A blend of disco's music most futuristic and funky dance numbers. This recording in from a party I played at in 1988 - a friend named, Eddie was the birthday boy. He was a big fan of space movies and television shows. I decided to blend a few disco tunes that were out-of-the-way odd and dealing with science fiction. Along with some closing pop material for the guests. It was a success for that night - even for the droid who showed up in a robot garb made of boxes and wiring - quite an interesting night. I hope you will enjoy kicking back and entering another dimension with me.

"Fear" by Easy Going - Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Easy Going – “Fear” – The Video
Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Video Produced by Ken Emmons
1979
Produced by Giancarlo Meo

“Fear” was an Italian production with an innovative feel for dance floors during its release. The robotic feel along with the vocoder generated lead vocals create an electro feel and hypnotic transition. I have taken the LP version and a 1973 horror film, “Torso” – directed by Sergio Martino and created a new meaning to the song. The film “Torso” was a Carlo Ponti production and was added to the slasher film list of the 70’s. More eroticism was added to utilize the cast including Suzy Kendall (“To Sir, With Love”) and many other Italian beauties (men and women) in this psychosexual thriller. It also contains of the most squeamish moments of suspense at the end of the film which I used a climax for the video.

I Don't Know What I'd Do (If You Ever Left Me) - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Sweet Cream

• I Don't Know What I'd Do (If You Ever Left Me) - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Sweet Cream
From their LP "Sweet Cream and Other Delights" this single became an underground club hit - although many not remember the song until they hear the chorus it has such potential as a classic. The guitar tracks are truly the funkiest and along with the fantastic vocal ensemble make the song linger on and on. The main vocal is sang with a great energy and a relaxed soulful tone. Works like magic. I have broken the song into parts and used several loops to provid a new approach at dancing to this crafty little number.

Thank to the magic man, DJ Joey Luciano in New York for giving the request and welcome him to Disco 935!

For Your Love - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chilly

• For Your Love - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chilly

One of the most incredible events of the disco era was Chilly's "For Your Love" - in 1978 this single was the biggest surprise to dance floors. A remake of The Yardbirds classic hit many audiophiles belive this disco version is more pleasing than the original. How often does this happen? Arranged and produced by Bernt Morhrle. "For You Love" mixes a rock style and soulful vocal over a string, synth percussion and string arrangment that is perfection. I have thought about a ReStructure Mix in the past but was always reluctant to touch this one - well here is a new arrangement with some added gagetry and loops to make this song another great trip!

Oooh, What A Life - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gibson Brothers

• Oooh, What A Life - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gibson Brothers

The success of their hit, "Cuba" opened the doors for Gibson Brothers in 1979. And after a outstanding 12" remix, "Que Sera Mi Vida (If You Should Go)" became another huge dance floor hit and now classic. A third single from the LP "Cuba" was "Oooh, What A Life". After thinking over what our present times were I thought this cut was appropriate for a ReStructure Mix and rejuvenation. Music has the power to heal. Just as words and thoughts. This piece of wonderful outlook and promise bring to mind a positive era of love and peace. I could not think of a better time to use it.

Produced by Daniel Vangarde and the wonderful vocals of Gibson Brothers!

From 1983 – 1986 I was living in Los Angeles, California and spinning nightly at a Levi-Leather bar notoriously called, Spike. The bar would remain open until 6am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Some of my most exciting and adventurous mixing was during this period. I enjoyed spinning music after 2 am when all of the alcohol was taken away and the music was what got you high. I had a great time mixing some great old classic disco during this period and found it very much appreciated.

Anyone who visited Spike during this time knew how incredible the experience was – especially the music. I want to thank the bar manager, Vince at the time who would come up to the booth every 15 – 20 minutes and say, “Bang em’ to the wall!” He always wanted them to be pulled into the energy of the music, and then slowly let down a few levels – and then back up again. It was the most incredible programming experience of my spinning career. Everyone was listening to the music.

This mix is dedicated in memory of my co-DJ from Spike, John Riles – his energy is still around me.

