ReStructure Mix Update (12/30/22): “Melting Pot” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Soundblast
Soundblast is a Canadian studio disco band who covers Booker T & The MG's 1971 soul/psychedelic instrumental “Melting Pot”. The remake released on Uniwave Records in 1980 is a groove with more downbeats and a vocoder added for the technology advance effect. This one has a true allegiance with more determination on the climbing bridge which almost feels gospel backed with the keyboards blaring out their refrain. It is a nice taste of the past roots of soul and where the groove began to educate those involved with a more underground dance experience.
I have taken the 12” cover of “Melting Pot” and used more of the rhythmic elements to create this ReStructure Mix. The bongos and rhythm parts are given a faraway into the excitement of this laid back, yet funky-ass track.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/28/22): “Into The Groove” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Madonna
Madonna released the single “Into The Groove” in 1985 and was featuring in the soundtrack “Desperately Seeking Susan” – a film she also starred in. The single was produced by Madonna and Steve Bray. It is one of my favorite tracks from that year as it has an infectious groove and also lifts the spirits with its positive message. The song became one of the top dance chart entries and also helped to give Madonna a new iconic track to her fans. This one has the simple keyboard ruffs that echo the 80’s sound yet the dedication that Madonna gives to her tracks makes it even more of a dance floor move.
I have taken the 12” vocal and the instrumental versions of “Into The Groove” and stripped down the essence of the song for this ReStructure Mix. I have layered pieces of the lyrics and vocals for an opportunity to create some new breaks and rhythm loops.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/27/22): “I Need Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Novecento
Novecento is a Italian band - Pino Nicolosi, Lino Nicolosi, Rossana Nicolosi, Dora Carofiglio and Dora Nicolosi. Their 1990 single “I Need Love” followed the house music explosion of the late 80’s and uses the simplest form to create a roaring love song with the help of both Dora’s. This one has a nice build and takes the Chicago house piano riffs into a nice subdued love song. This one scream Italo-house and disco at the same time since the riffs are centered in the dance arena where heavy breakdowns give us an opportunity to reflect on the energy itself.
I have taken the 12” version of “I Need Love” and worked the beats into a new form for this ReStructure Mix. The new beats help to pound out the rhythm once again and also intend to pay homage to the “Nicolosi” masters.

Gazuzu is a production from Cat Music (Adams & Fleisner) a Dutch electronic dance team. Their music is always in the realm of lighthearted fantasy and play – and always with a heavy drum beat. It is the lighter side to disco Calypso with an ensemble assisting in the chorus and ad-libs. “Go Go Gorilla” is their 1984 track from their self-titled album. The theme here is a zoo-keeper who returns late at night to find the inhabitants partying on down in a funky way. An escape in a way that disco music created in the late70’s with a theme and concept. This one is only sheer fun with some kick ass beats and claps programmed for dancing.
I have taken the 12” vocal, instrumental and bonus beats versions to recreate that partying for “Go Go Gorilla” in this ReStructure Mix. More of the melodic pieces are used to give the track a more sweeping sound.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/24/22): “D.J. I Wanna Be Your Record” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Moulin Rouge
Moulin Rouge is a Slovenian group whose sound follows the Italo-disco fare of the early and mid-80’s. Their 1988 release “D.J. I Wanna Be Your Record” is one of that years which so few were successful high energy which were memorable. This uplifting track has the rolling bass with a few breakdowns which work well in the flow of Italo-disco and makes a mark of course with the titled “D.J.” included. It does have several riffs that mark a memorable dance experience for that peak set. Produced by Fabio Sparago, Kosi Matiage and Riccardo Persi – the full-on electronic arrangement is broken into parts with samples and catchy verse interactions.
I have taken the 12” version of “D.J. I Wanna Be Your Record” and reworked the flowing pieces into am continuous energy force for this ReStructure Mix. There are new breaks created with vocal pieces and the cha-cha keyboard parts for the energy breaks.

