ReStructure Mix Update (8/31/17) "Reach For Me (Can’t You See Lovin’ Me)” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Elite

Elite is an Italo-disco project from producer Tony Carrasco and is conducted and arranged by Celso Valli. One of the great moments in club music where the undercurrent of disco is accented with a unique blend of vocals and an outstanding production. Hardcore in its execution, the album titled “Premiere” contains four disco tracks that playout more as an adult contemporary sound of dance music. One of the great Italian disco pieces of 1980 when dance music in the US was manuerving towards pop and funk. “Reach For Me (Can’t You See Lovin’ Me)” is a deep edged and moody early morning energy track that contains a bit of sleaze. It is one that I always moved towards in an afterhours program. One of my favorites in this genre. Vocals are provided by Jon Pickett, Michelle Wilson and David Vinson.

I have taken the album version that is a Celso Valli masterpiece and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to pay homage to this track. More percussion is added and a play on the introduction is added as well as more of that swirling and dreamy interlude that Valli works so well as he did in “Hills Of Kat Mandu”.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/30/17) "Don’t You Want My Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vera

Vera is Patti Masi – a Canadian disco artist who helped the club scene during a transition from disco to electronic dance productions. Her beautiful vocal is one of the key elements to the disco magic of the late 70s. Her first big hit from 1981 “Take Me To The Bridge” is one of the best of its time for club records. Produced by Louis Toteda and beautifully arranged and executed. A start for this artist to become an addition and long waited follow up for hardcore jocks everywhere. “Don’t You Want My Love” is a single from Vera released in 1982 and from her second album. A nice love sonnet in an early morning package or sleaze feel. The beautiful vocals from Vera are like warmth that brings a promise to love. This is one of my favorite forms of dance music and this one was a favorite and a part of many of my afterhour’s programs.

I have taken the 12” of “Don’t You Want My Love” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix with more instrumental segues to give a nice introduction to Vera’s lovely vocal. A few breaks are added to give it more of that after hours feel.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Patti Masi (Vera) and Louis Toteda – thanks for sharing your talent with the world.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/28/17) "Love The One You’re With” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gino Soccio

Gino Soccio brought to disco music a whole new realm of electronic dance music into the late 70s. His work in the dance music began long before his cutting edge solo-project “Outline” in 1979. His prior work included session groups Kebekektrek, Gotham Flasher, Lafleur, Witch Queen, Busta Jones, Karen Silver and Shelbra Dance. “Love The One You’re With” is Soccio’s beat-box cover of Stephen Stills 1970 rock/folk song which was influenced by Billy Preston. This cover is sprinkled with touches of Soccio’s trance-like arrangement in a more pop-oriented arrangement. Rolling keyboards and some looping vibes assure us it is Soccio and again his choice and delivery are always welcome.

I have taken the 12” release of “Love The One You’re With” and reworked this ReStructure Mix to stretch the beats and kick drums out into a more lengthy and make shift version. Many of the nice kick drums fill in on an extended revisit and a little fun with looping and play with the vocal tracks.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/26/17) "Emotion” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Samantha Sang

ReStructure Mix Update (8/26/17) "Emotion” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Samantha Sang

Samantha Sang has one of the iconic songs of the late 70s – “Emotion” from 1978 was produced by Albhy Galuten, Barry Gibb and Karl Richardson. This tender ballad feels like the period thanks to the accompaniment from the Bee Gees bringing the chorus alive along with Samantha’s soft and silky vocal. This one marks a pop-radio sound polished to perfection for this new Australian vocalist.

I have taken the album version of “Emotion” and gave it a hardcore ReStructure Mix by working it into a more predominant dance beat and rhythm. It still incorporates the original feel with a few new breakdowns and an extended time for Samantha to express her loss of that great love we all know about.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/24/17) "I Feel For You” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Chaka Khan

ReStructure Mix Update (8/24/17) "I Feel For You” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan is a voice which powers the black funk culture. Her presences in many tracks are immediately a force that is memorable and a statement to the recording. Throughout the early 70s her work with a band titled Rufus always gave Chaka the front stage and her solo album “I’m Every Woman” in 1978 marked a pinnacle moment for fans and music history. “I Feel For You” comes from Chaka’s 1984 album and blends the 80s street beat with the pop-dance movement of the period. The song was written by Prince and featured originally on his second album and a cameo from Stevie Wonder on harmonica and a few rap ends from Grandmaster Melle Mel make this one a classic and another reason to honor Ms. Khan as one of the artists who add to the dance repertoire of time.

