ReStructure Mix Update (10/31/21) “Boogie Nights” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Heatwave

Heatwave is a band featuring Byron Byrd, Calvin Duke, Derek Bramble, Eric Johns, Ernest Berger, J.D. Nicholas, Johnnie Wilder Jr., Keith Harrison, Keith Wilder, Mario Mantese, Peter Allatt, Rod Temperton, Roy Carter and William Jones. One of the early signs of the dance era on the horizon with their big hit “Boogie Nights” from 1976. – produced by Barry Blue. The sound of this polished ensemble gave the mid-70’s an opportunity to hear what was to come on dance floors. “Boogie Nights” is one of the iconic disco tracks that fits in the soul and funk category and still makes waves with its sharp production and moving vocals.

I have taken the album version and instrumental of “Boogie Nights” and rewired a new ReStructure Mix. Taking elements and rearranging them to give the funky piece a new opportunity to pay homage to one of the greats.

REISSUE: "Fear" by Easy Going - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Fear" was an Italian production with an innovative feel for dance floors during its release. The robotic feel along with the vocoder generated lead vocals create an electro feel and hypnotic transition. I have taken the LP version and a 1973 horror film, "Torso" -- directed by Sergio Martino and created a new meaning to the song. The film "Torso" was a Carlo Ponti production and was added to the slasher film list of the 70's. More eroticism was added to utilize the cast including Suzy Kendall ("To Sir, With Love" ) and many other Italian beauties (men and women) in this psychosexual thriller. It also contains one of the most squeamish moments of suspense at the end of the film which I used a climax for the video.

SPECIAL 2021 HALLOWEEN SEGMENT

From the 1964 Disneyland Records special effects album “Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of The Haunted House” comes a collection of scary sound effects that many from the 60s and 70s may remember hearing while trick or treating in their neighborhood or at a Halloween party. I have taken scenes from various suspense, horror or thriller movies to bring this playlist to life. It was a big part of my interest in sound and cinema were the imagination this record inspired.

REISSUE:“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. Larue released his fourth album “Forces Of The Night” in 1979- produced, arranged and conducted by Mr. Bob Esty. A disco treat with the full “force” of disco music during its peak. “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is the love anthem from this project and is also one of the moments for D.C. to comfort us with an assuring vocal during any uncertainty. It is one of my favorite songs of the time and also a moment to release that soaring spirit of love.

I have taken a strange twist on the song and blended it with the 1982 film, “Poltergeist” – starring Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. It is one of the most haunting horror films and delightfully edged with producer Steven Spielberg’s humorous touch. The disco flight moves well with the emotional and ghostly scenes.

The film was directed by Tobe Hooper (of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” fame)

REISSUE: “Watch Out For The Boogie Man” by Trax – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

This song comes from the 1978 LP titled “Watch Out” produced by Pete Bellote and Keith Forsey – two talented producers and musicians that made a mark in the late 70’s and 80’s with their affiliation.

“Watch Out For The Boogie Man” is mixed with John Carpenter’s horror classic, “Halloween” to create a parody or terror for this Halloween season. The dance track refers to the man on the dance floor and the film as we all know, is that horrible little boy who loves masks and knives.

Jamie Lee Curtis stars in the film and makes her debut as the “scream queen” – even though the song has a lighter feel about it there is no hiding the fact that this film began a whole episode of films attempting the achieve the same effect. As well as a parody of likes that was another hit in the millennium.

REISSUE:“My #1 Request” by Destination – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Destination is Danny Lugo, Kathleen Bradley and Lovechyle Theus – and Mr. Elton Farokh Ahi producing arranging and playing several instruments on this session. It is one of the most incredible disco arrangements of the 70s.

I have taken the “Departure – My #1 Request” segment which include “Put It Where You Want It” and “Fantasy From Mortisha to Gomez Adams” pieces and blended the suite with the 1991 black comedy “The Adams Family” starring Anjelica Houston, Raul Julia and Christina Ricci. The movie version of the television show which ran from 1964 – 1966 is a hilarious affair.

I have paired up a few surprises to keep the Destination track alive and give it a whole new meaning!

