"Can't Stop The Music" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Village People

"Can't Stop The Music" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Village People

The big close of an era of disco music is the climatic track from Village People and Jacques Morali, who produced and composed. The theme from the short-lived film which was awaited so as the big disco epic. It did not do so well in the theatre arena but picked up on the soundtrack end. And with Village People and The Ritchie Family as featured artists it was all disco fans needed.

"Can't Stop The Music" is ReStructured from the 12" long version and given a few new pieces to remind you of the disco floor and it's allure.

Dedicated to the boys from the troupe and their everlasting effect on the uplifting sound and period of disco music.

“Living On Video” by Trans-X - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The 80’s came alive on dance floors with tracks like “Living On Video” by Trans-X (Cerstin “Cessy” Strecker and Pascal Languirand). The 1983 hit brought a new element to electronic music by bridging the new wave edge along with disco electronic synthesizers. It was an exciting time.

I have placed the 1983 David Cronenberg horror-film “Videodrome” starring James Woods and Deborah Harry (Blondie) along with this track - this film was requested to be used by Jussi K. and I had to wait for the right mood and track to accent it with. The film depicts a cable-TV programmer who become involved in ultimate programming fashion that brings video literally into his life.

It is a graphic piece so beware of your eyes!

"Love Now Hurt Later" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Giorgio and Chris

"Love Now Hurt Later" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Giorgio and Chris

Giorgio Moroder and Chris Bennett created a disco project in 1978 that began a period in dance music that became the innovative electronic edge that forged dance music ahead. It was the sound of Moroder's keyboards and Bennett's beautiful vocals which marked a sound for disco similar to what Captain and Tennille did for pop music. It was upbeat and fun.

"Love Now Hurt Later" is from the LP "Love's In You, Love's In Me" which also reflected the sound of the second Munich Machine project which title track was a cover of the Harem Procol classic "A Whiter Shade Of Pale". This was later covered in Canada by Ann Joy.

I have taken the track into a ReStructure trip using the rolling synthesizer and Bennett's exquisite vocal as a foundation for a whole new version.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to the wonderful Chris Bennett - check out Chris' new music at www.chrisbennett.com

“Let It In (Rock)” by Caution -Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Let It In (Rock)” by Caution -Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Jorge Barreiro produced Caution in 1980 - his past work included Black Ivory, Disco Rollers, Bamboo (“I Don’t Wanna Lose It”) and J.R. and The Love Machine. The single “Let It In (Rock)” was a disco blend of distorted guitars and heavy disco bass - along with a mimic rock vocal. The song always sounded like a follow up to Chi Chi Favales and The Black and White Band.

I have taken the track and blended it with the 1979 film starring Bette Midler, “The Rose” -using the concert sequences as the metaphor in the light rock essence of this disco track.

The film was directed by Mark Rydell

"Hot Wax" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Mother (F)

"Hot Wax" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Mother (F)

Denis Lepage is Mother (F) - he was the Instrumental for many Canadian high energy classics in the early 80's (ex. Carol Jiani, Chris Mills, Voggue) as well as the genius of Lime along with Denyse Lepage.

The classic sound of the 80's dance scene was a deliberate electronic arrangement taking disco music into the 80's with a new emphasis on percussion and recording. Lepage certainly helped to modify this new sound with his music and innovation.

"Hot Wax" is a very well known instrumental that rings familiar with Lepage's recordings and yet holds the essence of it's own. I have taken the track to give it a new ReStructure Mix which is more of an edit taking parts and pieces of this solid beauty and scrambling it into a new arrangement. Using some of the keyboards and percussion to invoke a new rendition.

"Copacabana (At The Copa)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow was apart of the disco generation with the uplifting and rhythmic song, "Copacabana (At The Copa)" from his 1978 LP "Even Now" - the track emphasized the celebratory feeling that disco music was all about. With touches of rumba and hustle dance steps injected.

The song has been included as the pop-disco classics of the 70's and I always felt was waiting for an alternative mix on the original recording. This ReStructure Mix is playful and digs deep into not only the story but some of the wonderful percussive tracks.

Dedicated to the memory of Tony Davila - a dancer here in San Diego who always made this song come alive.

