REISSUE: “No Frills Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jennifer HollidayHolliday

Jennifer Holliday is a vocalist who brought a new life to Broadway with her performance as Effie in “Dreamgirls” and her rendition of “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going)”. Her vocals brought a hard hitting emotion and 80s soul release to the many who could not get enough. In 1983 Jennifer released her first solo album and began a career offering powerful ballads and some slick dance tracks. Her 1985 single “No Frills Love” is one that I can remember being an event. This one featured a choir that accented the chorus along with Jennifer’s now masterful adlibs and emotion throughout this dance number. The production from Arthur Baker is a flawless recording that gives the mid-80s a hardcore turn into a soulful early house feel. This one was a dance floor filler from start to finish.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to rework a ReStructure Mix that plays more like a reprise of the original dance single. It incorporates the energy and soulful vocals with some new layout for the genius use of percussion and heavy pounding drums. A few loops and use of vocal elements are added to lift the 80s classic a bit further.
