"Boogie Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Claudja Barry

"Boogie Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Claudja Barry

Claudja Barry brought dance floors many flavors of "boogie" - from "Sweet Dynamite" in 1976 to "Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes" in 1978. All with the magic created for dance floors and her fabulous and iconic persona.

"Boogie Tonight" is from Claudja's 1978 album "I Wanna Be Loved By You" and was the second release from the project. It is the mellow-side of Claudja's hypnotic vocal and sexy delivery. It has the formula of New York disco and the sophistication of the pop-Euro sound.

I have taken the 12" version and gave a ReStructure Mix to add a new dimension of beats and groove to this fantastic number. Break out the fake-furs and high heels - it is time to "boogie tonight"!

“Muscles” by Diana Ross – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Muscles” by Diana Ross – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Diana Ross released her 1982 album “Silk Electric” in 1982 – the Andy Warhol cover set the album with a style and artistic taste. Michael Jackson worked with Diana Ross and the single “Muscles” – as writer and producer. This was a nice return for Diana to sing not only about a hedonism theme – but also a breathy and sensual vocal.

I have taken the 1977 documentary film, “Pumping Iron” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno and Matty Ferrigno to create an orgy of muscles to move along with the dance track. It is a bit camp and we see so many biceps and triceps that we can almost feel like the man on the beach whose date gets sand kicked in their face by the bully. It does give us a chance to see Arnold in his glory long before he became the 38th governor of California and a scandal with his own maid and wife. Arnie, get it together!

"Phonic" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Cerrone

"Phonic" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Cerrone

Cerrone released his single "Trippin' On The Moon" on Malligator with a B-side piece titled "Phonic" in 1981 - the track was a short piece which always reminded me of a sci-fi film theme with the cross-over of a Space (Didier Marouani) sound. A bit haunting.

As no Cerrone track should be left un-turned, I have taken the short 3 and half minute track and played with it to revive that early electro-sound of Cerrone in the early 80s as he shifted from the full-orchestration and funky band feel to an 80s appeal. This ReStructure plays wi the catchy keyboard parts and haunting keyboard refrains.

“Medley: ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.-‘America’” by The Ring – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Medley: ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.-‘America’” by The Ring – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The Ring is a disco project from producer/arranger Marcus Barone. A club hit in 1979 titled “Savage Lover” brought on the LP by the same name in 1981. The electronic blend of electronic disco for a club feel offered some interesting tracks. One of my favorites is a medley which features “Theme from “Man From U.N.C.L.E.” a 60s secret agent television series and also “America” from the musical “West Side Story” from 1961.

I have blended the original media sources for this Disco Video Mix to create a fast and furious drama and dance piece that works with the down beat piano of The Ring quite well.

“Give Me A Break” by The Ritchie Family – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Give Me A Break” by The Ritchie Family – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The Ritchie Family are the ladies who made disco music feel ominous and forever. The true essence of attitude and energy which, disco music created in the mid and late 70s. Their 1980 hit, “Give Me A Break” is a track from the film “Can’t Stop The Music” – and also gave them the opportunity to hit the big screen in all of their beauty and sass.

I have taken the disco hit and blended it with the 1979 film “Norma Rae” starring Sally Fields and Beau Bridges – the drama that tells the story of a factory worker in a small town who fights for employee rights and health rights and fight to unionize her shop. It is one of the memorable moments in film history for both Sally Fields and outlining a woman’s power and success.

“Ride It” by Hot Posse – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Ride It” by Hot Posse – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Hot Posse is a disco project from producer Douglas Goldman. The track “Ride It” was featured on “Prime Cuts 1 – The Double Dance Album” from 1981. The group later released a single titled “An American Dream (Medley)” also produced by Goldman along with Boys Town Gang producer Bill Motley – and features Patrick Cowley on synthesizers. It was the San Francisco disco movement creating a new brand of dance material for those who were still ready to dance.

I have taken the 1994 film “Bad Girls” starring Drew Barrymore, Madeline Stowe, Andie MacDowell and Mary Stuart Masterson – the film outlines four former prostitutes on the run following a justifiable homicide and a prison escape during the old Wild West. The female outlaws play the sensual feel of the double entendre disco number.

“How Much, How Much, I Love You” by Love & Kisses – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“How Much, How Much, I Love You” by Love & Kisses – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Love & Kisses is one of the early Euro-disco groups of 1977 from Alec R. Costandinos. The three album group set precedence during a period where disco music was becoming the sound which dancers and music lovers were clamoring for. The full symphonic experience of the dance floor became the excitement of this period.