“Invasion” by Patrick Cowley - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Invasion” by Patrick Cowley - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Patrick Cowley has left a legacy of electronic music that moves us far beyond it’s meaning since there is so much mystery to his own talent. It is known that Patrick worked on many projects during the late 70’s infusing his own version of keyboards and sequencers to elevate dance music even more so. It was hits by disco star, Sylvester like “Dance (Disco Heat)” and “Stars” that moved him into the early 80’s with his own trademark sound.

“Technological World” is Patrick Cowley’s final project before he was taken from us by AIDS - it was a tragedy in that Patrick had only begun to inject his sound. There could have been so much more. “Invasion” is the second track on the LP which uses a science fiction theme to move the landscape of bustling keyboards and bass sequencers along.

I have taken the 1956 science fiction film, “Earth vs. The Flying Saucers” to fill in the soundtrack and give Patrick’s disco track some vivid life. The film was directed by Fred F. Sears and is one of the best Saturday matinee sci-fi flicks to date.

“I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)” by Inner Life - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)” by Inner Life - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Inner Life is Greg Carmichael, Patrick Adams and Jocelyn Brown - a power house disco burst from the New York disco sound. Their big classic “I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)” is a track that lives on and on - and will remain one of disco music’s most powerful songs.

Jocelyn Brown belts out this track as if it were a torch song from the heart - it is one her finest performances. The production by Greg Carmichael rings into place thanks to Patrick Adams’ genius - with a blend of Afro-Cuban percussion meets a light band-like approach to dance music. This classic sound is now history.

I have taken the song along with the 1986 comedy-drama “About Last Night” starring Demi Moore and Rob Lowe and placed some of the promises, disappointments and victory over love in this Disco Video Mix - it is a blend of the 70’s and 80’s as they meet to make ends meet!

"So Excited" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Nancy Martin

"So Excited" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Nancy Martin

Nancy Martin may be a name that you may not recognize but is a voice you have definitely heard - Nancy is the voice behind Jade's "I'm Gonna Get Your Love" from 1982. Also, her tracks "Can't Believe", and under Nancy Martinez "For Tonight" and "Move Out".

Her Canadian productions were covered by Joel LeGreca (Erotic Drum Band) and featured the early 80's disco feel. "So Excited" is one of the first to bring that high energy flair back to disco in the early 80's. It was a sound that was the soft and lyrical sound that many longed for.

I have ReStructured "So Excited" and gave it a new pieces added with loops and effects to bring back that "excitement".

"With Your Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

"With Your Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

Donna Summer reigns on all counts during the 1978 release of her first film role and soundtrack to "Thank God It's Friday" - not only had all of her hard work and dedication to disco music paid off but there was also a style and chic-ness to her presence.

The soundtrack included 3 cuts with Donna Summer - one of them being "With Your Love" - which was released as an extended remix on a special 12". This track emphasized the Giorgio Moroder influence along with Summer's falsetto vocal pulling hearts and minds into the disco sound. It was truly one track that caught my ears.

I have ReStructured the track giving it a whole new arrangement using the parts which I favored most along with Donna's knockout velvet/panther like vocals. It is one of my favorites by Donna and hopefully can serve a new purpose with this ReStructure Mix.

"I'm Coming Out" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Diana Ross

Diana Ross has brought the late 70's a renewed sense of passion to dancers and music enthusiasts who knew all along that disco and "Diana" were synonymous. Her early hit "Love Hangover" helped to emphasize the outline on soul and disco music as they began to intermingle.

"I'm Coming Out" is her second big smash hit from the 1980 dream-project for disco lovers - with production by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic. The studio session made dance floors regain a new sense of hope for dance music at the start of the 80's.

I have taken "I'm Coming Out" and ReStructured it with a new meaning, breaks, and loops - it was a feeling that came around 4 AM so the completion was necessary with that influence!

"Boogie Wonderland" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Earth, Wind and Fire

Earth, Wind and Fire made the 70's complete with their big disco hit "Boogie Wonderland" - a sensational dance track which also featured The Emotions. The song has lasted throughout time to give the excitement and fusion of soul and pop music in the disco arena.

I have ReStructured the original 12" vocal mix and added a few breakdowns with a dub-essence. In addition to allot of looping there is a new arrangement.

