"New York City Rhythm" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Barry Manilow

"New York City Rhythm" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow brought the 70s a wonderful collection of pop ballads in a style all of his own. He is truly one of the talents who made love songs feel even warmer.

His memorable disco era hit "Copacabana (At The Copa)" is one of the pop-dance tracks which made disco music alluring for many artists to dabble themselves. His double album "Barry Manilow LIVE" from 1977 featured "New York City Rhythm" which gave the city another meaning for the excitement and diversity of such a city.

I have taken the LP version and ReStructured the song with a few new angles - extending the Latin breaks and accentuating some of the wonderful lyrics for a deeper listening and dance experience. It is an uplifting Broadway-meets-discotheque sound.

Thanks to Paul C. for requesting this little gem. I appreciate the love you have for your city. I can feel it again, in this song.

"Get Dancin'" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Disco Tex and The Sex-O-Lettes

"Get Dancin'" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Disco Tex and The Sex-O-Lettes

Disco Tex & His Sex-O-Lettes is Sir Monti Rock III and his outrageous rock and roll review. The project featured many familiar players: Charlie Calello, Denny Randell, Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan. This album plays out like a out-of-bounds concert with a burlesque show and pop and lockers entertaining.

"Get Dancin'" is the the second track from the two sided medley and takes it's sound from the "boogie" sound of the mid-70s. As disco music has always evolved with the times this project may as well been influenced by outrageous tracks like "Disco Duck".

I have take "Get Dancin'" to give it the ReStructure Mix treatment adding a new bass guitar loop and some new beats and effects. It is extended a bit further than the original 4:08 LP version. It was quite fun to work with by trying on my patience, as the beats drop in and out of the original mix.

NOTE: Sir Monti Rock also appears in "Saturday Night Fever" as the club Odyssey DJ ("Love that polyester look...")!

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Alex from youtube.com/cohetedisco - thank you for the suggestion and "hear" you go!

"Pride" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Grace Jones

"Pride" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Grace Jones

Grace Jones is truly the "muse" of disco music. The Jamaican diva has truly left an image in the sound of disco, reggae, funk and new wave sound. Her recording career of the disco era was a unique experience for dance floors and became the forefront of its true essence.

"Fame" is Grace's 1978 LP produced by disco extraordinaire, Mr. Tom Moulton. The side one medley was one most celebrated disco productions of its time. I have taken "Pride" from the medley and created a new ReStructure Mix to remind those of us who were there of what excitement it was - and any new listeners to wonder what it must have been like.

Thank you, Mr Tom Moulton - you are the king in disco castle and have made it last forever!

"He Said, She Said" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Venus Dodson

"He Said, She Said" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Venus Dodson

Venus Dodson is a disco artist who worked closely with Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams - she appeared in many projects including Sine, Herbie Mann's "Super Mann", Phreek, Kay Gee's "Burn Me Up" a few album by The Salsoul Orchestra.

"Night Rider" is Venus' solo LP - which is one of my favorites of 1979. The production by Patrick Adams and Leroy Burgess is the finale disco sound of the late 70s and also has Venus as the chanteuse of the disco arena of the time - check out that cover!

I have taken the 12" version (same as LP) and given it a whole new ReStructure Mix to once again give those "tattle tales" a chance to tell their stories and Venus an opportunity to defend her man.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Venus Dodson - thank you for the emails, Venus!

You may find Venus Dodson at: http://www.imaramusic.com/Venus/ and http://www.myspace.com/venusdodson

"You Are A Danger" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gary Low

"You Are A Danger" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Gary Low

Gary Low (Luis Romano Peris Belmonte) is one of the earliest Italo-disco artists to ring in the sound which dominated progressive dance floors of the time.

"You Are A Danger" is his first recording wa produced by Paul and Peter Micioni, a Italian disco production team. It was a big hit on its release and made Gary a star on European dance floors.

I have taken the original 12" version of "You Are A Danger" and ReStructured the track into new arrangement - adding only a few new touches. It has one of the catchiest riffs from the period and also some killer keyboard and synthesizer work!