REISSUE: “Disco Blood” by The Vamps – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The Vamps released "Disco Blood" in 1977 on Building Records - a Brazilian label. The tracks were evidently influenced by European disco music and also the pop disco sound of the mid and late 70's. All with humor and great fun to create a lighter side of the things that can really "suck"! (sorry about the pun)

The project was produced by Santiago "Sam" Malnati

"Disco Blood" is brought to life here with the 1979 film, "Nocturna" - which featured a disco soundtrack with Gloria Gaynor, Vicki Sue Robinson, The Sweethearts of Sigma and Moment Of Truth. With the exception of Gloria and Vicki's tracks, which are now classics the remainder of the sound track is obviously a fast production of disco music during the rush of the record labels push to get the most product out into the market.

The film was a cheesy and campy version of Dracula's granddaughter, Nocturna (Nai Bonet) and her love affair with a mortal disco band member (Anthony Hamilton) and finally their freedom to love one another. And later boogie down with each other at the Starship Discovery discotheque.

The film also starred John Carradine and Yvonne DeCarlo - it had some funny moments with dialogue. The film still has not made the DVD market yet.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/30/21) “Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lisa

Lisa is a disco artist whose career began with a big club hit titled “Jump Shout” in 1982 and helped to start a movement in San Francisco to bring disco-oriented tracks back to the dance floor. Her influence was uplifting and positive from the inception of her music and its energy. Her 1985 release was a cover of Diana Ross and The Supremes classic “Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart” – produced by Ian Anthony Stephens and Paul Parker (“Right On Target”). This dance twist works very well with Lisa’s unique vocal delivery and in places leaves an indelible mark. A nice electronic production works like a well-oiled machine here.

I have taken Lisa’s 12” vocal and instrumental of “Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart” and re-vamped the song for this ReStructure Mix. I have used the bass keyboards as a new guide for the arrangement and added some new drum tracks to bring it alive again.

One of the first "Stars On 45" Medley's - not quite. This magic tune was composed and pieced together with symphonic arrangements and gyrating synths, which keep it moving in a wonderful direction. I have taken the liberty to pull the medley material away from the wonderful overture and extend most of it's elements. Keeping it safe and sounding fresh.

This classic was produced by Boona Music - Lana and Paul Sebastian who also produced Madleen Kane, Leonore O'Malley, , "You Gotta Dance" by Pacific Blue and "High On Love" by Claire.

REISSUE: "Jungle DJ" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kikrokos

This beautiful medley from the "Jungle DJ and Dirty Kate" LP on Polydor is one of Cerrone's many Euro-Disco projects which helped to bring the sound of a full orchestra together with an ensemble of soulful and disco-fied vocals. A great sound for the a pair of headphones!

This ReStructure Mix brings more fantasy and jungle creatures upfront - thanks to VJC from Disco 935 for requesting this cut.

REISSUE: “Cocomotion" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - El Coco

At the age of 16 and hearing this song for the first time in a discotheque I believed I was listening to one of the most incredible songs ever! The breaks keyboards I always believed were being blended in the disc jockey and they were from a "Close Encounters" soundtrack! That bass - all I could say is that I was lucky that it was being hear at a club called Lombard's here is San Diego - the sound system was fierce! W. Michael Lewis and his production partner Laurin Rinder were the writers and musicians on most of their great early disco music. It was the way it was suppose to sound - raw and ready. Untouched by the big record labels - like a live jam sessions directly to the dance floor. Even after this many years is "Cocomotion" still thumping under it's own unique sound.

My ReStructure is a varied break adjustment - try to guess where it starts and ends.

REISSUE: Fly, Robin, Fly - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Silver Convention

The bass line and strings which created "boogie" back in the mid-seventies. Silver Convention was an important part of disco's growth - produced and formulated in Munich, Germany where much of the forerunners of disco were working a new sound dedicated to dance floors. This masterpiece of dance is ReStructured and broken down into several parts with new breaks and attitude. Thanks to Yahu for requesting this one - it is dedicated to him and his wonderful site "DJs Portal" from Poland.

