky guitars and a few riffs. It is one of the most definitive disco tracks. This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to my wonderful partner, Ken - it is one of his favorite disco tracks.

REISSUE: "All Night Man" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Loose Change

REISSUE: "All Night Man" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Loose Change If you take a look back and glance at the cover of Loose Change's credits you will find the finest musicians, engineers and production team in disco music. This was at the peak of disco music in 1979. "All Night Man" is the single from this project which created quite a stir among disco enthusiast. It outlines a trip through every element of dance music which is perfected. The fantastic vocal is poured over the raging synthesizer like milk on a crunchy cereal. And a treat it is. This project was produced by Tom Mouton (another release along side of TJM on Casablanca Records) and features musicians such as John Davis, Keith Benson, Thor Baldursson and Arthur Stoppe among many other talents. This ReStructure is dedicated to Peter Calandra and Tom Moulton. Peter being a San Diego disc-jockey who brought to life many nights of mine and Tom for being the ring master to a fine course of dance music in it's embryonic state.

REISSUE: "I Don't Need No Music" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - TJM

REISSUE: "I Don't Need No Music" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - TJM Thomas Jerome Moulton (TJM) did for disco music in the 70's what Berry Gordy created for Motown in the 60's. There was a distinct sound that Moulton created - it was the essence of soul recaptured in a modern and innovative package. It was about many faucets: from arrangement, mix down and execution. It was the final phase for dance music in the early and mid 70's to begin the work o many influenced by it's power. TJM is a project produced by Tom Moulton which I call the finale of real disco music. It has the feel of all that Moulton worked for in disco music from his projects as a "disco re-mixer", producer, and his ideals and concepts. I have taken the track "I Don't Need No Music" and placed it in the ReStructure format - which is a dance mix for the moment and by the moment in the true essence of what I know as the disco mix. Dedicated to Mr. Tom Moulton

REISSUE: "Disco Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Michele

REISSUE: "Disco Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Michele
Michele (alias Chantal Curtis) recorded the project “Magic Love” released in 1977 and produced by Pierre Jaubert and Tom Mouton. The album contained four tracks which were hits among various clubs and crowds. It reflected the New York disco sound of the time although the project was recorded in France and remixed by Mr. Moulton in Philly. The track “Disco Dance” I remember most since the title was an anthem for the burst of the club craze. I have taken the album version of “Disco Dance” and created an alternate ReStructure Mix working the keyboards and some of the funky bests and guitars into a new arrangement and adding a synthesizer – ala Patrick Cowley since the master himself worked remix of the song using his own style in 1977 – one of his early works. It is a new trip and a new end to make this closing a bit more to the dancers imagination.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/27/19) “Coco Kane” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – El Coco

El Coco is a studio disco project from W. Michael Lewis and Laurin Rinder who worked feverously in the mid and late 70’s to bring dance floors fascinating grooves. Their 1978 album “Dancing In Paradise” is an iconic project for Rinder and Lewis when all of their experience at creating music for dancers was achieved full-scale. “Coco Kane” is a track from the project and features on vocals – Alex Brown, Merria Ross and Mortonette Jenkins. This slight take on the high of the 70’s is one of the driving numbers with the classic El Coco sound featuring keyboards jumping in and out of strings and bass.

I have taken the album version of “Coco Kane” and added a new ingredient of loop ology and samples to recreate this ReStructure Mix. The keyboard riffs are edited and reassembled to make this experience a new high!

REISSUE:“Contact" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Edwin Starr

REISSUE:“Contact" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Edwin Starr Edwin Starr (Charles Edwin Hatcher) began recording in 1965 and continued his career throughout his passing in 2003. His dedication to soul roots was always evident in his performances - perhaps one of the most powerful male voices and distinctive. His path into disco music in the late 70's began with a big disco hit titled "Contact". This track is one of the most exciting and extensive dance mixes of 1978. It is now one of the Top 10 disco classics. This ReStructure Mix gives a bit more adventure to the original 12" inch version and is dedicated to Mr. Edwin Starr.