“How Much, How Much, I Love You” comes from the second project from 1978 and is one of the sweetest disco experiences to date – giving any dancer the freedom to feel lighter than disco air. I have taken the 1954 comedy/musical “Seven Brides For Seven Brothers” starring Jane Powell and Howard Keel and blended the wonderful dance sequences with this disco gem. The story of an Oregon woodsman who takes a bride and soon find his six brothers also desire brides for themselves. It works magic with the disco-swirl.

“Rock The Box” by Sylvester – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Sylvester released his album “M-1015” in 1984 with the first single “Rock The Box” and his salute the New York break-beat sound. The track was produced by Ken Kessie and Morey Goldstein and on the San Francisco disco label Megatone Records. The track had Sylvester’s vocal outlining a generation of street dancers moving to a new sound in his own style.

I have taken the 1984 musical, “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo” and set the pace with plenty of the breakdancing and excitement which began a whole new phase of dance music in the early and mid-80s.

B.T. Express is Barbara Joyce, Bill Risbrook, Billy Nichols, Carlos Ward, Dennis Rowe, Leslie Ming, Louis Risbrook, Michael Jones, Richard Thompson, Sam Taylor, Terrell Wood and Wesley Hall Jr. - an early 70s funk-disco band. Their mark is evident with hits like "Express", "Does It Feel Good To You" and "Do It (Till You're Satisfied)".

I have taken the 12" version of "Do It (Till You're Satisfied)" and created a ReStructure Mix - adding a few loose elements samples and more reason to "do-it"!

"I Ain't Never" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Issac Hayes

Isaac Hayes is the artist who helped to formulate the Memphis-soul-sound in the late 60s and early 70s. He is best known in disco circles with his big 1971 hit, "Shaft" - which made the wah-wah guitar a staple of disco music.

His venture into the late 70s with disco club music included his big hit "Don't Let Go" from 1979. In 1980 his LP "And Once Again" brought the bass and beat together with his single "I Ain't Never". It is presented here in a ReStructure Mix.

A few surprises in this play on Isaac's production including a guest appearance from his "Chef" character from "South Park" and some hard driving loops to make the groove even more infectious!

"Tryouts For The Human Race" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Sparks

Sparks is Ron Mael and Russell Mael - one of the early 70s pop-rock bands and in the late 70s and early 80s synth-disco icons. Their work with Giorgio Moroder on their 1979 album "No. 1 In Heaven" gave them the creativity to inject their boy-rock vocals over a wall of electronic dance tracks. The same year they created a classic disco album with vocalist Noel ("Dancing Is Dangerous").

I have taken the 12" of "Tryouts For The Human Race" and created a new ReStructure Mix - grabbing the classic Moroder sounds and pieces along with the boys to force a new experience for this play on society and fantasy.

Cissy Houston is one of disco music's pioneers and also a vocalist who has provided accompaniment to many artists including Jimi Hendrix, Roberta Flack, The Rascals, Paul Simon - and also disco groups Bionic Boogie, Love Childs Afro Cuban Blues Band, Michael Zager Band and Charlie Calello Orchestra.

Cissy's solo career left a huge mark on dance floors with her hit, "Think It Over" from the album with same title - produced by Michael Zager. I have taken "You're The Fire" from her 1980 album "Step Aside For A Lady" and have given it a ReStructure Mix. The song is the closest to a sweet ballad - with a disc beat and feel!

"Shut Out/Heaven Is A Disco" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Paul Jabara

Paul Jabara is one of disco music's early risers - and created a world of upbeat and disco-beat driven music which would change the 70s. His first album titled, "Shut Out" from 1977 is a project which featured the title track written by Mr. Bob Esty and produced by Arthur G. Wright and Marc Paul Simon.

The medley features 4 tracks - where I have extracted the first two parts: "Shut Out" and "Heaven In A Disco" - combining them in a new ReStructured medley. This piece from the album features guest vocals from the upcoming-Disco Queen, Donna Summer - with her incredible range and effect.

I have re-arranged the tracks to create a new blended mix with the ReStructure touch. This new version is dedicated to a man and his talent who changed my world - Mr. Bob Esty! Thank you, Bob And also, Mr. Paul Jabara.

“In New York” by Passion – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Passion is a disco group from producer, composer and arranger Ray Martinez featuring Richard Noriega Jr.. “In New York” is from the project “Passion” from 1979 released on the New York disco label Prelude Records. This number is one of the disco anthems which have the Miami flair which made disco music successful in the mid and late 70s.

