Sylvia Love released her disco track, "Instant Love" in 1979 - produced by Trevor Vallis. Formulated in the D.D. Jackson "Automatic Lover" vein and using similar sequencers to Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" the track became more of an underground sensation.
In the early 80's many of after-hours dance clubs with jocks assembling music that was fitting for dancing before the sun came up were placing this one on rotation. As the years have passed and much of the electronic influence in dance music has and continues to progress it is always interesting to look back at the pioneers who steered us in this direction.
"Queen Of Outer Space" is one of the campiest science fiction takes in 1958 - starring Zsa Zsa Gabor and Eric Fleming leading the adventure. The story line is simple - the planet "Venus" (the planet of love) has kept men away until this a spaceship of 3 eligible bachelors convinces then that a waste of beauty is no good.
This video mix salutes the “Cult Camp Classic” films and also the same sound in disco music, which follows along the outlines.

“Sunset People” by Donna Summer – Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Donna Summer’s “Sunset People” is one of those disco tracks that makes you feel as though something is happening – it caused quite a stir on dance floors. This classic mover is in the tradition of Giorgio Moroder’s progressive keyboard and sequencer sound of the 70’s. After hearing this track – it is no wonder that he is the “Godfather Of Electronic Disco”.
Placing Gloria Swanson along with this dynamite track was an idea I got when a good friend, Charles mentioned that “Sunset Boulevard” would be great to use in a Video Mix. So Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard unite once again in this edit.

From the 1981 LP “Boys Town Gang” featuring Cynthia Manley on lead vocals is the classic-disco track, “Medley:’ Remember Me’/’Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’”. Bill Motley whom was determined to bring back disco to the 80’s with great success produced this track.
I have removed the track, “Remember Me” from the medley and created a stand alone hit and worked closely with Cynthia Manley along with Gary Rader (www.raderfilms.com) and my partner and producer, Ken Emmons to create an emotional and refreshing video.
The video was shot here in San Diego at Presidio Park and features some beautiful shots of the JunÃpero Serra Museum. The interior club shots were shot on March 8th at Dream Lounge – thanks to Rick Shezoray, Johnny Valentino, George Flashback, Al “Liquid” Sky and Tommy Arenas of “Back To Disco” (http://www.backtodisco.com) who allowed us to utilize their club for these shots. If you are in the Los Angeles area, I urge you to check out this club!
Shot on March 22, 2008 (see photos) along with Gary Rader on cameras, Anthony Gioffre as grip and Nancy Raye as assistant to Cynthia.
Thanks to Ken Emmons for allowing me the time and love – Cynthia Manley for her talent and friendship – Gary Rader for his talent and great assistance – Anthony Gioffre, Nancy Raye and the guys from Back To Disco.com

The 1973 science fiction film, “Soylent Green” is paired with the 1979 German disco band hit, “Future World” – a whole new look on the Stanley Greenberg screenplay based on the Harry Harrison novel. The planet is in the “over population” stage and the environment has been effect by the greenhouse effect making the temperature reach unbearable highs.
The film starred Charlton Heston, Leigh Taylor-Young, Brock Peters, Joseph Cotton, Chuck Connors, Paula Kelly and was the last film for Edward G. Robinson.
Although Ganymed’s tune outlines an “Automatic Lover” style lyric, I have paired it with some of “Soylent Green’s” grayish and disturbing scenes to give it a new contrast.
The song was a minor hit here in the US as it appeared at the end of the disco wave – but I understand the band was still a bit hit in Germany and surrounding areas. Their sound was recognizable and in the early 80’s a must for after-hours dancing or drinking. Great synthetic feel.