REISSUE: “Help Yourself” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lime

REISSUE: “Help Yourself” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lime Lime is Denyse Lepage and Denis Lepage. Taking on a new direction for dance music in the early 80s was their forte and done with lots of energy and excitement. “Lime II” is their 1982 project which featured “Help Yourself” – a fast moving high energy piece that displays the groups sound and again the simple necessity to keep moving to great compositions for a new era from Denis Lepage and Denyse to create a sound that became Lime’s light. I have taken the album version of “Help Yourself” and worked a new ReStructure Mix to pay tribute to Lime and their magic. The 80s was theirs and now this new re-capped version is yours.

REISSUE: "I'll Be Standing Beside You" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Passengers

REISSUE: "I'll Be Standing Beside You" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Passengers Passengers are Chuck Rolando, Elwanda Contreras, Kim Arena and Mary Shay Collen – a high energy disco troupe whose music is remembered as uplifting and somewhat like a Las Vegas review. Their first album titled “Passengers” was produced by Celso Valli (Lama, Tantra, and Azoto) who brought the group to heights of dance floors magic with tracks like “Hot Leather”, “Girls Cost Money”, and “I’ll Be Standing Beside You”. I have taken the album version of “I’ll Be Standing Beside You” and have given the love-friendship-anthem another lift into the clouds and a ReStructure Mix – pulling more of the glowing climax of the chorus to excitement. It was a song I played out during its release to a packed dance floor of almost embracing friends and dancers! A real anthem. Dedicated to Passengers an also Mr. Celso Valli!

REISSUE: "Born To Be Alive" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patrick Hernandez

REISSUE: "Born To Be Alive" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patrick Hernandez As disco music reached pop-status in the late 70's many artists and their projects absorbed the essence of dance music. Patrick Hernandez scored high with "Born To Be Alive" using every element of disco music formulated throughout the early days of underground club music to the mature polished sound it reached. This is the best of the bunch. A driving crisp synthesizer and strings to flow along with it. Hernandez added the final touch with his folk style vocals. The finished product is "dance harmony!" This ReStructure weaves in and out of what the original mix intended. Adding more vocals throughout the structure and creating a few new breaks along the way.

REISSUE: “(The Best Part Of) Breakin’ Up” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Roni Griffith

REISSUE: “(The Best Part Of) Breakin’ Up” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Roni Griffith Roni Griffith gave the early 80s a nice path into high energy music with her solo album produced by Bobby Orlando. This formula involved Orlando’s wall of percussion and his light iconic synthesizer accompaniment. One of the most seductive of his sounds with Roni’s voice presenting a nice femme a la disco beat performance. “(The Best Part Of) Breakin’ Up” is a cover of The Ronettes 1964 pop-track – originally arranged by Jack Nitzche. This full force disco arrangement gives us a jungle pounding percussion outline. It is one of the most recognizable and one of Orlando’s most memorable works. I have taken the 12” single and looped that jungle sound into a ReStructure Mix adding only a few new rhythm beats and additional kicks to give this ritual another dub-like opportunity to move you head, feet and soul. A big hit for most that played it and will always mark the disco career of Ms. Griffith. Dedicated to Ms. Roni Griffith for her wonderful work and energy given to clubs and dancers.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/27/19) “Frisco Disco” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eastside Connection

Eastside Connection is a disco group produced by Eddie Davis and released several early projects from 1976 through 1979 and is one of the early bands creating underground disco music. “Frisco Disco” is their 1978 single which featured a colored spin-wheel vinyl. The song has a full disco arrangement along with a travel theme which moves though out the mix. A favorite among many disco audiophiles and a complete trip back to the sound of the early disco movement,

I have taken the 12” version of “Frisco Disco” and used pieces of the groove to recreate a new ReStructure Mix. There is some added percussion from a classic by AKB to give the song a new dimension.

REISSUE: "On Your Knees" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Grace Jones

A Grace monument written by D.C. LaRue and Jerry Corbetta

From the 1979 LP "Muse" comes "On Your Knees" - the most sadistic of all Grace Jones' recordings - but the sweetest revenge.

Produced by Tom Moulton and arranged by Thor Baldursson - this one pulls every inch of Grace onto the dance floor with power and seduction. It was a hit in the discotheques for it's time and now ReStructured to teach us all a lesson about making it right the first time.

Backing vocals are provided by Barbara Ingram, Carl Helm, Carla Benson and Evette Benton.

