ReStructure Mix Update (3/3/26): ”You Know How to Love Me” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tufuri

Tafuri is a vocalist from the late 80’s and early 90’s house scene and through her vocal talents landed an opportunity to bring back the Phyllis Hyman classic “You Know How To Love Me” released in 1979. This beautiful house cover gives us a blend of Tafuri’s vocal presence and the production from Steve Anderson. This version plays along the same essence of the original with a few new beats and riffs of the house dance music movement of the time. It gives us another opportunity to hear a soul/funk fused classic again in a whole new realm.

I have taken the 12” versions of Tafuri’s “You Know How To Love Me” and reignited the magic again for this ReStructure Mix. I have given the new arrangement some new drop-outs and breaks to create a new sound and dance experience for this great cover.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/2/26): ”Free To Be” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gioia

Gioia (Carmen Gioia Bruno) is a singer who was a part of the 80’s trio called Expose’. Her solo career gave us some independent releases and one from 2001 titled “Free To Be” which is one of the uplifting anthems of the dance period. Produced by David Nieves this electronic techo-pop piece delivers several riffs that sink deep into the heart of the early millennium dance scene. The self written song gives out a positive ring to each and every one on the dance floor to “be free as yourselves”. It also gives Gioia an opportunity to give her performance as a main liner  proving she is more than Expose allowed. There is a powerful message here which always caught my attention thanks to the uplifting arrangement and outline given here.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Free To Be” and revisited the anthem for this new ReStructure Mix. More emphasis on the actual groove with much of the original percussion making its way to the surface.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/1/26): ”Lucky Charm” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Hard Corps

Hard Corps are Clive Pierce, Hugh Ashton, Regine Fetet and Rob Doran - an 80’s synth-pop band from London. The sound of their music could be haunting and moody with a slight rock edge. “Lucky Charm” is their 1987 self-produced single which points to an early morning sound with layers of peculiar choruses and breaks. This one always screamed out to me with that deeper meaning where hidden messages are contained. Much of the sequencers are rolling bass tracks that take the dance floor into a mystique realm that gives off touches of Bronski Beat and hints of Eurythmics. One of the fluent dance tracks and a good start to acquaint yourself with the band if you are unfamiliar.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Lucky Charm” and rewired the tracks to create this new ReStructure Mix. Layering two of the versions for a new adventure into this concealing song.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/28/26): ”Hills Of Kat Mandu” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Suns Of Shiva

Suns Of Shiva is an electronic disco project from high energy producer, Ian Anthony Stephens (Paul Parker, Midnight Shift, Madleen Kane, The Flirtations, Marsha Raven) and he takes the Tantra classic “Hills Of Kat Mandu” from 1979 and translate it into a new energy for its release in 1993. Stephens does an incredible job at the layers which were created by the late Celso Valli and weaves a high energy piece which is bound to bring back memories of being somewhere on the dance floor that did not exist anywhere else. Released on his Klone Records label and given the lift that a classic dance floor track deserves without taking away it phenomenal.

I have taken the 12” version of Suns Of Shiva’s “Hills Of Kat Mandu” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix. Paying homage to Mr. Stephen's wonderful new and energetic arrangement with a few new turns.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/27/26): ”Fly Hi” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Whirlpool featuring Mel Torme

Whirlpool are Eric D. Clark, Fred Heimermann, Hans Nieswandt and Justus Köhncke - together they created an experimental house project sampling pieces from Mel Torme’s 2013 jazz release, “Hi Fly”. The original in the crooner style fits wonderfully into the house and dub-feel scene with its display of the night life as a “crazy” way. The execution is done very well in two 12” versions where one follows a standard vibe while the other goes deeper into a moorish edge (provided by Morel). The Whirlpool 12” was released in 1993 and played out to those underground crowds who may have been moving to a house set finding themselves in a whole new world. A classic among those who may have experienced it in the right realm and right time.

