ReStructure Mix Update (10/21/21) “On The Upside” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Xena

Xena is Paula West – a vocalist who stepped into the sound created by producers Chris Barbosa and Mark Liggett – the duo responsible for Shannon’s big hit “Let The Music Play” from 1983. This electro-street beat edge took over dance floors and made a place for the heavy beats and percolating sequencers.  “On The Upside” is another outline with the basics of Shannon’s track with more of the sounds injected as a rhythmic foundation. Very similar yet the sound brings back the period of dance where street beat was alive and making dance floors move in a whole new way.

I have taken the 12” vocal and dub of “On The Upside” and remapped the beats into a new ReStructure Mix. More of the downbeat is used to pull the song into a pattern which guides those thumping beats into a new direction.