REISSUE: “Step Into The Love Line ” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Amii Stewart

REISSUE:  “Step Into The Love Line ” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Amii Stewart

Amii Stewart burst onto dance floors in 1979 with her huge disco hit “Knock On Wood” – a remake of Eddie Floyd’s 1966 hit song. It was like a blast of disco energy and a formation of things to come for discotheques. Her album “Paradise Bird” from the same year contained a formula similar to the beats and powerful electronic drums and sequencers layering overhead. Produced by Barry Leng and along Amii’s sweet falsetto sound this one was once again a disco treat. “Step Into The Love Line” was always a favorite in the segued B-side of this project. It is slick and moody track played out as Amii tells her suitors that love is out of the question following a one night affair. She weights out that will play the lover. A great track that displays her voice in a beautiful way.

I have taken the album version of “Step Into The Love Line” and played out a lengthier version with some use of the pounding syn-drums and flowing mystical energy of Barry Leng’s production. This is one of those tracks I could hear for an hour and perhaps want more. A one night affair for this song also that may last forever.

REISSUE: "I've Got The Next Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Deniece Williams

REISSUE: "I've Got The Next Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Deniece Williams

The 1979 disco hit, "I've Got The Next Dance" by Deniece Williams was produced when disco music was at it's highest in dance energy. It was an exciting time.

This production by David Foster (Average White Band's "Let's Go Round Again") a multi-award winning producer, arranger and composer. It is obvious that he placed every effort in this project. And with a 12" version mixed by Mr. Jim Burgess, this track was as polished as disco music could get.

I have taken the 12" track and arranged it as if it were meant for a dance marathon for the track itself. Adding only a few more beats and some percussion to pull even more energy from the track.

ReStructured for Alan - "The dance does go on, Alan."

REISSUE: "New York At Night" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kelly Marie

REISSUE: "New York At Night" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kelly Marie

Kelly Marie began her solo recording career in 1976 with "Who's That Lady With My Man" - her hit "Run To Me" came with her second LP "If I Can't Have You". Her career on the disco dance floor remained true throughout the 80s with her biggest hit, "Feels Like I'm In Love".

From the LP "Feels Like I'm In Love" comes the single "New York At Night" which made the flip side to her US single "Feels Like I'm In Love" - with a remix by Bobby DJ Guttadaro - and an added dialogue with Bobby and DJ Lance Wise. This moment on the record holds a special place: meeting Lance Wise in Los Angeles in 1984 and spinning along side him as well as dancing to his outstanding sets at The Probe. He was a very special man and his recollection of this recording was hysterical - it holds a special place in my memory,

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to the memory of Mr. Lance Wise - a very special friend and music influence.

REISSUE: "Hideaway" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Maxine Nightingale

REISSUE: "Hideaway" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Maxine Nightingale

Maxine Nightingale hit the boogie scene in 1976 with her big hit "Right Back Where We Started From" - her recordings gave her the standing of a pop-vocalist. It was in 1979 when her title LP track "Lead Me On" made Top 100 charts.

"Hideaway" is also from this LP and is one of the fast-moving disco tracks that make the disco scene exciting and pop oriented for the time. I have take the track - which I have always played the LP version - but have given it an alternative ReStructure Mix - adding a new fading-in intro and easy to follow exit.

ReStructure Mix Update (11/26/19) “The Belle of St. Mark” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Sheila E.

Sheila Escovedo is an 80’s performer who set dance floors on fire with her massive percussion and drum talents. Best known with her affiliation with the artist, Prince and their sound which is one that lasted throughout the 80’s. “The Belle of St. Mark” is a track from her 1984 album “In The Glamorous Life” and is one of the energy peaking songs of the time. It is one which swept dance floors with layers of bongos and assorted percussion with a fascinating turn on 80’s dance music. One of my favorites from Sheila E. and another mark in the time where dance music was a celebration.

I have taken the 12” remix of “The Belle of St. Mark” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix with a long drawn out intro and fade. It is again the heavy percussion treat for those who like that Afro-Cuban sound.

REISSUE:  “Popcorn” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Pop Cycles

Pop Cycles is an electronic disco project from producer Dominic Sciullo who transforms the 1972 pop-classic “Popcorn” by Hot Butter into an 80’s dance gem. This production emphasizes its work on the rolling synthesizers and adds a touch of galactic scenes to add to the mystic of this hypnotic number. It is executed as an Italo-disco arrangement in the early 80’s would lay out with a touch more.

