ReStructure Mix Update (7/23/25): ”In Blue” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Data

Data is Frankie Boulter, Georg Kajanus, Henry Marsh, Phil Boulter and Simon Boswell - a synth-pop band from the early 80s. Their project from 1985 titled “Elegant Machinery” contained their track titled “In Blue” which is an alternative electronic sound. The track was featured on the Razormaid DJ subscription service and became a bit  of an underground/alternative piece for afterhours or club playlists. The shift during the early 80s full electronic productions had matured from the new-wave sound to a display of the intricate laying of this mechanism. “In Blue” literally paints sorrow in a somewhat whining delivery yet the operatic feel of these vocals holds a hypnotic effect. One of the 80s movements which would affect dance and pop music even today.

I have taken the 12” version of “In Blue” and rewired the patterns once again for this ReStructure Mix. A new intro and some looped segments recreate a new arrangement for this piece.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/21/25): ”Future World” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ganymed

Ganymed is an Australian “space” disco band from 1977 featuring Daniele Prencipe, Ernst Nekola, Gerhard Messinger, Gerry Edmond, Johann Hölzel, Rudolf Mille and Yvonne Dory. Their 1979 track “Future World” is from their project with the same title  - produced by Ganymed. The electronic arrangement is a layering of funky bass and galactic keyboards igniting imaginative themes from a galaxy in the future. As this piece outlines the longing for a human touch as it is obvious the sensual part of humans may be controlled digitally. The group performs this style in full costumes as if they were patrons of an odd existence somewhere in space far in the future.

I have taken the 12” version of “Future World” and re-visited the original with this new ReStructure Mix. Some new effects and a beat track are added to bring to life another galactic experience home.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/19/25): ”What Comes After Goodbye” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Respect

Respect is Walmsley / Robson / Hartley - a trio from the early 90’s who released their project “The Kissing Game” featuring the single “What Comes After Goodbye”. The track is one of the unique dance tracks of the period as it layers an arrangement of orchestral plays where the torrid ending of a love affair is questioned. An alternative piece which did not get much exposure although it is well deserving of an ear and a dance. Guest vocals here feature Phillip Oakey from Human League joining the heartache and deep emotions here.

I have taken the 12” version of “What Comes After Goodbye” and revitalized the pieces of the song which ring true for this ReStructure Mix. A use of the bass sequencer patterns are displayed in a new structure of breaks and bridges.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/17/25): ”Hollywood” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Ring

The Ring is a disco ensemble from producer/arranger Marcus Barone and includes Holly Oas, Jimmy Young and Russell Blake. Their 1979 single “Savage Lover” is one of the underground dance tracks of its time and gives The Ring an awaited return with this project by the same title. “Hollywood” is a single from the project which glorifies tinsel town and the fame and fortune it can bring to those who dream of stardom. It plays out as a fast moving bass and piano foundation which lays down the chorus which outlines the mood and dedication to becoming one of the figures on the screen who make this place ring on and on.

I have taken the 12” version of “Hollywood” and placed it into the ReStructure Mix realm and worked to make this one a bit more outlined  for its duties. A new rhythm track pounds out pieces of the excitement and promise that “Hollywood” has been known for since its existence. This arrangement has fun with parodies and makes a message a bit more fun.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/16/25): ”Do You Want It Right Now” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Siedah Garrett

Siedah Garrett is a soul/dance artist from the early 80s who also had the honor of being produced by Quincy Jones and also appeared on a duet with Michael Jackson in 1987. Her street dance track from the film “Fast Forward” from 1985 is a fantastic display of this talented ladies voice and performance. “Do You Want It Right Now” works on the 80s beat box elements and flows into a lovely piece where Siedah takes each level of the song to a higher level. One of the more soulful expressions in the excitement of power behind the voice.

I have taken the 12” version of “Do You Want It Right Now” and replaced those stomping beats into a new ReStructure Mix. Allowing more space for a few new drop outs and also a few loop beats which accent the song in a new way.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/13/25): ”Deeper” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Susan Clark

Susan Clark is a vocalist from New Jersey during the early 90s in the garage/house genre. Her 1991 single “Deeper” produced by James Bratton is the finishing touch on house music during this period. The underground scene created quite a stir on dance floors and influenced the pop and club music scene. “Deeper” is a diva track from beginning to end where Susan takes the track and gives it all of her sweat and emotions. It is a love song with a riff which gives off that time where house music was more of a dub-like substance giving it many variations and styles along the way.

I have taken the 12” version of “Deeper” and moved this one back into the underground with this ReStructure Mix. I have used more of the rhythm tracks to give the arrangement more movement and also rearranged the main riff among the new remix.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/12/25): ”Sinderella” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Betty Wright

Betty Wright’s return to the dance floor in 1985 with “Sinderella” an electronic/high energy piece produced by Gary Rottger and Joe Venneri. This number is an outline of the classic fairy tale “Cinderella” in a more modern updated land where she seems to find many men but no love. The track is fiercely produced with percolating sequencer and hard hitting clap tracks accenting the tale. It is one of Betty’s fine performances again where she gives off a touch of the disco-diva once again in a soulful way. A big mid-80s return for her and another opportunity for us to hear this fractured fairy tale take its place on the dance floor.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Sinderella” and retell the story in this ReStructure Mix. A new placement of verses and chorus are the new outline and some new breaks along the way.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/9/25): ”Givin’ Up” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bobby ‘O

Bobby Orlando is one of the dance producers who traveled the road from the late 70s disco era onto his own legacy of formulating a new genre in the early 80s called high energy. Many of his early 80s productions focused on an electronic arrangement with heavy drums and percussion. “Givin’ Up” is from his project from 1983 titled “Freedom In An Unfree World” which features his signature sound. His formula was a successful transition for the 80s where many of his themes and outlines were tracks that were to the point and often left field ideas. “Givin’ Up” is as simple as many of his pieces from his period, however the hard hitting arrangements give off a lure for both the ears and feet.

I have taken the 12” version of “Givin’ Up” and played out another opportunity to pay homage to Orlando in this ReStructure Mix. A new intro and shift in the delivery of the song are the new play here.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/8/25): ”Money” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Flying Lizards

The Flying Lizards are David Cunningham and Patti Palladin - an experimental nu-wave ensemble who recorded their version of the 1959 soul classic “Money” - written by Motown founder Barry Gordy and performed by Barrett Strong. Released in 1979 on Virgin Records, this recording became an alternative cover and an interesting effect on dance floors. The new wave scene devoured this release and made this style a staple to be an influence on many 80s groups. The piece follows close to the original melodies with a distorted take on the instrumentation as well as vocals. It can be a fun excursion into the shift and growth of musical history. This single was produced by  David Cunningham.

I have taken the 12” version of The Flying Lizards’ “Money” and placed it in a new direction on this ReStructure Mix. The original version by Barrett Strong is pieced into the arrangement along with another classic by The O’Jays. Another movement for this number to give us a “thrill”.