"One Of A Kind" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer
• "One Of A Kind" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer
From the "Live And More" double record set Donna Summer proved that her music was heart-felt. "One Of A Kind" was a piece from the "MacArthur Park" Medley that never did get the honor to be set aside from the medley on it's own fabulous right. It is a wonderful love song with some of Donna's most incredible vocals.
This close to 9 minute ReStructure pulls those serious and funky keyboards out along with the horns to give the song a new make-up. This one is a another personal favorite which makes any Donna Summer fan recognize that the music has always been the reason why.
Special thanks to Keith Hall in Atlanta for giving me the in site to take this one into the arena.

"Anytime Or Place" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Azoto
• "Anytime Or Place" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Azoto
Dance music has always progressed with new musicians and producers with a background of various styles. Celso Valli began with a studio group titled, Lucrethia And The Azoto 14,008 in 1978 – soon after finding his style of disco he unleashed Azoto as another band effort. This brought forth the LP, “Disco Fizz”. This LP was one of the finest import (to the US) projects to date.
“Anytime Or Place” is the single which received the most play from this selection and well deserved. The cut contains variation of Euro-disco with splashes of Greek touches and wonderful innovative synthesizer tracks. The song seems to become shorter as you grow fonder of the light and sharp arrangement.
I have taken the track into a whole new light with more of the drops and bass tracks adding new percussion to give a lift.
Thank you, Kerim for requesting a ReStructure for Azoto’s “Anytime Or Place” and also sharing your wonderful insight and music.

"Do You Love Me?" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patti Austin
• "Do You Love Me?" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Patti Austin
Patti Austin created quite a stir along with the production of Quincy Jones in 1981 with the LP, “Every Home Should Have One”. The first dance single to breakout onto the clubs was, “Do You Love Me?”
This track was my favorite dance song during this time. With Patti’s incredible vocal and along with Quincy’s outstanding musical genius, this song was an anthem long before they were considered. It is beautifully recorded dance track.
I have revived the music with more looping and repeat of those incredible rhythm guitars (Eric Gale and Steve Lukather) and soft keyboards (Greg Phillinganes – husband to Penny Ford – who is Sharon Redd’s sister). This track smoked from day one and even today sound ominous and just as powerful.
The 80’s may have produced a great track that can even today be as fantastic!
Dedicated to Rick Ashmun for continuing to bring the 80's dance music scene into view.

• "I Wanna Funk With You Tonite" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Giorgio
Giorgio Moroder recorded "Knights In White Satin" in 1976 for Oasis Records (a subsidiary of Casablanca Records) and formulated his Euro-disco sound using his own Munich Machine ensemble. This sound was very similar to many of his productions with Donna Summer, Roberta Kelly and Munich Machine, but somehow managed to capture an essence of it's own. It was producer, arranged, and mixed by Giorgio Moroder
"I Wanna Funk With You Tonite" was the last track from this project and is the topic of this ReStructure - adding more of the funky bass keyboards as the outline for the mix along with song new "thumping".
Thanks to Gary from Baytown, Texas for requesting this ReStructure and this extended mix goes, his way.

Vicki Shepard created a high energy classic in 1989 with a disco cover of Stephen Sondheim’s “Somewhere” – this track manages to resurface in clubs even today. The original release marked a return to high energy basics with a mix by Steven Von Blau. Vocals by Vicki also helped to keep this track alive since it’s release - she is a very talented lady. Taking many of the beautiful visions from the 1998 Polygram film, “What Dreams May Come” with Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra I have piece together these wonderful masterpieces.
Hoping to create an outline for the “gift of life” - this Video Mix is dedicated to the energy that keeps our lives happy and knowing that in our minds we are all where we need to be.