REISSUE: "I Wanna Funk With You Tonite" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Giorgio

Giorgio Moroder recorded "Knights In White Satin" in 1976 for Oasis Records (a subsidiary of Casablanca Records) and formulated his Euro-disco sound using his own Munich Machine ensemble. This sound was very similar to many of his productions with Donna Summer, Roberta Kelly and Munich Machine, but somehow managed to capture an essence of it's own. It was producer, arranged, and mixed by Giorgio Moroder

"I Wanna Funk With You Tonite" was the last track from this project and is the topic of this ReStructure - adding more of the funky bass keyboards as the outline for the mix along with song new "thumping".

Thanks to Gary from Baytown, Texas for requesting this ReStructure and this extended mix goes, his way.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/29/21) “Cuba” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Man 2 Man

Man 2 Man is Miki Zone and Paolo Cilione along with musician and producer Man Parrish. This HI-NRG is one of the 80’s groups with some exciting results as in their 1986 energy piece, “Male Stripper”, one of the devoted projects to the high energy scene and its growth. “Cuba” is their 1988 cover of The Gibson Brothers disco classic – produced by Man Parrish and Paul Zone. The original is transformed into a stomping electronic dance piece that is hard to resist. It plays out well as a remake and as another release from the duo it surely gives us another sound that they are known for which is energy and excitement.

I have taken the 12” version of Man 2 Man’s “Cuba” and re-worked the piece with some new Cuban percussion and effects. It is displayed here in parts where the break takes up some breathing space for that non-stop energy.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/29/21) “Angel Eyes” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lime

Lime has brought to the 80’s an excitement that soon took over the ready feet and hearts on dance floors everywhere. Denis Le Page took his sound and made it an icon which would become high-energy dance music in the mid-80’s. “Angel Eyes” comes from their third album titled “Lime 3” and is another example of the imaginative fold in which Lime creates in every dance track. It is as if the formula were created and programmed into place all along – only this time around a unique vocal approach aided their success also. “Angel Eyes” is a love song that pulsates with son many keyboard riffs and syndrum fills that it also jumps right out at the dance floor. It is one of Lime’s truly outstanding pieces and remains one of my favorites.

I have taken the album version, 12 remix and a special sub version of “Angel Eyes” and rewired the energy for this ReStructure Mix. There is more moving of verses and chorus pieces to give a new outline and also a play with those drums.

REISSUE: "Night Sky" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Rose Laurens

Rose Laurens is a French singer and song writer who is better known for her 1986 dance floor classic “American Love” – produced by Jean-Pierre Goussaud. Her unique vocal delivery can remind one of Tina Turner at moments. “Night Sky” is a single released in 1984 and became an instant dance hall classic for early morning dancers with its fantasy realm using the zodiac as an outline. The English version of the single is actually an interpretation of the French version titled “Zodiacale”.

I have taken the English version of the 12” single – produced again by Jean-Pierre Goussaud and have given it a new ReStructure Mix – extending it with some new arenas of universal beats and some highlighting the 60s backing chorus feel. It is a new journey for those who admire Rose and also the fantasy of the dance floor.

REISSUE: “Never Say Goodbye” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Chip Chip

Chip Chip is an Italo-disco project from producer Michael Gordon and features
Elena Ferretti and Caren Monique – who later were known as another studio group titled Two Girls (“Another Boy In Town”). The power of Italo-disco had built itself into a completed experimental phase and was now a full out “high energy”. This production is definitely influenced by the group Fun Fun a few years earlier when their track “Colour My Love” became a crossover for Italian disco in clubs as the title follows the familiar pattern. “Never Say Goodbye” was one of my personal favorites during its release and even now always brings back a magical time of 80’s dance music in my heart and mind. The smooth rolling bass and whimsical keyboards have always been a special place of the dance floor and the fantasy that disco music provided for feet.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Never Say Goodbye” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix using the drums and percussion in a new display. More of the rolling keyboard loops and sequencers break the verses into new energy.

REISSUE: “I’m Gonna Make You Want Me” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gina Lamour

Gina Lamour is a high energy disco artist from the early and mid-80s who follows the path of synth-pop artists like Stacy Q. Her sound is a sensual and dramatic delivery of disco stage appeal with the lip gloss and pulsating beat. “I’m Gonna Make You Want Me” is her 1985 single produced by high energy master, Ian Anthony Stephens – who also gave us singles by Paul Parker, Hazell Dean, The Flirtations and Lisa. His electro-symphonic arrangements were a great return to the disco edge in the 80s.

