Ultimate released their second LP featuring the track “Secret Agent Man” (a remake of the Johnny Rivers song from 1964) – this track went un-noticed by many dance floors since the track was only 3 minutes long. I have taken the number and extended it for a mild ReStructure and for eye candy edited scenes from 1966 action film, “The Silencers” with Dean Martin.

The song comes alive with Dean Martin, Cyd Charisse and Stella Stevens guiding the action from disco to super-spy video.

Where There's Smoke There's Fire - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Ava Cherry

• Where There's Smoke There's Fire - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Ava Cherry

Ava Cherry’s “Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire” was released on Curtum Records (Curtis Mayfield’s label) in 1980. This was one of the highest disco productions to peak the clubs with some fine elements created by musicians from the era. This track was produced by Bobby Eli and featured some of disco’s finest musicians pounding out the rhythms and laying the ground for Ava’s fantastic vocals.

I have extended the original mix with some new rhythm tracks perking up only the foreground – the song stands majestically on it’s own. It is a wonderful song that should remain a part of disco’s historical trade.

"Underwater" by Harry Thumann - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Underwater" by Harry Thumann - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

At the peak of the disco era many artists were focusing their energy on the technological aspects of dance music. Some of the more refined projects were a combination of techno-keyboards and sequencers along with strings and manual instrumentation.

Harry Thumann's "Underwater" released in 1979 was apart of this sound. My first experience at hearing "Underwater" brought to mind Meco's production of "Star Wars" in 1977, but with a touch more of keyboard and sequencer technology.

This video is a combination of images from "Star Wars" and Thumann's classic track.

I Caught Your Act - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Hues Corporation

• I Caught Your Act - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Hues Corporation

In 1977, The Hues Corporation returned from their success of "Rock The Boat" in 1974 - it wasn't an easy "act" to follow. Yet, "I Caught Your Act" had the sound which kept their reputation with loyal dancers along for the ride. "I Caught Your Act" is one of those clever songs which makes dancing fun. A string section which swirls and tempts your heart with beauty.

I have taken the track and laid out a new intro with a loop of some sorts on those wonderful string section breaks.

This ReStructure is dedicated to Alan - who has been so supportive and wonderful throughout time. Thank you with all of my heart, Alan - "I caught your act!"

Put Your Body In It - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Stephanie Mills

• Put Your Body In It - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Stephanie Mills

From the Broadway success of "The Wiz" came Stephanie Mills into the disco scene. Mills was not new to music and performing - it was something that came very natural. With producers James Mtume and Reggie Lucas, Mills helped to keep disco in top form with dance cuts "Put Your Body In It" and "You Can Get Over".

"Put Your Body In It" has always been perfection - an outline for funk/soul/disco fusion. Mills moves around this track as if she were apart of the groove. This ReStructure Mix takes the track a strips away the boldness of the synthesizers and gives Mills another chance to tease your senses.

Dedicated to Daniel here in San Diego.

• Found A Cure - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Ashford & Simpson

The 1979 LP “Stay Free” from Ashford & Simpson placed the duo on dance floors for good. Much of their magnificent work was still hot and this only made their repertoire a must.

“Found A Cure” is reworked in this ReStructure to outline more of Jimmy Simpson’s (Valerie’s younger brother) mix to the hilt. The wonderful percussion added by Ralph McDonald is as much apart of this treasure as the wonderful theme and magic lyrics. This one is a sure keeper.

I Can Fly - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Rainey

• I Can Fly - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Rainey

"I Can Fly" is an incredible 80's dance anthem which emerged from a teen-dance motion picture titled, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." It has been covered several times, the closest contender being a Ian Levine production by Louise Thomas in 1988 on Nightmare Records. This version by Rainey has an uplifting feel and keeps the song in top form.

I have received a request for this one by Robert from the UK and could not resist - the song has a soaring feel to begin with. I took the instrumentation and looped the heck out of the percussion and bass lines, as well as the vocal tracks to create more af a dub feel.

This one should move more than clouds around - it in one of the best anthems of the 80's.

Right On Target - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Paul Parker

• Right On Target - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Paul Parker

The 80's dance scene may be the most exciting in dance history. Many musicians were performing music from what they gathered from the orchestral productions of the seventies and fusing electronic keyboards for a more simplistic feel. Patrick Cowley began weaving his futuristic sound in music by Sylvester and many remixes he was creating with a few disco artists in the late disco boom of the seventies.

In the 80's he began creating music for vocalist he felt suited his music well. Paul Parker is among the highest of his achievements. Parker was a male singer who made each song his own with his powerful vocals. "Right On Target" is the first of his solo releases and probably the most memorable. It moves in every directions striking the "target" each time.

This ReStructure mix is dedicated to Paul Parker for bringing so much to dance floors and at the right time. The arrangement is populated with many more breaks and pieces of mix-effect to create a whole new feel for this classic.

Walk Away - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

• Walk Away - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

This cut closed the first act of the "Bad Girls" medley - it was a memorable song because it was an outline for Donna leaving Casablanca Records after flying high on the wings of disco success. It was all for the best, and she left behind a legacy of towering hits. This cut has been requested as a ReStructure Mix by several guests at Multiply and here on SOS. After letting go of my fear of touching such a classic - here are the results.