I have taken the song and blended it in this Disco Video Mix with the 1977 film by Martin Scorsese, “New York, New York” starring Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli. The paring of the two titles and the story line of a romance between a singer and a musician in New York in 1945. The drama and performance sequences from Liza Minnelli add to the power of the disco track.

Fantastique is a disco project from The Netherlands - with Marian Pijnaker and Cor van der Hoogt - although vocals on "Mama Told Me" were performed by Astrid Leuwener and Dick Van Dam. The group had one album and various singles which were in the 80s high energy - electronic disco vein.

I have taken the 12" of "Mama Told Me" and created a ReStructure Mix extended the fun-and-frolic of the song - and adding a few elements to give it a swing and "hoe-down" feel. It is great 80s disco in arena which made dance floors feel as though they were back in "Funky Town"!

“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. Larue released his fourth album “Forces Of The Night” in 1979- produced, arranged and conducted by Mr. Bob Esty. A disco treat with the full “force” of disco music during its peak. “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is the love anthem from this project and is also one of the moments for D.C. to comfort us with an assuring vocal during any uncertainty. It is one of my favorite songs of the time and also a moment to release that soaring spirit of love.

I have taken a strange twist on the song and blended it with the 1982 film, “Poltergeist” – starring Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. It is one of the most haunting horror films and delightfully edged with producer Steven Spielberg’s humorous touch. The disco flight moves well with the emotional and ghostly scenes.

The film was directed by Tobe Hooper (of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” fame)

"Give Me Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Shannon

"Give Me Tonight" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Shannon

Shannon (Brenda Shannon Greene) set the 80s on fire with "Let The Music Play" a brand of New York electro-funk which is know as "The Shannon Sound". This beat-and-kick formula utilizes the scratch mix in more ways than one.

"Give Me Tonight" is the second single from Shannon's debut album and as big - if not bigger - than "Let The Music Play". The sound of the 80s is all hear and may bring back more than you can handle.

I have taken the 12" vocal and dub version to give this song a ReStructure Mix and re-funk the mix with some new elements and emphasizing the work of the original.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Mr. Bob Tiedemann - who I thank for his support and for this request! Go get it, Bob - tonight!

"Give Me Your Body" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Lime

"Give Me Your Body" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Lime

Lime is Denis and Denyse LePage - the duo that set dance floors back into motion and paved the way for 80s high energy with their 1980 hit, "Your Love". Although, Denis was no stranger to disco music - he had arranged many projects in the late 70s and continued to grow and innovate disco with his electronic music.

"Give Me Your Body" is from Lime's third album titled "Lime 3" - another big move for the duo who never seemed to disappoint our ears or feet. I have the album version of "Give Me Your Body" and have applied my ReStructure Mix method to this lovely track. It is the love song of the time - or at least it was on my dance floor: the nights of seeing couples holding each other as if they were moving to a ballad - that's just how lovely it is.

Dedicated to the Lady of Lime - Ms. Denyse LePage. It is that time again Denyse and I thank you for your wonderful talent and your beautiful view on the music even today.

“Bewitched” by Polly Brown – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Bewitched” by Polly Brown – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Polly Brown is a singer from Birmingham, England who began recording in 1975 with her first LP “Special Delivery” – produced by Gerry Shury and Phillip Swern. Her single, “Up In A Puff Of Smoke” made it to #16 in the US charts. Her 1980 single “Bewitched” – which is a cover of a show tune from the 1940 Rogers and Hart musical, Pal Joey was a minor disco hit. At the time, I admired the return a pure disco arrangement – it is still one of my favorites!

I have taken the 12” of the track and blended it appropriately with the 2005 film “Bewitched” starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell – the film is a comedy-romance story based on the 60s television show, “Bewitched” – with some reality adjusting. It flows along with Polly’s sultry and lovely vocal which always reminded me of a Diana Ross-esque sound.

"Gimme Your Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Alma Faye

Alma Faye is one of the voices of disco musics which brings to mind and emotional and soulful experience. Her album "Doin' It" from 1979 is one of the great marker in the disco era. The album was produced by Dominic Sciscente and Michel Daigle - who also brought us Black Light Orchestra and Space Project.

I have taken the album version of "Gimme Your Love" and have rearranged and added some minor production to give Alma another chance to work her magic on your hearts and feet. This track is accentuated by a few samples from Star City's "I'm A Man".