I have taken the vocal and instrumental from the 12” single and created a new ReStructure Mix which adds a few more sticks of dynamite to bring the catchy and lyrical chorus and Gina’s sexy energy to a new part. It was a nice high energy track during its release and will remind dancers of the electronic wall-of-sound that high energy created for more dance fantasies!

REISSUE: "Chinese Magic” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jessica

Jessica is Malaika Trümper – a German disco singer who recorded several dance singles during the mid and late 80s. The music produced by Bernd Dietrich and Engelbert Simons is a high energy feel which was labeled ‘Asian New Wave”. This was a bright and uplifting sound similar to groups like Modern Talking. “Chinese Magic” is a small celebration with a rolling chorus which brings to mind fan dancers for me. This one always had a melodic feel which I loved to use during tea dances or programs with an uplifting feel. It is simple and Jessica’s soft and breathy vocals bring to mind a disco period where happiness was the mood of the music.

I have taken the vocal and instrumental from the 12” single and recreated a deeper edged ReStructure Mix using the rolling bass synths on a down beat. The uplifting chorus is accentuated with more of an underground lead into this mystical sound I have also rearranged the original to give it not only a longer act but also add a few breaks with a classic sample from Led Zeppelin which came to mind somewhere in the creative process.

REISSUE: “Baila Bolero” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Fun Fun

Fun Fun is an Italo-disco group from the early 80s which brought back the “happy” and celebratory feel to the new sound called “high energy”. This was quite a time for disco lovers and those who loved to get lost in a good space on dance floors. Many of their early tracks featured vocals by Spagna, Antonella Pepe and Angela Parisi – the chorus of beautiful sweeping innuendos. “Baila Bolero” was from their 1987 project “Double Fun” and carried on their sound of rolling synthesizers and uplifting melodies. One of my all-time favorites of Fun Fun’s and also of the period.

I have taken the 12” “Bolero Dance Mix” and “House Mix” onto the ReStructure Mix formula to pump this piece even more and create some new surprises. More of those Spanish guitars and riffs are featured here.

Dedicated to those wonderfully filled people who continue to keep the “uplifting” sound of disco music alive in a time where it is needed and perfect.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/28/21) “Please Don’t Go” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Digital Emotion

Digital Game is an Italian disco project lead by Italian producer Alessandro Novaga. Their delivery was three releases from 1983 – 1985 and all three were covers of disco classics. “Please Don’t Go” is their electronic production of K.C. and The Sunshine Band’s 1979 release from their album “Do You Wanna Go Party”. This placemat in Italo-disco gave the track more of notoriety and with the yearning melody it was revived on dance floors again. Novaga’s electronic piece is close to the original and contains a proper male vocal to pull this heartbreak treat into a nice finished piece.

I have taken the `12” vocal and the instrumental of Digital Game’s “Please Don’t Go” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix. The edit is more of an instrumental focal mix and uses layers of the original mix to give it a new face.

“Don’t You Want Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jody Watley - https://youtu.be/g3U-JqfoAA0

REISSUE: “Don’t You Want Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jody Watley

Jody Watley is one of the artists from the 70’s who successfully transformed herself into funk singers who made a light of her own career. From her first appearance as a “Soul Train dancer” and then onto being a member of one of the most exciting disco groups of the late 70’s – Shalamar. Throughout the 70’s it seemed as though her singing career had become the worthy investment and in the 80’s her solo career was the big win. “Don't You Want Me” is from her first solo project and was produced by Bernard Edwards of Chic. This track is one of the most iconic pieces which give off Jody’s aura of a gentle sweetness and yet a hard hitting funk edge. One of my favorites of mine from productions to the last vocal piece it is hypotonic.

I have taken the 12” club version, dub and vocal dub into a dreamy like arrangement for this ReStructure Mix of “Don’t You Want Me”. There is an added hint of Jody’s past and also a few new breakdowns and a fade.

