“Happy Together” by Terms Of Surrender – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Happy Together” by Terms Of Surrender – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Terms Of Surrender is a track which appeared on a Disconet Program (Volume 5 Program 12) in 1983 and is produced by Mark Berry. This strange and haunting cover of The Turtles 1967 classic takes the love song into a deep and percolating 80s street beat arrangement. Always an early morning/sleaze piece for me and a favorite among those hardcore Disconet followers. The moody sound gives the song a new direction with plenty of the beat box effects to make it stand out as a hidden gem.

I have taken the 1979 horror film “Tourist Trap” into a terrifying twist using Chuck Connors’ character as a mentally disturbed man with telekinetic powers into the eerie disco track. The female interest played by Jocelyn Jones is caught here in the grips of an obsessed killer who desires another lover to add to his mannequin collection. It is a venture that was implemented and paired with the feel of the Terms Of Surrender piece.

“Sorry, Wrong Number” by Evelyn Thomas – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Sorry, Wrong Number” by Evelyn Thomas – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Evelyn Thomas gave dance floors another stage with her powerful vocal delivery and a hardcore Broadway-like disco flair created by Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench. The real peak was Evelyn’s 1984 hit “High Energy” transformed a new dance period with an appropriate title. Many of her singles were in the style which seemed to blend well with the excitement of love and the sorrow of heartbreak. “Sorry, Wrong Number” was released in 1985 and was featured on Evelyn’s 1986 album “Standing At The Crossroads”. Here she puts an end to a bad romance and breakup which seems to appear when no longer needed. A great high energy piece with a catchy melody.

I have taken the 1948 suspense film, “Sorry, Wrong Number” starring Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster – a bit of twisting its story to outline the disco track.
The film noir plays out in a new drama with both heroines saying “goodbye”.

The film was directed by Anatole Litvak

ReStructure Mix Update (2/11/16) “Agent Of Liberty” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mike Mareen

ReStructure Mix Update (2/11/16) “Agent Of Liberty” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Mike Mareen

Mike Mareen is a former drummer who began a career as an electronic dance music artist in the late 70s and then became a favorite in the mid-80s with his big hits “Dancing in the Dark” and “Agent Of Liberty”. His style was a simple blend of hard edged synthesizers pounding out the beat and bass of a disco for the 80s. Many clubs favored his somewhat underground feel and the rolling sound of the heavy bass. This may have been another artist influenced by former masters, Giorgio Moroder and Patrick Cowley.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Agent Of Liberty” to rework a new sound for this heavy duty keyboard dance piece. Using notes and loops from the original sound I have worked on a whole new mission here. It brings the sound back clearly when high energy dance music was taking over dance floors again.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/9/16) “Touch Me (All Night Long)” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Wish featuring Fonda Rae

ReStructure Mix Update (2/9/16) “Touch Me (All Night Long)” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Wish featuring Fonda Rae
Wish is Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams. A venture into a new sound of dance music during the early 80s when a transition to electronic dance was being formulated. A true New York flavor with a touch of the magic that this duo brought to disco in the 70s. On vocals we get a nice sensual treatment from Ms. Fonda Rae who lit a fire with her track “Deputy Of Love” with Don Armando's 2nd Avenue Rhumba Band in 1979 and “You’re Too Late” with Fantasy in 1980. The voice brings this powerhouse funk-vibe to several climatic moments. Quite delicious.

I have taken the 12” single vocal and dub to recreate another moment to find that need which Ms. Rae begs so right for. More of the arrangement is re-segmented to give a new stage to this great production and performance by Fonda. This ReStructure is merely another layer of the groove in a new dance floor blend.

“Right On Target” by Paul Parker – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Right On Target” by Paul Parker – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Paul Parker is a disco artist from the early 80s who brought excitement to dance floors with the release of his first single, “Right On Target” in 1982. Written and produced by Patrick Cowley and released on his Megatone Records label the song reached #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. It was the beginning of a whole new era of dance music and creative edge for dance music. Paul’s sexy performance and vocals made this number a huge classic immediately.

I have created a Disco Video Mix using scenes from the 1965 James Bond series film, “Thunderball” starring Sean Connery. The action and Bond's hard to resist attraction to his female co-stars give the disco track a nice comparison.