"Imagination" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Helen Reddy

"Imagination" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Helen Reddy

Australian born singer, Helen Reddy dominated the charts in the early 70s with many of her singles. She is one of the well known artists with lasting talent for singing and songwriting.

Her dance repertoire in the late 70s disco scene began with a cover of Kelly Marie's "Make Love To Me" from her 1979 LP "Reddy:. In 1983 her album "Imagination" was the source of her single by the same name. The 12" single was played by those jocks who could program this high-energy/early morning track cleverly. It has always been a favorite of mine and the instrumental has sound that disco bands like Space or Romanelli would weave.

I have take the 12" single and created a new ReStructure Mix adding some "imagination" and new beats. It is a very nice swirling number and deserves a place in the 80s dance movement.

"You Keep Me Hanging On" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Soiree

"You Keep Me Hanging On" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Soiree

Soiree is a studio project from producer, Billy Jackson with a cast of disco stars including Alfonzo Thornton, Jocelyn L. Brown, Sharon Redd, Ula Hedwig, Yvonne Lewis and Luther Vandross. This album consists of disco version of Motown, 50s and classic soul remakes. Full disco orchestrations make this project sound like gold.

I have taken the single and Diana Ross and The Supremes classic, "You Keep Me Hanging On" and have given it a ReStructure Mix to bring the top production a new sound. I have added some of the elements from the Motown classic into this playful mix.

In editing this disco piece I have reconnected with this marvelous album and wonder will we ever hear this kind of flare in future music?

"Got To Get To You" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Charade featuring Jessica

"Got To Get To You" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Charade featuring Jessica

Charade released "Got To Get To You" in 1983 - a single that helped to jump start the high energy resurgence. Dance floors were already warming up to similar production with energy like "Searching" by Hazell Dean and "So Many Men, So Little Time" by Miquel Brown.

Although the single gives credit to Jessica as vocals - it is actually Norma Lewis ("The Fight (For The Single Family)", "Maybe This Time"). Producer Ian Anthony Stevens is the master mind behind this high energy classic.

I have taken the Passion label Megamix 12" and used both the vocal and instrumental to create a new need for this flowing and lovely disco track.

"I Don't Want To Talk About It" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Pamala Stanley

"I Don't Want To Talk About It" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Pamala Stanley

Pamala Stanley is a singer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who hit the disco scene in 1979 with her huge hit, "This Is Hot". It was not long after that her career exploded into a ball of disco fire when her single (released and distributed on her own label) "I Don't Wanna Talk About It" marked her return.

Pamala always had the talent and voice to carry her music to both stage, recordings and diverse audiences. It was 1983 with the success of "I Don't Want To Talk..." which made dance floors anticipate her next move.

I have taken the original 12" version of "I Don't Want To Talk About It" - both vocal and instrumental and had a bit of fun with both lyrics, mood and instrumental. It is a whole new arrangement intended to make the song as fun as it was when released.

This ReStructure Mix was requested by Nick and Lindsay - and is dedicated to their love for the divas and dance music. Thank you again, boys!

"Dancer Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Pussyfoot

"Dancer Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Pussyfoot

Pussyfoot is vocalist Donna Jones (New Seekers, The Springfield Revival) and producer Mick Flynn. This 1978 disco track is very reminiscent of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" - both in vocal delivery and sequencer programming - yet, something new is added here. A harpsichord lightly trickles and accents the sleaze-like chorus.

This has always been a favorite of mine that I played throughout the 80s for early morning sets and this ReStructure Mix has given me a ploy to combine the track along with Patrick Cowley's classic Mega-mix of "I Feel Love" to connect the two songs together yet leave a space for the unique flavor of Pussyfoot's dance piece.

"Flight To Fantasy" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Linda G. Thompson

"Flight To Fantasy" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Linda G. Thompson

Linda G. Thompson is a German vocalist who is better known for her vocals with Silver Convention and The Hornettes (with Lucy Neale). Her single from 1975 "Ooh What A Night" is another single that echoes the sound of the funky/disco Silver Convention feel.

