REISSUE: “A View To A Kill” by DJ’s Factory – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: “A View To A Kill” by DJ’s Factory – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

DJ’s Factory is a German studio group produced by Adrian Askew (Tone Band) and Bullent Aris. Their 1985 cover of Duran Duran’s “A View To A Kill” is an Italo-disco piece which takes the song into a subtle energy. It flows nicely and gives the song a new sense of meaning.

I have taken the 1984 film “Body Double” starring Craig Wasson and directed by Brian De Palma, the 70’s and 80s version of Alfred Hitchcock and placed the voyeuristic scenes into this Disco Video Mix to outline the lyrics. It gives the song the visual of the danger our main character encounters during his venture into peeping into neighbor’s privacy.

"Give Me The Night" - ReStructure Mix by Glenn Rivera - George Benson

"Give Me The Night" - ReStructure Mix by Glenn Rivera - George Benson

"Give Me The Night" is George Benson's jazz-disco fusion project which gave the early 80s a breath of nightlife once again. A breezy and funky track that takes Benson's jazz guitar talent where it feels right.

Produced by Quincy Jones and has that ethereal production sound that leaves the mind somewhere "out there". This ReStructure Mix is a piece-by-piece remix that is intended to rearrange verse, chorus and parts of the song that make it what disco and experimentation is all about.

Dedicated to Rick in Australia and sending energy for a speedy recovery - we need you in "Discoland"!

“Magnifique” by Magnifique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Magnifique” by Magnifique – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Magnifique is a single from a studio concept band originally titles Charisma – produced by disco producer Anthony Monn (Judy Cheeks, ORS). The track is one of the hardcore club records of the late 70s and onto the early 80s. The feel of the song is a bit erotic along with climatic synthesizers swirling into crescendos.

I have taken the mystique of the song and placed it along with the British science fiction/black comedy from 1985 “Brazil” starring Jonathan Price, Robert De Niro and Katherine Helmond. The dreamlike fantasy has a bit of the claustrophobia elements of the disco track which blend very well.

The film was directed by Terry Gilliam

“I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Gloria Gaynor – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Gloria Gaynor – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Gloria Gaynor’s third album “I’ve Got You” was released in 1976 under the production of Jay Elis, Meco Monardo and Tony Bongiovi. The disco groove became more and more evident with Gloria’s fantastic vocal delivery. Her style and dedication to disco music gave dance floors a polished yet soulful approach to its theme and music.

I have taken the title track “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” (from the motion picture “Born To Dance”) written by Cole Porter and paired the disco-fied version to the 1984 comedy/romance film “All Of Me” starring Steve Martin and Lily Thomlin – it tells the story of a dying millionaire who attempts to have her soul transferred into the body of a willing younger woman. In the process something goes wrong and she finds herself in the body of her lawyer, Steve Martin. The theme somehow blends with the silly and comedic consequences.

"The Glow Of Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Change

"The Glow Of Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Change

Change is one of the landmark moments of the early 80s. This production by Jacques Fred Petrus and Goody Music Orchestra is a magnificent breath of New York disco and the innovative sound of Italo-disco/funk - most likely influence by Chic.

"Glow Of Love" is the title track which features the late Luther Vandross on lead vocal - leading the way into a track that climbs and climbs with a nice roller-skate beat and feel. One of the treasures of the period.

I have ReStructured the song and have given it a complete new arrangement to treat the ears to something different and new - for those who have danced to it over-and-over.

"Give It Up" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Claudja Barry

Disco chanteuse Claudja Barry made the 70s a wholesome disco experience. Many of her tracks produced by her husband Jurgen S. Jorduletsch and include many muscians and studio ensemble from The Disco Munich Period.

"Give It Up" is a cut from her 1978 Lp "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes" and received some airplay during the big peak of disco radio. It has some definite "funky" grooves and I have given it a new face lift.

“Eye On You” by Hippies With Haircuts – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Eye On You” by Hippies With Haircuts – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Hippies With Haircuts is one of Bobby Orlando’s studio projects from the early 80s – there is no mistaking his synthesizers and hard hitting percussion. “Eye On You” is a strange and somewhat twisted track that is mysterious and alluring – and every bit as cheesy as synth-pop disco can get.