"Ten Hertz" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Steel Cream

Steel Cream is an Italian studio concept group by Vincenzo "Vince" Tempera - the song was featured as the opening track to a TV show under the same name and ran during 1978-1979 It is a a unique track which utilizes a chorus to bring the song into a build of excitement and ecstasy.

The original release was on a 7" single and never followed up with any remix or release. It was brought to my attention by Jussi K. and a requested extended remix - after hearing the track for the first time, it was a done deal. The song reminds me of an early "Magnifique" by Magnifique with the ominous synthesizers pouring a heavy foundation for the funky guitars and irresistible femme vocals.

Dedicated to Jussi K. and a special thanks for sharing the hidden gem with me for this ReStructure Mix.

"Too Hot" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kool and The Gang

Kool and The Gang worked with pop/jazz producer Eumir Deodato in 1979 for their LP "Ladies Night - not only the title track became a hit - but the follow up the single, "Too Hot" also became a hit. The track uses a simplified jazz and pop arrangement with a fusion of disco sweetness to relay it's message.

I have taken the song and played with it's LP mix to create a morning feel and add some heavy duty dance floor elements. It was all in a thought and it meant to bring a new breath of life to the song.

"Calypso Disco" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Beckett

Beckett (Alston Cyrus) is brought into the disco arena in this single from 1977 which also appeared on the soundtrack to the film "The Deep". The track has a layer of reggae splashed over the disco beat arrangement. The original soundtrack and LP mix never allowed for a proper mix in and many layers prevented the actual loss of feeling the value of each element.

I have ReStructured this underground in hopes of adding a new flavor to the great song of celebration.

“Christmas Medley ‘84” by Bonnie Forman - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Christmas Medley ‘84” by Bonnie Forman - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Bonnie Forman was an underground high-energy artist of the early 80’s - her first single “Walk Away” gave her deep and raw vocals an arena for dance floors and later to be produced by Bobby Orlando. Her singles, “I Want A Man” and her cover of “I Only Have Eyes For You” received quite a bit of play during the high energy transition in the mid-80’s.

Her vocal on Bobby Orlando’s “Christmas Medley ‘84” are harsh, but perfect for this wicked Disco Video Mix -a little out of the ordinary and not quite the Christmas greeting you are familiar with.

I have taken the 1974 horror film “Black Christmas” and used some of the terrifying visuals to create a strange, but somehow connected mix. The films stars Olivia Hussey, Kier Dullea and Margot Kidder. It was directed by Bob Clark (“Porky’s) and is a cult horror-film favorite.

This combo is perhaps sinister and odd - but there are always those moments - and they are meant in my sometimes warped humor.

"Stay With Me" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Charo

"Stay With Me" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Charo

Charo is the "cuchi cuchi" girl of the stage - during the 70's she entertained many audiences with her gags and sex appeal. It was during the late 70's when she paired up with the biggest disco symphony from New York, The Salsoul Orchestra and several disco hits joined the disco boom.

"Stay With Me" is from her LP "Ole Ole" which is more of a novelty collection of songs with Charo's fun and carrying on throughout a staple of disco arrangements. The original track was remixed by Rick Gianatos and released as a 12" single.

This ReStructure Mix takes the 12" mix and chops and loops some of the most frenetic conga and bongo work in disco. It is a supposed love song with a few verses left to question along with Charo's wonderful misinterpreted vocal. It is a fun song.

"The Natives Are Restless" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Ray Martinez and Friends

Ray Martinez became the Miami-disco genius following his production and arrangement of "Get Off Your Aahh! And Dance" by Foxy in 1976 - a new sound was emerging with the beauty of touch dancing and the funky edge of soul. This became the sound which Martinez mastered well. Soon, pieces of tracks like "Get Of Your Aahh! And Dance" became familiar as television themes and ad marketing.

His productions with his studio concept group Amant during 1978 gave his touch in music a new sophistication and style. In the early 80's Ray continued to produce singles and projects and Ray Martinez and Friends was released as a 12" single with "Lady Of The Night" and "The Natives Are Restless" - where "Natives Are Restless" became a mix additive for many medleys and DJ mix projects.

I have taken the drum oriented piece and ReStructured it adding a new bass track and also giving it a break and measured chorus line. It is one of the greatest themes and early morning pieces I have used on the dance floor.

Dedicated to Ray Martinez for his love and craft in creating beautiful music to move with.