"Flight To Fantasy" is a single from 1980 produced by Uve Schikora that is an electronic dance piece which reflects the changing of disco music during the period. It is a hard edged rock-feel with a dreamy sound and vocal. Lots of moog synthesizers pounding out the sensual mood of this record.

I have taken the 12" inch version and recreated a ReStructure Mix that lends to many moments of the song that have always relayed the message clear. There are many loops and edits to extend the 5 minute original mix.

"Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

"Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Donna Summer

Donna Summer took her incredible talent into the 80s with legendary producer, Quincy Jones with her 1982 LP "Donna Summer" featuring a new approach to her diverse range and style.

"Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" was the first single from the album and changed the shape of dance floors as well as a new pop/jazz and funk approach to dance music. It was quite a "smoker" and an exciting time for Summer fans everywhere.

I have taken the 12" remix by Bruce Swedien and Craig Kostich and used both the vocal and instrumental (featuring a sax solo by Ernie Watts) and reunited the classic pieces into a new ReStructure Mix. It is truly a new sound and edit for the song.

Dedicated to my late "best friend" Roy (Angelo) Orozco - he was one of the die-hard Donna fans who made her magic come alive where he went. And thank you Donna for the Las Vegas show and making Roy feel special.

"Stuff Like That" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Quincy Jones

"Stuff Like That" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Quincy Jones

Quincy Jones is a living legend in the music industry. His productions and arrangement have made many artists shine like gold. His 1978 LP "Sounds...And Stuff Like That!!" is a project with pieces of funk, soul and jazz accentuated by Jones' magic touch.

I have taken the single "Stiff Like That" from the album version and have given it a new twist with a ReStructure Mix - it bears a few more breaks and some new kick-beats to jump start the hot track.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Ed DeNaro - thanks for the request and it is always fun to party with at GoBang! See you soon!

"Plug Me To Death" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Erotic Drum Band

"Plug Me To Death" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Erotic Drum Band

Erotic Drum Band is one of the Canadian disco bands that headed the disco boom in 1978 with the LP "Plug Me To Death" - which featured 4 classic percussion driven pieces. This is the kind of disco music from the underground scene and made it way to move dance floors in a new way.

I have taken the LP version of "Plug Me To Death" and reworked this instrumental track for a whole new ReStructure Mix. The killer percussion has always been infectious and builds like a wall of bricks until the whistle break blows it to smithereens!

It has been a question of which came first? Pattie Brooks' "After Dark" which shares the same percussion and and bass line similarities - I say, who gives a fetch? They are both disco classics and deserve a stage of their own.

Dedicated to Peter DiMilo - check his new Erotic Drum Band recordings at: http://www.peterdimilorecords.com/biography.html

"Hold Me Down" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Lipps Inc.

"Hold Me Down" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Lipps Inc.

Lipps Inc. is a disco icon band with their "Funkytown" hit!

Producer Steven Greenberg worked his special brand of synthesizers and funky guitars along with the fabulous vocals of Cynthia Johnson - on the first three albums.

"Hold Me Down" is from the "Designer Music" project which was one of the singles which gained allot of play in clubs. I have taken the synthesized and moog track into a new ReStructure Mix using the album version. There is more play in my mix focusing on the drums loops and some added effects.

"1-2-3" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Salazar

"1-2-3" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Salazar

Salazar is a disco band created by David Perry ("Keep On Walking" by Carrie Laporte) and features covers of 50s and 60s classics. "1-2-3" from their first LP was a big hit in clubs at the end of 1979 and continued on the disco energy tradition. The original was recorded by Len Barry in 1965.

I have taken the original 12" version from City Records in Canada and cut and re-worked a whole new ReStructure Mix - there is a lot more vocal and the breaks are broken down the the start to the completion of the finale countdown!

“Tech-No-Logical World” by Patrick Cowley – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Tech-No-Logical World” by Patrick Cowley – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Patrick Cowley’s finale album from 1982 was “Mind Warp” – is tragic that his life was taken from AIDS that year – in album notes he wrote much of the music while ill from his disease and eventually the track “Tech-No-Logical World” was based on the technology of the day yet no cure or knowledge of the disease that would take his life could be found or answered. Thus, the title “techno” and “no” are meaning “no logic” in a tech world.