I do not know where this concept came from – in my head – but just popped in and was edited. Taking the 1971 suspense thriller “Play Misty For Me” and placing the obsessed Jessica Walter on disc jockey Clint Eastwood. The ending of course is not a happy one – someone makes a big splash – and it’s not in the music world.

The film was directed by Clint Eastwood – and he did not receive any pay for his work – believe it or not

“Get Ready” by X-Ray Connection – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Get Ready” by X-Ray Connection – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

X-Ray Connection is two high energy producers from The Netherlands who created a wall of electronic sound in the mid-80s. Their track “Get Ready” is from their LP “X-Ray Connection”. Past productions included Gazuzu, Digital Emotion, Dr. Groove and Tempo Rubato. Their sound is very recognizable by the many “space” sound effects pulsing with the pumping bass lines.

The 1987 “Star Wars” spoof from Mel Brooks is “Spaceballs” and stars Mel Brooks, John Candy, Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis. Lots of great gags and laughs are placed along with X-Ray Connection’s “Get Ready” – outlining the victory in outer space played with lots of laughs.

“Can The Rhythm” by Girl Talk – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Can The Rhythm” by Girl Talk – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Girl Talk is a production from Stock, Aitken and Waterman (Dead or Alive, Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley) from 1984 – it features Karen Wright and Julie Wright. Their high energy track “Can The Rhythm” was a quite a mover in clubs for the time – and also gave dance floors an opportunity to celebrate to that “girl twirl” sound.

I have created a Disco Video Mix using the 1985 dance/comedy “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” starring Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex In The City”) Helen Hunt and Lee Montgomery – the 80s dance romp is synched from the teen romance frames to the big dance finale. Intended to keep the rhythm and the 80s alive!

“Harlem Shuffle” by Rinder and Lewis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Harlem Shuffle” by Rinder and Lewis – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Rinder and Lewis cover Bob and Earl’s 1973 soul classic “Harlem Shuffle” in their 1979 album “Warriors” – seems as though this team does their best at freestyle productions of classic rock and roll tunes as well as their unique flavor of disco music.

I have taken scenes from the 1989 film “Harlem Nights” starring Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and Della Reese – the story of “Sugar” Ray owner of an illegal casino and the gangsters involved in taking it away. The action moves well with the low-key sound of the disco track and gives a bit of light to some of the beauties, as well as the sets.

The film was directed and written by Eddie Murphy

“You Stepped Into My Life” by Melba Moore – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“You Stepped Into My Life” by Melba Moore – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Melba Moore is one of disco music’s long standing artists – her dance floor hits span from 1976 throughout the mid-80s. Beginning with classics “Standing Right Here” through funk tracks “Read My Lips”. Her vocals came from the stage and serenade the dance floor as wholeheartedly.

Melba’s big disco LP titled “Melba” was released in 1979 featured a cover of the Bee Gees “You Stepped Into My Life” – produced by Gene McFadden and John
Whitehead.

I have taken the track into a Disco Video Mix along with the 1987 comedy “Harry and The Hendersons” –starring John Lithgow, Melinda Dillon and Kevin Peter Hall. The film is a light hearted comedy on a family and their meeting Harry – who is the legendary and lovable Bigfoot. It was an opportunity to take the song into a whole new meaning with a fun twist.

The film was directed by William Dear

“Tonight” by Gloria Gaynor – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Tonight” by Gloria Gaynor – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Gloria Gaynor’s “Tonight” is a cover from the 1957 Broadway musical “West Side Story” and was featured on her “I Have A Right” LP from 1979. The masterful Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris production also features Doc Severinson on trumpet. This is a hidden treasure of Gloria's for many.

I have taken the theatrical film version from 1961 and created a Disco Video Mix encompassing the wonderment of the love between our lead characters and giving them a groove between both love and their first dance.

The film version stars Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris – it was directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise.