Hot Leather - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Passengers

• Hot Leather - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Passengers

In 1979 disco was shifting. A new vision was being explored and much of the creativity was being laid in the minds of the producer and artists. Celso Valli was a man who pulled much of what was happening in the mid seventies with synthesizers and arrangements together. The birth of a new sound featuring the orchestral feel of disco and a new synthetic formula. As he did with Macho, Tantra and several other ingenious productions he made Passengers a very carefully executed brain child. "Hot Leather" is the forerunner of this set - by researching and studying much of this work you can understand how his work is now looked at as classic and perfection. Although pop at the time of its release this is wonderful music to analyze as disco music becomes looked at more closely with time.
I have taken "Hot Leather" and extracted some of the more memorable points and worked a few more breaks into the already pulsating rhythms. A great requests from Hank in Florida - thank you, Hank! It's for you.

Follow Me - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Amanda Lear

• Follow Me - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Amanda Lear

Disco music reached a point when dancing the night away lead to early morning - this was the perfect time for melodic and trancey disco to become of age. Amanda Lear's "Follow Me" was the perfect example of "early morning music". It became an underground classic in 1978 - it was then that Wally McDonald took this track from a medley off of Lear's "Sweet Revenge" LP and transformed it into a swirling and hypnotic charmer. The raw synthesizers and lush strings create an atmosphere that has remained it's own sound. This great song is probably the original of it's kind and also gave Lear the opportunity to use her vocal style in an appropriate manner. This ReStructure takes Wally McDonald's magic and transforms it into a new intro and closing. Building on it's theme and making Amanda more accessible. Thank you Wally for a wonderful experience!

Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gloria Gaynor

• Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gloria Gaynor

Love songs with a disco beat were songs that gave hustle and touch dancers the opportunity to move to a beautiful melody and flowing arrangement. "Love Is Just A Heartbeat Away" from the "Nocturna" soundtrack was such a number. Although the film did not last a long as the 2 big disco numbers from the soundtrack (the other being "Nighttime Fantasy" by Vicki Sue Robinson) it was a film that remains an underground rarity. Gloria Gaynor was a the top of her form here. Her vocals exercise a yearning that can be felt throughout this cut. I have taken the track and added a few more breaks and chorus' to express a new emotion. The cut was produced by Reid Whitelaw and Norman Bergen. Many of the musicians where disco's finest included Don Renaldo on strings and horns and The Sweethearts of Sigma on backup vocals.

Good Times - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chic

• Good Times - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chic

The bass line that lasted for a era and the group that made disco funky. This #1 disco hit is one of the best produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards with the arrangement that was "chic" during the time. A ReStructure revisits the track and place a new emphasis on just how lasting a great song always stays fresh.

Dedicated to Orlando Pontier for the request.

• I Can Tell - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chanson
A band comprised of some powerful musicians of the 80's - Jeff Porcaro and David Paich. James Jamerson Jr. and David Williams produced this LP along with Linda Evans on vocals. A song that builds and builds and the orchestra follows. Wonderful strings and percussion. I have ReStructured the song to break a few times and played on the big drum sound. A hit worth trying out.

I'm Attached To You - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Boris Midney's Masquerade

• I'm Attached To You - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Masquerade

A disco concerto for the children's story "Pinocchio" is what Masquerade is all about. Boris Midney who brought us USA-Eurpoean Connection, Caress, Beautiful Bend, Double Discovery, Nannette Garcia and Festival created a beat driven soundtrack to an imaginary tale of a "funky puppet" who goes looking for love and fines the "Land Of Miracle's" is a cardboard cut out of party, party, party. Sounds good? This track is the song when Pinocchio finds what he thinks is love for the first time - of course we know he has a wooden heart and it takes the rest of his journey to find what he is really in need of. The LP is pretty interesting if you use your feet and your imagination. The master, Boris Midney makes it easy. This ReStructure pulls more of the vocal to the surface and makes a few breaks obvious along the way.
Dedicated to Erwin in East Flanders for helping to keep disco and Midney's magic alive.