I have taken the 12” remix of “I Feel For You” and worked this ReStructure Mix giving it a longer moment for Chaka’s words of love and affection. A play with the beats and percussion outline more play on the track with a few loops to make her statement obvious and this remix more fun to remind us of the beat street period of dance music and its influence.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/16/17) "Thank God There’s Music” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Theo Vaness

Theo Vaness is a disco singer from The Netherlands who was sang with a Dutch band called The Shoes. His first album featured a medley of classic pop hits in a disco medley and appropriately titled “Back To Music”. The productions provided by Michael, Lana and Paul Sebastian reflected the Euro influence on disco music with a New York feel. “Thank God For Music” is from Theo’s third album and one of my favorites as it brings the disco era to a wonderful close in celebrating the music. It is an anthem that plays out well again for Theo as his vocals create a unique feel and energy.

I have taken the album version of “Thank God There’s Music” and reworked a ReStructure Mix that gives the tracks riffs more placement and an extended message. More of the chorus is reworked for a message that should always continue.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/12/17) "Blame It On The Boogie” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Jacksons

ReStructure Mix Update (8/12/17) "Blame It On The Boogie” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Jacksons

The Jackson’s recorded “Blame It On The Boogie” in 1978 – from their album “Destiny”. A package that brought the group into the disco realm once again with the touch of soul and boogie blended to perfection. The song was co-written by Mick Jackson who recorded a big disco single in 1979 titled “Weekend”. It is another one of Michael Jackson’s vocals where he takes the song and makes it work in more ways than one. It is a classic Jackson recording and also has been remade several times as it is notable as a disco statement.

I have taken the album version of “Blame It On The Boogie” and created a ReStructure Mix with more of a dub-edge to work the “boogie” theme in a new way. It is a stretch from the modest album version and is intended to pay homage to this talented band.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/11/17) "It’s My Life” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Talk Talk

ReStructure Mix Update (8/11/17) "It’s My Life” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Talk Talk

Talk Talk brought a 80s synth-pop masterpiece titled “It’s My Life” in 1984 – produced by Tim Friese- Greene. The mid-80s was an experimental period where disco/dance beats became the foundation in a new delivery and state. Electronic music was becoming the efficient and effective nature to release a track in lesser the time. Talk Talk had formed in 1981 and this single became the echo of the bands and its sound. A very moody and dream-like sound with lyrics that suggest a realization of life and the love that beckons for appreciation.

I have taken the US 12” version and recreated a ReStructure Mix to give a nice reminder of the arc in disco history when dance music evolved once again. The dance single version beautifully remixed by Steve Thompson who conquered the full identity of the track. This ReStructure Mix takes the whole pie and once again presents an alternative arrangement and force to get lost to.

ReStructure Mix Update (8/7/17) "Shoot Your Shot” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Divine

ReStructure Mix Update (8/7/17) "Shoot Your Shot” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Divine
Divine is a disco “must”. His persona is what cult disco is all about. A combination of camp, glitter, outrageousness and fabulous beats make these recordings a classic piece of disco history. Producer Bobby Orlando painted a raw and edgy backdrop for Divine and let the glam go. “Native Love (Step By Step)” from 1982 is the first single I can remember hearing for the first time and never let go of this sound. It was the start of high energy and a hold on the disco sound. “Shoot Your Shot” is more like the dreamy feel of disco with the 2 elements – drums and synthesizer – like fire and water.

I have taken the 12” version of “Shoot Your Shot” and recreated a ReStructure Mix that plays out like a Saturday night dance floor sweat competition. I have taken more of the recognizable pieces and parts and resembled it with a focus on the energy and mood. This one loops and phases its way into the peak hour.