I have taken both versions of the Whirlpool track “Fly Hi” and reacquainted it with a few more pieces of Mel Torme’s number for this ReStructure Mix. The cross between both versions are united in a non-stop blend for those inspiring dancers.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/26/26): ”New York Nights” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Amant

Amant is a disco group from producer, arranger, composer Mr. Ray Martinez - whose big disco hit from 1978 titled “If There’s Love” created a parallel between Euro-disco and mainstream dance music in America. His fully orchestrated pieces were lush arrangements which tugged not only at the heart and soul - but also invigorated dance floors during the disco era. “New York Nights” is Amant’s 1982 single released on Martniez’s own dance label Paris International Records. The track plays out as an anthem to The Big Apple and the excitement of living a night during the heyday of the nightlife. One of the welcomed pieces from a classic disco group which left an indelible mark on dance floors and dance charts.

I have taken the 12” version of “New York Nights” and reworked the electronic arrangement into a new ReStructure Mix. I have spaced out the original in a new way and intended to keep the original energy working throughout this remix.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/23/26): ”So Hard” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Pet Shop Boys

Pet Shop Boys are Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe - a duo that has taken the high energy synthesizers and keyboards from the Bobby Orlando period and transformed the sound into their own. “So Hard” comes from their 1990 project titled, “Behavior” and is perhaps one of their intrinsic pieces. Taking ordinary situations brought on by feeling is one of their creative means. “So Hard” takes a relationship where adultery/infidelity is examined with their mild yet direct written responses. Fast paced from start to finish this tale is one of their powerful songs and simply laid out. These artists continue to create and morph into several arenas for spotlights.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental versions of “So Hard” and rebuilt this purpose for this new ReStructure Mix. Weaving together the memorable riffs and portions which make it work even now.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/20/26): ”Square Rooms” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Al Corley

Al Corley is best known for his part in the 80’s television series “Dynasty” and during the mid-80’s his brief solo music recording career beginning with a project produced by Munich producer, Harold Faltermeyer (“Axel F”, “Thief Of Hearts”) - the project included his dance single from 1984 titled “Square Rooms”. A moody piece of 80’s pop-dance with a definite style along with Al’s vocals which belong in this time period. Production features Faltermeyer’s experience with his work alongside Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer with a pulsing bass sequencer and piercing keyboards luring us into the somewhat destined loss of heart. A nice start on the dance floor for the time period to make his mark early.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Square Rooms” and reworked a new episode for this ReStructure Mix. A new downbeat pounds out the first half of this remix and a new fading exit which haunts us with Al’s vocal riff.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/17/26): ”Popcorn” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – M and H Band

M and H Band is French producer, Mark Haliday (hence the ‘M’ and ‘H’). His concept group for a late 80’s cover of the pop-experimental song “Popcorn” from 1972 which introduced many to the Moog synthesizer with its bubbly melody and rolling sequencers. The original qualifies as one of the early innovative pop tracks to be identified as “disco”. Halliday uses a “scat” riff to complete his cover of the piece and layers many riffs over his audio canvas. One of the best disco versions of this classic with some self identifying parts of its own. With the move forward through technology this cover and the original are definitely a big part of dance history.

I have taken the 12” versions of M and H Band’s cover of “Popcorn” to realign them into an abstract version for this ReStructure Mix. Using the whole emphasis of a trip about to take place to give the arrangement a new feel and somewhat experimental take once again.

ReStructure Mix Update (2/15/26): ”Goodbye Stranger” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Pepsi and Shirlie

Pepsi and Shirlie are Pepsi DeMacque and Shirlie Holliman - prior to their duo releases both were backup singers for the group WHAM! in the early 80’s. “Goodbye Stranger” is their 1987 single from their project titled “All Right Now” - produced by Pete Hammond. One of the tracks which made them a club favorite during the time period and also gave them a spot as an exciting new duo. The emphasis on “Goodbye Stranger” is a dismissal of excitement during the first meeting of a potential love interest - but according to our gals it was just not meant to be. The stripped down production of the 12” single is a house piece where the song is stripped down to its bare and a thumping house bass is inserted. Another serenade to that house movement in the late 80s.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Goodbye Stranger” and recreated a new venture for this ReStructure Mix. Using the original percussion pieces and bass I have assembled a new intro and drop out for this number.
