ReStructure Mix Update (7/3/26): “Action” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – La Bionda

La Bionda are Carmelo and Michelangelo La Bionda - who are brothers and helped to formulate early Italian disco music. “Action” is from their 1980 project titled “I Wanna Be Your Lover” which presented a more predominant electronic edge that was becoming the 80s dance sound. This wavy-synthed track features a percolating synth-keyboard in arpeggio state laying out an odd but infectious rhythm where our desirous storyteller exposes how he wants to be a part of what is happening out there. It has some simple riffs that give the technical end of the track a nice contrast to its source. La Bionda was here in a discovery stage and their talents in disco music are further examined.

I have taken the 12” version of “Action” and have taken piece by piece into a new ReStructure Mix. New base beats pound below and some neutral effects pop in and out of this new arrangement.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/2/26): “Passengers For Mexico” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Passengers

Passengers are an Italian disco ensemble featuring Chuck Rolando, Elwanda Contreras, Kathleen Flynn and Gesualdo Arena - produced by Angelo Piccarreta and Felice Piccarreda who also brought us disco groups Nuggets and V.I.S.A. - and also featured the late music composer and arranger Mr. Celso Valli. “Passengers For Mexico” is a single from their self-titled second album released in 1980. This piece is a disco arrangement with all of the dedication to the theme which lightly gives us a travel ignition south of the border. It features some fierce castanets and Flamenco guitar riffs which paint a more enticing lure to this simple yet alluring song. The vocals are a falsetto and bring the men up a few levels to where they maintain their usual key. The Celso Valli influence became the excitement for myself when the group released a new track since his work always reflected creativity and a disco trip worth taking.

I have taken the 12” version of “Passengers For Mexico” and reworked the track for a new outline for this ReStructure Mix. I have added a Mariachi segment to give this trip a new break and also used new beats to pound out the stomping excitement.

ReStructure Mix Update (6/30/26): ”Come On-A My House” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – K.T.

K.T. (Kay Toinette Oslin) is a singer and theater actress who released a cover of Rosemary Clooney’s 1951 hit, “Come On-A My House” in her 2001 project titled “Live Close By, Visit Often” - produced by Raul Malo. Fly-Life Music adapted the album version the same year for a techno/house version which included remixes by Motive 8, Michael T. Diamond and Mind Trap. The power of this song flowing to a pulsating house bass along with the techno riffs are a big moment for dance floors of the time. The vocals are given an eerie feel along the raging arrangement of these remixes. The original 1951 gives a slight big-band and jazz feel where this production takes it all and shakes it up for the energy.

I have taken the 12” versions of K.T.’s “Come On-A My House” and reworked the pieces into a new ReStructure Mix. There is a maniacal new intro which begins menacing and ends the same way.

Key Largo is an underground deep-house production from Eddie Richards and their single “Heartbreaker” from 1993 is a path from signals of house music. This moody number is a dream sequence of a remembrance of a relationship where one has been used to the extreme and no other name fits. There is a wonderful deep tribal feel to this production also where a spell is being cast upon the dance floor in an ambient form. The delays on the lead vocal give off that haunting feeling which brings on a nice resonance and appealing end. This one also worked for myself during afterhours sets - however it can be placed during those winding down peak moments where the crowd is taking some time to slowly recover on the dance floor.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Heartbreaker” and spilled the dreamy-edge of the production into a new ReStructure Mix. I have added a classic beauty from Giorgio Moroder’s classic “Our Love” by Donna Summer in for a new rhythmic quality. This one makes a reverb sound like home again.

MAD-MOMENTS: "The Exorcist" or "The Ecchorcist"

MAD-MOMENTS: In 1974 MAD Magazine covered the now horror-classic "The Exorcist" and their illustrated version was titled "The Eccorcoist" and had several jokes centered around The Watergate Conspiracy. Even more hilarious to myself was this clip featuring comedian Flip Wilson using one of his famous lines when he was in drag.

This is set following the scene when Ravin (Reagan) comes down to the party and urinates in front of her mothers guests:

The Associates are Billy MacKenzie and Alan Rankine - a band from Scotland who began their recording career in 1980. In 1988 the band covered Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass” and became a recognizable sound on the alternative dance floor with their sleek electronic arrangements and rock edged vocal delivery. “Just Can’t Say Goodbye” is their 1990 project titled “Wild and Lonely” and is one of their most emotional singles formulated in the electronic-new beat style format. Perhaps one of the most intense vocal performances from MacKenzie which creates a dark and effective piece of the song. Mixed with style of new-beat music with its erratic beats and fusion of musical scale. The Associates were always a band attempting to achieve more from the industry where I have always felt this track is more for their fans and pleasingly so.

I have taken the 12” version of “Just Can’t Say Goodbye” and readministered the elements into a new ReStructure Mix. The moody sound of the original is broken into a new arrangement which defines the emotions and despair.

ReStructure Mix Update (6/27/26): ”Para Los Rumberos” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tito Puente

Tito Puente is a Puerto Rican-American Latin bandleader, jazz, salsa and mambo musician. His recording career spans 1953 through the late 90’s. In 1992 the film “Mambo Kings” brought his music back to the clubs and in a house fusion a few of his classic Mambo numbers were reborn for a new audience. “Para Los Rumberos” ("For the rumba dancers" or "For the partygoers") is from his 1972 album by the same name - the piece was also recorded by Santana. This fierce number is translated with a house keyboard touch and deep bass which makes the track alive once again. It is one of the great examples of why this man is called “The King of Latin Music”.

I have taken the 1992 12” remix of “Para Los Rumberos” from Masters At Work and their incredible talents on this dance overhaul into a ReStructure Mix to give Tito Puente his spotlight once again!

ReStructure Mix Update (6/26/26): ”Romantic Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Ritchie Family

The Ritchie Family is a dream-disco group from producer Jacques Morali - who also gave dance floors Village People, Patrick Juvet, Gypsy Lane and Dennis Parker. “Romantic Love” comes from their second album titled “Arabian Nights” from 1976. It is undeniably a Euro-disco flavor with more strings and melody along with dance floor riffs supplying the glue to hold it all together. The Mantovani piano and string touches give it a majestic touch along with the gals Cassandra Ann Wooten, Cheryl Mason Jacks and Gwendolyn Oliver who “woo” us with their delicate and energizing vocal teaming. “Romantic Love” comes off as a sweet and sometimes silly love song with a Broadway intention yet it displays this trio and their early music which became one of the catalysts and shifts in pop music during the mid-70s.

I have taken the album version of “Romantic Love” and played out the drama in a ReStructure Mix that places more chopping on the block. A few pieces of percussion added from Tasha Thomas’ “Midnight Rendezvous” are laid out as the groove for this remixure.

ReStructure Mix Update (6/22/26): ”Tomorrow” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Communards

The Communards are Jimmy Sommerville (vocalist from Bronski Beat) and Richard Coles. The duo had several hits during the mid and late 80’s with covers of The Jackson 5’s “Never Can Say Goodbye” and Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way” where Sommerville transferred a whole new energy and excitement to these hits with his unique falsetto vocal approach. The electronic accompaniment is also a lasting piece of their success where many segments of each song are broken down and then lifted right back where the energy is contagious. “Tomorrrow” is a symphonic and climatic piece with the intent of a love leaving an abusive and done relationship is the cry making him stronger. Somerville once again revives his intense focus on the emotion with much affect. The track was produced by Stephen Hague and pulls this duo into another historic mark of their music.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Tomorrow” into a new ReStructure Mix and spared a few new crescendos for this outline. There are a few new breaks with vocal segments again emphasizing the power of Sommerville’s talent.