I have taken the ghostly track which features vocal from the incredible, Paul Parker and paired it with the 1927 Fritz Lang expressionist film, “Metropolis” – which is set in a futuristic time and the social crisis between workers and corporate world take on destruction amidst the so-called perfect landscape.

Both work together thanks to the fantastic technical footage and the ultimate destruction of the metropolis.

The film was directed by Fritz Lang

"Rescue Me" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Taste Of Honey

"Rescue Me" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Taste Of Honey

Taste Of Honey is Donald R. Johnson, Hazel P. Payne, Janice M. Johnson and Perry Kibble - they are well known for their 1978 disco hit "Boogie Oogie Oogie" - and also the award for first black group to win the Best New Artist Grammy in 1979.

"Rescue Me" comes from their third LP "Twice As Sweet" from 1980 - produced by George Duke. It was a pop radio hit and made some club play lists: the 3:20 minute album version was the only version available at the time.

I have taken the album version and have given it an extended ReStructure Mix with a bit of an underground flavor. It has some drop out surprises and a long take on those funky guitar tracks!

"It's Too Late" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Simone

"It's Too Late" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Simone

Simone is a high-energy artist from the early 80s whose first single "It's Too Late" (a cover of Carole King's classic) is one memorable single from the disco sound called high energy. It was produced by Les Hunt who also gave us "Countdown" by Koffie and The Lovetones and "Eat You Up" by Angie Gold. The cover is a fast and flowing dance track with Simone's sweet but defiant vocal.

I have taken the 12" remix by Ian Levine and created a new ReStructure Mix focusing more on the gentle keyboard arrangements and pieces of the remix vocal ad-libs for energy and filler. The drums are still there - but are injected in part.

“Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Carl Douglas released his first LP in 1974 titled “Kun Fu Fighter” produced by Biddu (Biddu Orchestra) – the album marks a piece of funk/disco history with the big hit single, “Kung Fu Fighting” which hit #1 on the soul charts and won the 1974 Grammy Award for best selling single. The song, based on the Kung-Fu movie craze of the time helped to bring disco into a whole new success.

I have taken the 2002 action/comedy film “Kung Pow: Enter The Fist” into this Disco Video Mix and chopped the crazy and hilarious antics of these martial arts masters along with the disco track. The film stars Steve Oedekerk, Fei Lung and Leo Lee.

The film was directed by Steve Oedekerk

"Don't Stop" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - K.I.D.

"Don't Stop" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - K.I.D.

K.I.D. is a project led by Geoff Bastow (Stainless Steal, Foxx, Patto) who worked with Giorgio Moroder closely during The Munich Years. His performances include the early Donna Summer and Munich Machine albums.

The ensemble of K.I.D. released the single "Don't Stop" in 1980 from their LP "Number One" - it was released in the US in 1981. The sound consisted of heavy synthesizers and Bastow keyboards. It was a nice return to the mechanical disco sound with the uplifting chorus vocals.

I have taken the 12" version of "Don't Stop" and recreated a mix with more of depth and break-wise moments - not leaving out much of that beat-and-clap sound.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Geoff Bastow who sadly passed in 2007.

"Don't Fall In Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Alma Faye

"Don't Fall In Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Alma Faye

Alma Faye Brooks is the disco artists who brought the soulful vocal and theme of heartbreak to dance floors in 1977 with "Stop, I Don't Need No Sympathy"- produced by Dominic Sciscente (Black Light Orchestra, Space Project) and Michel Daigle .

Her 1979 LP was a fabulous return to the disco energy ala "torn love affair" with "It's Over" and "Don't Fall In Love" from the LP "Doin' It" - a project full of great surprises. I have taken the 12" version of "Don't Fall In Love" and created a new ReStructure Mix to extended the intro and add a few breaks and effects into the already hot mix by Lee Gagnon.

This ReStructure is dedicated to Nick and Lindsay - thank you for faith in another year of disco energy!