I have taken the 12” version and dub of Pop Cycles cover of “Popcorn” and segments of the original to create this ReStructure Mix to keep this classic alive. It uses more looping and flash-edits to recreate a new treat.

REISSUE:  “Woman” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Snob

Snob is a disco project from Philip Walter, Patrick Barbero and Philippe Renaux – formerly titled Black Sun. Their 1979 project titled “Are Women Snobs?” is one of the disco variations on the Italo-disco craze taking over in the late 70s and early 80s. “Women” is a single from the album which is known by hardcore disco connoisseurs as a slice of that disco pie. The number uses heavy synthesizers and guitar riffs in the pure disco sound and weaves a hypnotic foundation for the light and elf-like chorus singing of those ladies in the club that drive onlookers to question just where they come from. The theme alone follows the Italo-disco exploration of alternative and unique compositions. The drum tracks are the main force here and they never leave short a space where a break can benefit.

I have taken the 12” version of “Women” on the Canadian disco label P.B.I. Records and took those grooves which formulate that hardcore disco edge in a ReStructure Mix. More of the winding pieces which make this song an underground sensation. It also signifies the movement of disco music which even today continues to influence artists and dancers everywhere.

REISSUE: "Higher" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Vivian Vee

REISSUE: "Higher" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Vivian Vee

Vivian Vee is a disco chanteuse who made dance floors jump with her big hit, "Give Me A Break" from 1979 - produced by Claudio Simonetti and Giancarlo Meo (Easy Going, The Mask, Capricorn, Kasso). Vivian's third album titled "With Vivian Vee" was a nice touch for 1983 dancers - more of an electro-funk approach on most cuts and the flowing Italo-disco sound as in "Higher".

I have taken the album version of "Higher" and have given it a rework with this ReStructure Mix - taking the verses out and placing them among some loops and fun with the percussion and awesome synthesizers and sequencers. It was always a favorite early morning track for me and was great fun to remix.

REISSUE: “Take A Chance” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mr. Flagio

REISSUE:  “Take A Chance” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mr. Flagio

Mr. Flagio is an Italo-disco project from “Fla”vio Vidulich and “Gio”rgio Bacco. This track from 1983 is one of the early Italian recordings which marked the success of this genre of dance music around the globe. The extensive use of the sequencer and keyboards are not a hint of disco music – but a statement. The productions of the early 80s became streamlining and more acceptable in the electronic form – since synth-pop had become the new arena for dance music. “Take A Chance” is a heavy piece in which a simple line: “Let’s break away, come take a chance with me…” is an obvious pick up line. Inserted between the vocoder chorus and dramatic backing vocals which are somewhat operatic is the electronic cowbell which many may recognize as a staple of Klein and MBO. Mr. Flagio released only two single and their focus is definitely the deep Italian disco edge along with the more pop-street edge in a light dosage.

I have taken the 12” of “Take A Chance” – using both the vocal and instrumental to combine both for a new ReStructure Mix experience. This one plays out with more with the synthesizer loops and chorus build which made it one of the classics of Italo-disco that it is today.

REISSUE: “White and Black” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Taffy

REISSUE:  “White and Black” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Taffy

Taffy is an Italo-disco project with British vocalist Katherine Quayle as lead vocalist. The group is best known for their big 1985 hit “I Love My Radio (Midnight Radio)” which gave the colorful sound of Italian disco productions another deserved spot to influence dance music. “White and Black” is a single from Taffy released in 1982 and produced by Pellegrino and Rossi. The number seems to play out an odd sounding Harlequin type vocal that expresses a proud stance as a multi-cultural person. It is the early 80s brought to life in the creative arena when Italo-disco was being added to many charts and club playlists along with the electronic funk of the early 80s.

I have taken the Italian 12” of “White and Black” which is a remix of the original version. I have given as much of the reach for something new by taking samples of a well-known hip-hop track and reworked the experience in a whole new arrangement. It is stretched out into a longer delivery and dance experience. Much of the electronic sequencers and play are left to give the rhythm more movement and another odd layer on top of the strange performance.