Gregg Diamond produced some of disco’s most prestigious music – from projects by George McCrae, Gloria Gaynor and Andrea True Connection. Some of his best works were his studio productions by Bionic Boogie, Star Cruiser and Hardware. This cut recorded under Hardware is from the LP featuring the single, “Shinin’” which was the only track released as a 12” single.
Being a big fan of Diamond’s productions I found his creativity as a writer to be equally as interesting and "left field" – songs like “Greyhound Bus” were as playful with their words as they were musically. Hardware was more of a disco band style of sound so horns and his vocal ensemble were the focus here. Featuring Diva Gray, Gordon Grody and Jocelyn Brown on vocals as well as jazz musician, David Sanborn on saxophone.
Taking the 1976 film, “The Big Bus” which was a spoof on 70’s disaster films was an idea I got while thinking about the Gregg Diamond track. The film directed by James Frawley (credited with episodes of “That Girl”, “Magnum P.I.” and “The Muppet Movie” among many others) is an uproarious adventure with stars, Joseph Bologna, Stockard Channing, Ned Beatty, John Beck and Ruth Gordon. It is the first spoof on disasters which many mistake, “Airplane” as the forerunner. It was just as cleaver, but probably not as effective as “Airplane’s success. It was the ultimate disaster film parody of a nuclear powered bus is going Non-stop from New York to Denver – but not without a few problems.

"Beat Of The Night" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Fever
• "Beat Of The Night" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Fever
This was the project which may have encompassed all that was disco and everyone who pulled disco throughout the 80's. Featuring Patrick Cowley on synthesizers and Tip Wirrick (Sylvester) on guitar The Waters (Clydene, Julian, and Maxine) on vocals and produced by Dale Reed, Marty Blechman (Megatone Records) and John Hedges (Lisa, Shawn Benson, etc.).
Complete and complex. This LP was a non-stop dancing fest of energy and anything that was "disco". The title cut, "Beat Of The Night" made everyones top 10 list during this time. Released in 1979 on Fantasy Records, this one was a powerhouse and remains one of the top favorite among disco collectors.
I have put off many times ReStructuring "Beat Of The Night" not sure how to polish this one even more. Using the beat track alone to enhance the breaks was my turn without wanting to damage the original sound. Not too much but arranging and looping to keep this one in it's somewhat original form.
Dedicated to DJ Joey Luciano, Kerim, Alan and Rick from "Back To Disco" -long live "The Beat"!

"Fantasy" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Bruni Pagan
• "Fantasy" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Bruni Pagan
Bruni Pagan was an artist/vocalist when after hearing her voice you would wonder why we never heard more from her. She sang in a chorus for Herbie Mann and also disco artist, Venus Dodson and finally a break recording her solo project titled, “Just Bruni” in 1979 which was produced by Al Harrison and Janet Rosenblatt.
“Fantasy” was the first release from the LP and created quite a response for Bruni. Although she never recorded a follow-up project she did record another dance single with Dave Valentin titled “Loquita (Crazy Lady)” which had her signature vocal style.
This ReStructure is intended to break the song down into further parts with more breaks and beats. It is also great to hear Bruni working it, again!

The 1968 science fiction epic, “2001: A Space Odyssey” was my first influence as a child in both film and music. After spotting the soundtrack LP and being fascinated by the cover it became my first album. Soon after seeing the film in Cinerama I was completely in awe of its imagery and mystery.
I have taken the 1976 disco track “The Blue Danube Hustle” by Rice and Beans Orchestra (a disco version of Johann Strauss the Younger’s 1867 composition, also used in “2001”) and transformed it into a montage for scenes from the film. Produced by Pepe Luis Soto (Celi Bee, Roxie) and Tato Rossi
“2001: A Space Odyssey” was known for a “trip” for most young movie goers of the time – I remember hearing stories of youngsters smoking grass and viewing the film for the special effects. It holds a great deal of ideas and technological concepts, which make the film one of the most incredible experiences. I honor both the film and the wonderful waltz piece, “The Blue Danube” for being a gift to us.

• "Nice 'N' Nasty" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Salsoul Orchestra
Vince Montana, Jr. was a ringmaster for this fantastic ensemble of musicians creating New York's Disco Signature Sound - in 1976 the LP "Nice 'N' Nasty" was released featuring the title track along with "Good For The Soul" and "Don't Beat Around The Bush" - this marking the compositions for soul, orchestra and rhythms to merge into a dance craze.
"Nice 'N' Nasty" was another track I over heard being played at "Back To Disco" in Los Angeles this past week and it had all of my imagination moving along for a ReStructure which I dedicate to Ricard Aguirre for his hard work.
"The music cannot go anywhere without you."