Do What You Wanna Do - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Nona Hendryx and The Cage

• Do What You Wanna Do - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Nona Hendryx and The Cage
This one is a cover of the classic by T-Connection originally recorded in 1977 - Nona's cover in 1982 works well with her fantastic vocals and the metal-crush sound of The Cage. This track moves so quickly that you really have to think fast. Although the original is more of a seventies event, this remake is also just a memorable.
Requested by and dedicated to Chris in New Orleans!

Love To Love You Baby - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

• Love To Love You Baby - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer
It was the start of disco ecstasy. It has been said that this classic may have been influenced by Diana Ross' "Love Hangover". There is a difference. This one has the funkiest groove and is laid out flat in this ReStructure Mix. Besides having Donna Summer create a wall of dancing pleasure by emulating a sensual role, it is one of the finest pieces of pop music of the 70's, regardless of it's somewhat controversial outline. Giorgio Moroder and Pete Belotte did the honors in the production along with Moroder's Munich Machine pumping out the groove. This one will last forever and can only be expressed with the proper essence by Donna herself. This one is as high as one can get.

Mr. DJ You Know How To Make Me Dance - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Glass Family

• Mr. DJ You Know How To Make Me Dance - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Glass Family
The sound of pure disco music is based on it's "beats". In 1978 dance music was influenced by earlier producers, vocalists and musicians - many of these talents make up the fusion of disco music. Glass Family was a project produced by Jim Callon who also put together JDC Records Inc. Vocalist Taka Boom (Chaka Khan's younger sister) who appeared on Undisputed Truth's "You + Me" and proved to be a driving force in the crossover of soul and disco styles took over this track and made it a club favorite. The instrumental is a simple mix, yet lays out a great formula to move with. This ReStructure creates a "drop break" oriented feel and makes it easier to find out exactly what Taka is crooning about.

Breaking and Entering - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Dee Dee Sharp Gamble

• Breaking and Entering - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Dee Dee Sharp Gamble
The Philly Sound was a big part of the disco movement in the mid-70's - the last of this sound echoed in hits like "Breaking and Entering" by the one and only Dee Dee Sharp Gamble. This dance master cut was released in 1980. A great production featuring the Sweethearts of Sigma on backup vocals. I have taken this cut by request of Alan and given it more filler with a new rhythm track and a few changes in direction. It is a great song to recognize the shofting of dance music from the late seventies to the new sound of the eighties.

Down, Deep Inside - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

• Down, Deep Inside - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer
John Barry (Jame's Bond Films, Shirley Bassey) was paired with Donna Summer in 1977 to create a theme song for the upcoming film "The Deep". An easy task for Summer at the time - she was on a winning streak. And the results being, "Down, Deep Inside" was the proof. This cut was released as a 12" single to "I Feel Love" as well as the soundtrack. It became one of Donna's most underground hits from it's release until today. The fusion of the Caslypso feel are unique in it's sytnhesized percussion and drive - as if they were made for each other. And along with Donna's sensual style we can experience the best of this time. My ReStructure mix adds more drum tracks along with the original tracks to create an extended and more mysterious sound.
Once again, thanks to Alan and a dedication to all Donna-Tribute.com for the inspiration.

Star Cruiser - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gregg Diamond's Star Cruiser

• Star Cruiser - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gregg Diamond's Star Cruiser
When TK Records hired Gregg Diamond to produce a Bionic Boogie for their label, Diamond did them the favor. This fantastic project came at a time when perfection rang among the disco music of the time. Gregg was responsible for Andrea True Connection, Bionic Boogie, Gloria Gaynor, George McCrae recordings and took his talents into the studio again with an array of talent. Much of music here remains intact with "Star Cruiser" being no exception. Horns, guitars, strings and funky vocals (Gordon Grody, Diva Gray, Jocelyn Brown and Zach Sanders). It's no wonder why Diamond is the underground choice for hard-core disco music before, during and after the boom!
Dedicated to Alan for all of his support, kindness, energy and of course, for asking :)