REISSUE: “Tell It To My Heart” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Taylor Dayne

Taylor Dayne is a vocalist who took the 80’s dance floor hostage with her freestyle hits “Tell It To My Heart” and “Prove Your Love” from 1987. The tracks produced by Ric Wake were the pop-dance sensation with a blend of hard street beats and Miami freestyle along with Taylor’s powerful vocals. An appropriate close of the 80’s with the power and pop presences which brought dance music another crown for its long run. “Tell It To My Heart” remains a classic among the 80’s dance scene and still gives way to a nice stage for Ms. Dayne’s unforgiving vocals. One of her early recordings as Les Lee was a track titled “I’m The One You Want” from 1985 gave Taylor the attention she needed to become the pop icon that followed.

I have taken the 12” vocal, dub and accapella of “Tell It To My Heart:” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix to mark this period of stompin’ dance music. It plays out with more breaks and some effects to light those feet back on fire.

REISSUE: “The Rain” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Oran “Juice” Jones

Oran “Juice” Jones is a vocalist who helped bring the end of the 80’s to a full-funk closing with his 1986 track “The Rain” – produced by Russell Simmons and Vincent F. Bell. Also on the early Def Jam Recordings label with a hard beats foundation which was being used as dub-mixes from popular tracks being stripped down. This story of double sorrows occurring simultaneously with a romance. The song was quite the answer to the soulful and funk necessities of its time and remains one of the memorable moments on dance floors at the time.

I have taken the 12” vocal and dub beats versions of “The Rain” and brought them into a new ReStructure Mix and a few pieces of new grooves. The Spinners and Grace Jones make unusual cameos and help to make this groove one with more than just heartbreak taking place.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to John Manning – with thanks for requesting it as a project along with the Spinners classic and also for being just an all-around good guy.

REISSUE: “Pilot Error” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Stephanie Mills

Stephanie Mills is a diva among discophiles. Her music has been an effect on the dance floor from start which creates a powerful and lasting dance experience. “Pilot Error” is her 1983 release from the album “Merciless” – produced by David Wolfert and Gary Klein. This funk-disco track is an outline of a relationship whose problems arise from the lack of experience in dealing with issues – as the song portrays a serious moment gone awry. The production is one that plays out well with the beats and bass as the song catapults into an emotional disaster – but the dance aura works in the opposite direction.

I have taken the 12” version of “Pilot Error” and remapped the track into a new trip for this ReStructure Mix. Pieces of the percussion are used in new ways and there are some trigger loops to make up some new breaks.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Steven Greer – for his everlasting love for this great diva.

REISSUE: “It’s A Love Thing” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Whispers

The Whispers are a soul group that was formed in 1964 and recorded up to 2000. Their harmonies and soulful vocal arrangements are the real advantage of the ensemble and although time has moved and given their music a new sound the essence are The Whispers themselves. “Imagination” is their album from 1980 produced by Dick Griffey and The Whispers. “It’s A Love Thing” is the funk touch of tight early 80’s dance grooves. It is the old school that stands out among the class as most of the music from Solar Records has. It is a love song that brings out the men in a wonderful serenade that reaches peak after peak and even throughout the verses gives them an opportunity to prove why their lasting is evident.

I have taken the 12” version of “It’s A Love Thing” and reworked an edit for this ReStructure Mix which moves the original vocal into a dub mix. Pieces of the electronic groove are dissected and rearranged to bring new life into this old school classic.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/26/21) “Who’s Your Boyfriend” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eric

Eric is a Bobby Orlando project from 1984 using his high energy format from the period which was winding up from the early 80’s onto the mid with a passionate high-energy storm. The heavy percussion and ricochet syn-drums are placed in rotation here that is powerful and overwhelming. “Who’s Your Boyfriend” is the scorned lover wanting to feed his own jealousy by igniting a revealing question. All in good fun and some camp on top of it. This is the Bobby Orlando progression at its peak.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Who’s Your Boyfriend” and reloaded the drums and percussion up for this ReStructure Mix. The layout is more sparing for those rolling bass sequencers and the drums still pound out the question.