ReStructure Update - 3/10/08 - "The Hustle" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Van McCoy
• "The Hustle" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Van McCoy
It did have to start somewhere. And it did in 1976 with one of the most wonderfully arranged disco tracks - it was by Van McCoy and it is called, "The Hustle".
I dedicate this track to Rick, Jorge, John and Sandy of "Back To Disco" (www.backtodisco.com) for their hospitality and kindness this past weekend on our video shoot with Cynthia Manley. Their event was incredible.
If ever you want to return to the great dance floor era of the 70's - check it out! During this evening an entire dance floor of talented line dancers (some originals from American Bandstand) joined in on a wonderful salute to "The Hustle" with a disco-line dance that was exciting and brings back the feeling of how disco music brings people together and the fantastic energy it brings on.
To you, Rick and your staff - always!

In 1977, Dean Koontz’s novel “Demon Seed” was transformed into a sci-fi thriller starring Julie Christie and Fritz Weaver. The story of the supercomputer, Proteus IV taking over one of it’s creators homes and using his wife to have a child of it’s own made a mark in the history of computer styled horror flicks.
Taking Kraftwerk’s progressive synthesizer and keyboard work into a Video Mix gives their track, “It’s More Fun To Compute” an opportunity to give the “Dancing Baby” some competition.

Irvin Kershner’s suspense film, “Eye’s Of Laura Mars” hit theatres in 1978 – it was a very nice combination of mystery, suspense, drama and some great disco music. The soundtrack featured Michael Zager Band’s “Let’s All Chant”, Odyssey’s “Native New Yorker” and KC and The Sunshine Band’s “Shake Your Booty.”
Visions of the film are expressed in this Video Mix with a completely new edge. Boys Town Gang’s disco classic, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” from the 1981 project produced by Bill Motley and sung by Jackson Moore. This music was geared to bring back a high-energy disco sound, which was lacking on major labels following the disco fade of the early 80’s. This is a simple, yet effective result.
The bizarre nature of the theme of “Laura Mars” is put more delicately to Boys Town Gang’s dance floor track with a bit more of Faye Dunaway’s magic presence. It may seem a bit odd but if you think carefully about the story for those who have seen it and understand the meaning, know that it is along the same parallel.
Dedicated to Cynthia Manley and her wonderful talent, which she continues to share with so many with a great heart and attitude.

Music: "Frankie Crocker Presents The Disco Suite Symphony No.1 In Rhythm And Excellence” - The Heart And Soul Orchestra
Music: "Frankie Crocker Presents The Disco Suite Symphony No.1 In Rhythm And Excellence” - The Heart And Soul Orchestra
Casablanca Records
1976
This double LP set was arranged by Gene Page and featured Melvin 'Wah Wah' Watson on guitars, Sonny Burke on piano and produced by Mr. Frankie Crocker.
It may sound as if you are listening to the soundtrack to an episode of “Charlie’s Angels” – this is early disco from 1976. A transitional period when the music of Cerrone’s “Love In ‘C’ Minor” was influencing American productions. Dance floors were demanding more orchestrations and arrangements.
Although not much is memorable here, but Crocker’s affiliation it is still a wonderful trip back to the days when disco music was being formulated and experimental.

From the 1974 Brian DePalm film “Phantom Of The Paradise” is footage used for the 1992 Harajuku techno/dance track “Phantom Of The Opera”.
A match made for each others dramatic sound and visuals. The horror-thriller/musical film was a strange but great rock interpretation of the classic “Phantom” story. And now brought together with some of the most stunning scenes.
The Harajuku track was released on Dance Street Records and produced by The Really Useful Group – it is a cover of the Andrew Lloyd Webber piece.