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Nick and Lindsay - and special thanks as always to their support and kindness. Also, the knowledge of these special women of disco who have made our worlds beautiful and more lovely. Thank you, boys!

"Higher" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Vivian Vee

Vivian Vee is a disco chanteuse who made dance floors jump with her big hit, "Give Me A Break" from 1979 - produced by Claudio Simonetti and Giancarlo Meo (Easy Going, The Mask, Capricorn, Kasso). Vivian's third album titled "With Vivian Vee" was a nice touch for 1983 dancers - more of an electro-funk approach on most cuts and the flowing Italo-disco sound as in "Higher".

I have taken the album version of "Higher" and have given it a rework with this ReStructure Mix - taking the verses out and placing them among some loops and fun with the percussion and awesome synthesizers and sequencers. It was always a favorite early morning track for me and was great fun to remix.

"Primitve World" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patrick Cowley

"Primitve World" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patrick Cowley

Patrick Cowley breathed new life into synthesizers and electronic music as Giorgio Moroder created in the early and mid-70s during his work in the late 70s. Cowley's work with Brenda Mitchell's "Body Party" in 1978 and Michelle's "Disco Dance" in 1977 were only segues his classic remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" in 1979. His touch labeled as "Mega" was accentuated in his own track "Megatron Man" in 1981.

From his 1982 album (and finale) "Mind Warp" comes the segment "Primitive World" - which is a play of Cowley's electronic effects and sequenced drums. Into a tribal-like fusion of chants and rhythm.

I have taken the album version and clipped and looped the track into a whole new adventure - with Raquel Welch in that loin cloth in mind. A new ReStructure Mix is to salute Mr. Cowley and his short-lived but highly "worshiped" and adored work.

"Ecstasy" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Madleen Kane

Madleen Kane moved disco music into a chic and sensual mode with her 1978 album, "Rough Diamond" - it was what disco music was all about. Her music was always accepted widely on dance floors with it's sultry and sophisticated edge.

Her 1985 album "Cover Girl" was produced by UK high energy producer, Ian Anthony Stephens (Hazell Dean, Marsha Raven, The Flirtations) and San Francisco's disco giant, Paul Parker. It was once again the touch that gave that sparkle to disco's Goddess of Sensuality.

I have taken the track "Ecstasy" and have given it the ReStructure touch using the sexy elements and samples to make it fit into a new realm. And also adding a little cameo from another sexpot who will ask that question which falls into the remix perfectly!

WHAM! Is the British duo from 1981 – George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley who made the 80s a bubbly and fun place to dance. Much of the music from the group was set in the timeline of the music video era and crossover from disco to then dance-pop.

“Club Tropicana” is from their first album titled “Fantastic” from 1983 – produced by George Michael and Steve Brown. “Eyes” by Donna Summer – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Donna Summer released her album “Cats Without Claws” in 1984 – produced by Michael Omartian. The project was an electronic pop sound with a sound from Donna that depicted a mature and voice working in a new direction. Although much of album was directed at dance material there was a slight-rock edge to many of the cuts.

I have taken the song “Eyes” from the project and worked it into this Disco Video Mix along with the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock suspense masterpiece, “Rear Window” starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. The film was based on a short story titled “It Had To Be Murder” by Cornell Woolrich. The song was always a favorite since it had Donna wondering among the sleaze sound in her sensual panther-like approach – this time with more of a rock-edge.

The film was directed by Alfred Hitchcock

"No One Home In The City" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Suzi Lane

Suzi Lane is a singer and model from 1979 who brought "Ooh, La La" whole new meaning - chic disco. Along with producer Giorgio Moroder a classic disco project remains one of grandest of dance floor pieces from this year.

"No One Home In The City" is a track from the album which sounds much like the Donna Summer theme tracks from a disco storybook. This time around Suzi takes the track to a lonely home where the nightlife is calling a soul into the arena to find love, mystery and excitement. "Some one must be home..." to take this fabulous diva out!

I have ReStructured this track - extending and looping parts to give it a new meaning and message again - it is one of Moroder's top level productions and along with Suzi it is irresistible!

Ronny was a French model in the mid-70s and later began writing her own songs and performing in a Paris club. “Show Me Yours” by Corruption – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Corruption is disco music producers, Barry Blum and John Hedges – who also gave us Lisa (“Jump Shout" ) and Shawn Benson (“Seclusion" ). Vocals on Corruption are Catherine Beckwith and Lynn Ray. “Show Me Yours” is their only single released in 1981 – featured on “Prime Cuts 1 – The Double Album” and also Disconet – Volume 4 Program 3. It is a haunting electronic dance track which kicks energetically and leaves a strong resonance.

