Paul McCartney teamed up with producers Trevor Horn, Stephen Lipson and Shep Pettibone to dive into the underground sound of house music in 1989. This electronic track plays with deep bass and plenty of the ricocheting effects that bring back the early 80’s experimental period where bands like Art Of Noise weaved a new path. Paul works his end with a French vocal asking where is the “sun”? It is an abstract piece which displays Pettibones mixing genius along with Lipson and Horn’s never ending creative edge.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Ou Est Le Soleil” and recreated a new outline for this ReStructure Mix. More of the electronic pieces are used and chopped into new bits for this track.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/29/24):”Exalt-Exalt” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Azoto

Azoto is an Italian disco project created by producer/arranger Celso Valli. “Disco Fizz” is the title of their 1979 album which features many noteworthy hits including “Anytime Or Place” and “San Salvador”. The production is a full on disco ensemble with Valli’s touch of electronics which bring out the end of the 70’s disco sound with a force. “Exalt-Exalt” is a track from the project which is quite mystical in its own sound. The robotic sequencers pound out the rhythm while an operatic chorus delivers the outline of the celebration here. It is one of the best works of Celso Valli and displays a time where American disco has ceased to flourish and the Italians help to keep it alive throughout the 80’s.

I have taken the album version of “Exalt-Exalt” and worked a new angle to pay tribute to this number for this ReStructure Mix. I have used the fluent sequencers in several new ways to create new breaks and segments for this remix.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/28/24):”Meeting In The Ladies Room” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Klymaxx

Klymaxx is Bernadette Cooper, Cheryl Cooley, Joyce "Fenderella" Irby, Lorena Shelby, Lynn Malsby, Rayn Jackson, and Robbin Grider. This ensemble of ladies were one of the mainline funk groups of the mid-80’’s. Their 1984 hit “Meeting In The Ladies Room” is one of the surface tracks which outline what these ladies are all about. The funky beat tracks combine street-beat and electronic funk masterfully. The song outlines the problems with ladies keeping their men underwraps in a club full of adoring women. It is played out in a comical sense which gives the song its lasting feel and with the playout of rhythm it still hits the target. Produced by Bo Watson and Vincent Calloway.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Meeting In The Ladies Room” and revived the funk for this ReStructure Mix. I have used the existing beats and rhythm to outline a new story for this club escapade.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/26/24):”U.F.O. Love Encounter” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Range

Range is an Italo-disco project from Paul Mazzolini (aka Gazebo) and Natasha Maimone. Their 1981 single “Give Me” featured a B-side titled “U.F.O. Love Encounter” which is the focus of this ReStructure Mix. The track has some of the same funky guitar work and galaxy-like keyboard work which centers on two aliens meeting for the first time and planning a rendezvous. The piece has some great keyboard riffs and bass effects and gives off a nice aura of disco magic. Although this is the flip side I always loved hearing the space-theme take off.

I have used the 12” version of “U.F.O. Love Encounter” and worked it in pieces again for this ReStructure Mix. The new intro lays out a lengthier fade in and more of the cosmic theme is presented in a new arrangement.

Joe Jackson is a British musician who released his project titled “Night and Day” in 1982 along with the single “Steppin’ Out”. The single was a bi success with its fast paced bass sequencer leading the nightlife fantasy and how much we long for it. One of the bg crossover songs of its time as it fit into the pop-nu wave categories as well as the adult contemporary with its striking piano crescendos. A great 80’s song to reminisce on the flow of pop music and how various influences continues to bring on new sounds.

I have taken the extended version of “Steppin’ Out” and worked to play out a new “shout out” to the “night” in this ReStructure Mix. I have added a slight touch of new percussion to bring the celebration to a peak.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/22/24):”All Systems Go” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Donna Summer

Donna Summer took her voice to the limits of success throughout the 70’s which led eventually to her search for the layers below the “Queen Of Disco”. Her project titled “All Systems Go” from 1987 was a mixture of synth-pop tracks and also a few adult contemporary pieces where she uses the magic of her voice to introduce us to more of her undying talents. The title track, “All Systems Go” is a track that she co-wrote with Munich musician Harold Faltermeyer (“Axel “F”) and he also produced. The song is a fantasy number using the love experience as a trip to the stars. Donna delivers this experience once again in her powerful yet smooth delivery and then opens the portal with her convincing excitement throughout each chorus. It is one of my favorite 80’s tracks from Donna’s repertoire.

I have taken the 12” remix of “All Systems Go” and chipped it down for this new ReStructure Mix. I have removed much of the sampled vocals which outline the original mix and worked on bringing focus to Donna’s performance.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/18/24):”Disco Panther” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cassandra

Cassandra (Roberto Maurizio Coatti) is a transgender Italian actress and singer who released the single “Disco Panther” in 1978 - produced by Alan Taylor and arranged by Celso Valli. This number is pure camp as it mashes a sexy disco music along with Henry Mancini’s theme from “The Pink Panther”. The arrangement is all of 1978 with the fast moving disco bassline and the swirling strings. There are a few drop ins of the theme from the “panther” which completes the title and the vocal is very reminiscent of Amanda Lear’s concoctions. It is sheer fun and camp all along this track and the disco essence is captured completely.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Disco Panther” and focused more on the foundation of rhythms for this ReStructure Mix. There are a few looped guitar solos and sequencer breaks to give the track more of an open feel.

Kon Kan is a dance project from DJ Barry Harris who began a dance track with a mash-up of current vocals along with a classic piece of country-western (“(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden)” by Lynn Anderson. The single was a huge dance floor success and brought upon their album project titled “Move To Move” in 1989. The clever layout of the song is one that was innovative for the time and only heard before in special DJ remix medleys. The 80’s closing was a big celebration with tracks like this.

I have taken the 12” versions of “I Beg Your Pardon” and along with more of Lynn Anderson’s classic works this new ReStructure Mix. The new arrangement utilizes the verses in a new way and also extends the drop in piece of the classic piece.

ReStructure Mix Update (9/11/24):”Unison” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Junior

Junior (Norman Washington Giscombe, Jr.) is a soul/funk vocalist from London who had a big hit in 1981 titled “Mama Used To Say” which brought his name to the dance floor and DJ booths. His next single was released in 1983 and was titled “Unison” - produced by Andy Goldmark and Bruce Roberts. This single was released on the Casablanca Record and Filmworks label. A more subtle early morning sound on this track which contains some wonderful keyboard riffs which play out as a mellow strike yet resonate for seconds throughout the song. It is one of the tracks which always brings to my mind more of an afterhours feel.

I have taken the 12” version (vocal and dub) of “Unison” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to pull this one out to the dance floor again. I have utilized the lighty frenetic beats for a new intro and more of the anthem like chorus for the exit.