In 1988, I had the privilege of meeting artist and performer, Sharon Redd – it was through her manager, Ruth Carson and I thank her so much to this day.
Sharon agreed to take a weekend and spend it with a few friends to work on a few amateur videos using a few of her great songs (“Beat The Street”, “We’re Friends Again” and “Love Insurance”). I was using a Betamax camera and the original editing was done of 2 VHS decks – wow! Now it has been remastered and re-edited.
This is the closing chapter of the now DVD project – it is following the shoot of “Love Insurance” at Presidio Park in San Diego.
Sharon is a beautiful soul – her passing in 1992 was sad. The fact that we have her music to mark her talent and life is wonderful. I still celebrate Ms. Redd as many do with her fantastic music. This footage shows how gracious she was and how “big” my 80’s hair was! (AND HOW TIGHT THOSE LEVIS WERE!!!)
Posted for Kerim – thank you posting Sharon’s music and the dedication.

"Cherchez Pas" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Madleen Kane
• "Cherchez Pas" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Madleen Kane
Jean-Claude Friederich produced Madleen Kane's third project titled, "Sounds Of Love" - another great disco LP from the sexy and beautiful Swedish songstress. The track "Cherchez Pas" was the first single hit the clubs - it was like the rebirth of disco all over again. The blaring horns and the nice touch of "wiry" guitars created a wall of energy under Madleen's sultry vocals. I can recollect that many people would approach my booth asking if this were Deborah Harry singing the song.
"Cherchez Pas" in French means, "To Be Without" - I believe she is singing about how incomplete her life would be without that special someone next to her in the discotheque.
The track is being divided in this ReStructure to give it a more underground disco feel - with some exploding to accent the power of these breaks.
Dedicated to the guys at Multiply whose love for disco music is the best I have seen.

"A Dance Fantasy" - Inspired by "Close Encounters of The Third Kind" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Montana
• "A Dance Fantasy" - Inspired by "Close Encounters of The Third Kind" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Montana
Disco covers of major films were quite a standard during the 70's - beginning with Meco's cover of "Star Wars". Vincent Montana, Jr. (billed as Montana) worked heavily during the disco era creating a fantastic sound of full orchestrations with a disco beat. Creating what would be known as the Euro-disco influence on American disco artists.
"A Dance Fantasy" is a project which takes movements from John Williams score from "Close Encounters" and weaves a funky and beautiful medley. I have focused more on the Sister Sledge vocals in the closing of the original project with, "When You Wish Upon A Star" and also the wonderful sitars of the "Mexican Desert" theme. Adding just a touch of percussion to spice up the fluent track.
This was requested by Vic from SHADES OF SEVENTIES site - thank you, Vic.

In 1981 a film based on accounts from Carla Moran’s experiences with an unknown source is “The Entity”. The film was a good depiction of the possibilities of a negative energy crossing the parallel of human life. It was a very spooky outline and based on actual events.
Belgium New-Beat artist, Zsa Zsa LaBoum on Kaos Dance Records in 1988 – Produced by S.M. - this track is a strange one, but not too distant if you had any knowledge of the new beat dance movement in the late 80’s. Most tracks outlined intense synthesizers, weird subjects and play on words. I personally found it very interesting and innovative. From New Beat came Techno and Rave music.
“Something Scary” is an eerie tune – enough to give you goose bumps. The samples from “The Entity” – using Barbara Hershey’s voice, “I was alone in my room...Something grabbed me, and smothered me.” This always remained in my mind from the first time hearing it back in 1988 to someday create the outline for a video using excerpts – here it is. You will hear the word “acid” repeated constantly throughout – this influenced by the Acid House style of music, which is the predecessor of New Beat.
A bit on the dark-side it works the realm of the sound of New Beat in a mysterious way. Once again, the transition of dance from disco to where it is today encompasses many genres of dance music – this is one of them.