Donna feels as comfortable as she ever did singing disco on this track - it will stand as one of her most powerful tracks because it is so simple, yet gives so much. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte produced and once again give us Summer Magic.

Get Down - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gene Chandler

• Get Down - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gene Chandler

Known as "The Duke" this master musician recorded one of soul's most popular tracks in 1962 - "Duke of Earl." Moving through the seventies he found the opportunity to make a mark in disco history with his 1978 LP "Get Down" which also included another single smash titled, "When You #1". The 12" disco mix was flawlessly executed by master, Rick Gianatos. I have taken his wonderful tracks and mixed them into a flurry with the bongo break being the main driving force behind Chandler's "funkytown" vocals.

Be advised that a track like this comes only once in a lifetime - and if you loose track of the chant, "get down" you may have only heard it somewhere else too much - this track is a sheer gift. Now, get down!

Over and Over - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Disco Circus

• Over and Over - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Disco Circus

Many disco projects that were assembled in the late 70's were a concoction of producers and musicians from earlier bands or LPs. This cut by Disco Circus is an example of how these productions took form. Jurgen S. Korduletsch produced many disco artists including Claudja Barry, Liptique, and Gaz during the early disco period. He moved on with trust from major labels that his work would work with his knowledge of dance floor ethics. "Over and Over" is an extreme example of his follow through.

The polished synthesizers and keyboards are a reminder of what he did with "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes" with Ms. Barry - utilizing the talented musicians in his arsenal. This ReStructure is an extension of the futuristic and robotic feel of the original mix with some realigning of vocals.

Weekend Two Step - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - THP Orchestra

• Weekend Two Step - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - THP Orchestra

This was a long awaited follow up for me. THP Orchestra was Ian Guenther and Willi Morrison's creation which took on the whole concept of what disco music was about. From their initial hit, "Two Hot For Love" it was obvious these guys meant business. "Tender Is The Night" was the second project simply billed as THP #2. This 4 cut LP remains a dynamite discovery for the sound which brought dance floors excitement and pure flowing disco music.

"Weekend Two Step" was a radio hit during it's release on many hard-core disco stations and became the name of what disco dancing was all about. Beautiful lush strings and the funkiest bass guitars come alive hear with plenty of horn sections to give you the pinch and remind you that your still awake. My ReStructure is dedicated the the followers of disco music throughout it's time!

• Space Bass- Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Slick

Just as their name states, this one is "slick"!
A classic disco cut which seems to age well. With the bass line that rolls and jumps like electricity this dance track is eclectic. Slick was actually Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson and Evette Benton (Sweethearts Of Sigma, Metropolis, backing vocals for Grace Jones, Freddie James, France Joli, Nightlife Unlimited, etc.) so how could this band go wrong.
I have taken the track and "spaced" out breaks and some new effects to elongate this incredible song.

Sky High - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Jigsaw

• Sky High - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Jigsaw

From 1976 and also the theme from a kung-fu film called either, "The Dragon Flies" or "The Man From Hong Kong" came Jigsaw's "Sky High". I can remember as a child seeing the film at a drive in and at the closing of the film as the kung-fu hero takes off on a hang glider over skyscrapers this song blares over the soundtrack. It was quite a memorable moment - little did

I know that I would be ReStructuring the cut this many years later.

It is a classic little number. Great horns and strings as well as fine vocals are a big part of this production. I have broken down the song with more added beats and percussion and looping several elements that are great segues. A+ dance music here!

(Together In) Electric Dreams - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Giorgio Moroder and Phillip Oakley

• (Together In) Electric Dreams - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Giorgio Moroder and Phillip Oakley

The early 80’s were a period where disco music was transforming pop music into dance fusion. We were lucky to find the champions of disco music, such as Giorgio Moroder holding steady within the industry and giving us projects with a new style and flavor. Although Moroder may have phased a bit from the futuristic feel of disco music he used the pop dance medium as his influence. From this style he created great tunes like the theme from the early computer fantasy film, “Electric Dreams” – the genius was complete in using Human League vocalist, Phillip Oakley. Together they created dreams that lasted on the dance floor.
My ReStructure of this 80’s dance hall premium is dedicated to disco fans everywhere, appropriately.

Sergio Mendes is the Brazil sound of our time – throughout the late 60’s he created several projects, which marked the sounds of Samba, Latin Vibes and Bossa Nova. It was indeed a surprise when “Magic Lady” was released in 1977. The LP had many cuts that gave a wonderful rendition of Mendes’ versatility to adhere to pop music at the time – which was disco. “I’ll Tell You” is indeed a classic and outlines the excitement of discotheques and the energy they create. This ReStructure Mix takes the song into an arena of playful breaks and loops that work with the effective manner in which the song was originally created.

Dance Across The Floor - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Jimmy "Bo" Horne

• Dance Across The Floor - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Jimmy "Bo" Horne
1978 was the magic year for disco satisfaction! Harry Wayne Casey or as he is better know, K.C. produced this fantastic cut along with Richard Finch. The LP gave Jimmy a place where following his next release, "Spank" became a dance floor favorite. This production emphasises on K.C.'s funky keyboards and a riviting bass guitar.