I have taken the mood from the mystical and haunting edge of the song and blended it with a 1972 horror/thriller titled. “Blood Orgy of The She-Devils”. The film is a campy flick which centers on the world of witchcraft and mystifying rituals. Max Berlin's "World Wide Party" is one of the disco trax from 1979 which played out like a dance floor anthem. Giving plenty of of the drawn out disco mix which dancers clamored for. Accentuating the disco beat with drums, percussion and synths - driving feet from one side of the dance floor to the other.

Jean Pierre Cerrone is noted to be brother of Jean Marc Cerrone ("Supernature", "Love in 'C' Minor", etc.) and also is known for his first project titled, "Disco Dream".

I have taken the US LP release on Emergency Records - using both sides of the medley's - chopping and trimming down some of the groovin' segments with some new breaks and arrangement.

“Moonlight Lovin’ (Menage A Trois)” by Isaac Hayes – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Isaac Hayes made soul music easy to understand with his compositions and sensual and soulful renditions of musical ecstasy. His 1977 album “New Horizon” was the disco approach for Hayes’ fantastic style and talent growing from the roots up. Along with the assistance of Mr. Tom Moulton this project become one of the most sexy and disco-driving soundtracks even today.

I have taken the track “Moonlight Lovin’ (Menage A Trois)” and have blended it with the 1982 romance film by Randal Kleiser – starring Peter Gallagher, Daryl Hannah and Valerie Quennessen. Donna Summer moves her mystique of The Queen of Disco into the 80s by working on her perfected vocals for a new direction. Her 1984 album "Cats Without Claws" - produced and arranged by Michael Omartian is one of her most powerful vocal projects. As Donna was in search to refine her talent these recordings proved satisfaction for those who understood her real talent.

My ReStructure Mix of "I'm Free" from this album is worked to create a new interpretation and echo of her past sound which never let - it was only enhanced.

“Benihana” by Marilyn Chambers – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Benihana” by Marilyn Chambers – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Marilyn Chambers is an actress who started in adult films in the mid-70s. Her turn in the recording industry was a project with Michael Zager titled “Benihana” in 1977. The track emphasized the sensual feel of disco music and a funky groove. Marilyn literally performed her sexy-purr and rouse as if it were an adult film role.

I have taken the 2005 film “Memoirs Of A Geisha” and blended some of the visual elements of the film adaption and created a new outline for both the disco track and the cinema shots.

The film was directed by Rob Marshall

“La Cucaracha” by Eastside Connection – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“La Cucaracha” by Eastside Connection – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Eastside Connection is a disco band from Los Angeles, California releasing five 12” singles from 1976 – 1979. Their first single is a disco version of the Spanish folk corridor from the Mexican Revolution – “La Cucaracha” – the song is about a cockroach that has lost one of its six legs and is struggling to walk with the remaining five. Quite strange?

The disco version is produced by Eddie Davis and has a strange eerie mood – which brings me to this “even stranger” Disco Video Mix – I have taken the 1975 William Castle horror flick, “Bug” and mixed the two in this weird little cult-like feature.

The horror film is the story of a small town and after an earthquake opened the ground a prehistoric specimen of cockroach that can ignite fires from rubbing their hind legs together causes havoc. And if this is not enough, a local mad-scientist begins to experiment with the bug and creates a flesh eating off spring that can fly!

Okay, this is my strange sense of humor.

"S.O.S. Fire In The Sky" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Deodato

"S.O.S. Fire In The Sky" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Deodato

Eumir Deodato De Almedida is a talented Brazilian composer, arranger, and musician who began recording in 1964. His work most know to disco-lovers are his productions with Kool & The Gang ("Ladies Night") and his own projects: "Whistle Bump", "Night Cruiser", "Shazam!", etc.

"S.O.S. Fire In The Sky" is a track from Deodato's 1984 album "Motion" - which once again points to his keyboard genius in creating sounds and elements which wind -up the disco energy and funk style of the 80s. His work in this 80s dance track are another movement of his work surviving another generation of dancers and music connoisseurs.

I have taken the 12" "Disarmamix" and have given it a new ReStructure Mix to pump some of the energy the song has always relayed to me - it is quite beautiful when you hear the vocal and understand the message of the needed love for this soul.