REISSUE: “Start A New Affair” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ruth ‘Silky’ Waters

Ruth “Silky” Waters is one of disco music's supreme moments where the anthem came alive in stark mirrored lights. Her album “Never Gonna Be The Same” from 1979 was produced by Mr. John Davis and features strings and horns from Don Renaldo and percussion performed by Larry “B” Washington – a full disco injection of power and love. Her first release of the title track, “Never Gonna Be The Same” was a huge success in many clubs and disco radio airplay – the emotion captured by Ms. Waters leaves one wanting to grab a handkerchief between breaks. “Start A New Affair” was the second single from the album to bring about the same feel – a positive look at a one night stand where love seems promising and missing at the moment. Ruth delivers another powerful performance here. It gives moments of the song a soaring energy and the promise of love great potential.

I have taken the album version and worked a lengthier ReStructure Mix using the build from the closing as the slow climb in reverse. It has a few more breakdowns to give that emotion an opportunity to be recognizes. One track that always worked for me during its release and also gave me a wonderful place on the sideline of many dance floors watching dancers dance into a frenzy.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Nick and Lindsay – thank you again boy! Can I ever get enough of your requests, love and devotion? No. I will always be there for you as you always are. Much love.

REISSUE: "Chain Reaction" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Diana Ross

Diana Ross released her album “Eaten Alive” in 1985 which gave Diana a new identity once again with the 80s pop dance arena. The club sound for this period was determined by how well your 12” single release was reworked for the dance floor and by whom. “Chain Reaction” is from this project and was produced by Albhy Galuten, Barry Gibb and Karl Richardson – it is a clever piece which takes us back to a bouncy and stompin’ Motown-esque feel rhythm and Diana sounding as if we had taken a step back in time.

I have taken the 12” version of “Chain Reaction” – remixed by Francois Kevorkian and Ron St. Germain and have created a ReStructure Mix to salute this favorite. Using more of those 60s retro strings that flow like a symphony of sweet memories and also worked a few rhythm loops to give parts of the song a new experience.

REISSUE: "Maybe This Time" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Norma Lewis

Norma Lewis graced the dance floors with her disco-fied version of "Maybe This Time" from the musical, "Cabaret". Produced by Marvin Howell (ERC Records and Jackie Rawe's "I Believe In Dreams") and Tony Green.

This was a classic in the making - a pure disco arrangement and the placement of a song in the genre which worships it's kind. Norma Lewis delivers the track with pure disco ala torch magic that keep meaning and drama in place.

I have ReStructured the track for Marvin Howell who continues to keep disco music and it's magic alive with his troupe Keep The Playin' (www.keepthemusicplayin.com) - the original version - this is my breakdown of the magic in a new package.

For you Marvin - thank you for all you do - "I Believe In Dreams!"

REISSUE: "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

Donna Summer took her incredible talent into the 80s with legendary producer, Quincy Jones with her 1982 LP "Donna Summer" featuring a new approach to her diverse range and style.

"Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" was the first single from the album and changed the shape of dance floors as well as a new pop/jazz and funk approach to dance music. It was quite a "smoker" and an exciting time for Summer fans everywhere.

I have taken the 12" remix by Bruce Swedien and Craig Kostich and used both the vocal and instrumental (featuring a sax solo by Ernie Watts) and reunited the classic pieces into a new ReStructure Mix. It is truly a new sound and edit for the song.

Dedicated to my late "best friend" Roy (Angelo) Orozco - he was one of the die-hard Donna fans who made her magic come alive where he went. And thank you Donna for the Las Vegas show and making Roy feel special.

REISSUE: “No Frills Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jennifer HollidayHolliday

Jennifer Holliday is a vocalist who brought a new life to Broadway with her performance as Effie in “Dreamgirls” and her rendition of “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going)”. Her vocals brought a hard hitting emotion and 80s soul release to the many who could not get enough. In 1983 Jennifer released her first solo album and began a career offering powerful ballads and some slick dance tracks. Her 1985 single “No Frills Love” is one that I can remember being an event. This one featured a choir that accented the chorus along with Jennifer’s now masterful adlibs and emotion throughout this dance number. The production from Arthur Baker is a flawless recording that gives the mid-80s a hardcore turn into a soulful early house feel. This one was a dance floor filler from start to finish.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to rework a ReStructure Mix that plays more like a reprise of the original dance single. It incorporates the energy and soulful vocals with some new layout for the genius use of percussion and heavy pounding drums. A few loops and use of vocal elements are added to lift the 80s classic a bit further.