The Players Association is a disco/funk ensemble lead by producer, Danny Weiss. One of the early signs of soul and funk emulating a new sound that was fully dedicated to the dance floors of the time. Similar to The Salsoul Orchestra with more of that jamming essence in arrangements and production. “Love Hangover” is their instrumental cover of Diana Ross’ big soul classic from 1976 a year following its success. This recording is a full on instrumental as a live band would project its sensual allure. The layout is identical yet minus Ross’ sex appeal. It is from their first self-titled release. The disco history is all contained in bands like The Players Association and the lure of many who were curious of what disco music was or was becoming is a big part of this sound.
I have taken the 12” version of The Players Association’s “Love Hangover” and laid down some new beats and heavy percussion to recreate this ReStructure Mix. Some of Diana Ross’ original acapella is added to remind us of just how sexy and infectious this track is and was.

Charlie is rock band from London, England formed in 1971 and released their seventh, self-titled album in 1983 – produced by Kevin Beamish and Terry Thomas. “It’s Inevitable” is a single from the project which was also released as a 12” dance single. With an electronic path leading the rocked guitars into a dance arena this track depends widely on the lead vocal which gives way to that 80’s edge called DOR. It pulsates a vibration from the start and makes a nice fusion for 80’s dance and rock combined. The powerful 12” version makes for most the songs long and alluring qualities here for the dance floor. A great crossover and fusion for the 80’s.
I have taken the 12” version of “It’s Inevitable” and remapped the track with new beats and segment arrangements for this ReStructure Mix. More of the keyboard riffs are placed with new energy to spike this one back for a rock-out moment on the dance floor.

Bad Boys Blue is Andrew Thomas, Trevor Taylor and John McInerney – a trio who started their fame in Europe in 1985. “Hungry For Love” is a single released in 1988 – produced by Tony Hendrik & Karin Hartmann. This love song is a yearning for a feel and emotion with a touch of that club anthem energy. The orchestral strikes are the introduction which makes this one feel like it is climbing the peaks of the mirror balls above. It has always been a favorite of mine and received allot of response from my dance floors during its release.
I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Hungry For Love” and recapped the song again for this ReStructure Mix. It is guided by some ne percussion and beats added to the foundation of this new journey.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/19/22): “Envy” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rinder and Lewis
W. Michael Lewis and Laurin Rinder are pioneers of the disco sound and may have been one of the deciding factors on relying on disc jockeys and dance floors to help shape the sound of genre itself. “Seven Deadly Sins” is their 1977 release which outlines exactly what the title says in a disco fluent style that plays out in their discotheque lounge style. “Envy” is the focus of this ReStructure Mix and is replayed with an edit of the second part of this piece titled “Animal Fire”. The flow of the instrumental parts remains the sound that Lewis and Rinder were known for and became their unique gift to disco history.
I have taken the track “Envy (Animal Fire)” from the album and removed the vocal segments to create a new ReStructure Mix for this classic. A new foundation is laid out from another innovative source in the electronic dance movement of the 70’s, Kraftwerk. The tease here is the ongoing keyboard pieces bringing this “sin” into a lighter place: the dance floor.

Patty Heart is a German dance project from producers Andy Free and Jozef Smits. This hard ponding piece has some nice electronic dance qualities including the defiant lead vocal which at times reminded me of an 80’s rock anthem on an imaginary theme. “Love Waves” is a yearning for that last minute love opportunity as the night grows older and the meaning become disturbing. This piece is laid out into segments with pull on a keyboard riff and a male chorus shouts out that echoes into the night. It is one of my favorite underground early-morning songs and has a nice mystique about itself.
I have taken the 12” dance mix and “bass waves” version of “Love Waves” and worked to create a deeper messaging using the weary keyboard pieces. This ReStructure Mix also adds a heavy techno thumping beat to bring the ideal to light.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/13/22): “Love Oasis” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Patris
Patris is an electronic dance project from producers Craig Peyton and Nelson Cruz – and released on the New York dance label, Emergency Records in 1985. The vocals by Patris here are soft and subtle yet the beats pound out the ominous search for that “love oasis” at the end of the day. One of the nice synth-pop pieces with a direct hardcore club feel. This one compares to a Latin-free style with more emphasis on the drop beats. Nice segments into a rock-styled guitar break which bring the essence of a nice fusion on board.
I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Love Oasis” and laid out the beats and the heavy bass sequencer in a new way for this ReStructure Mix. A bit of play with phrases add a new break and some new percussion above those80’s beats work a track again.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/12/22): “Fancy Dancer” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gregg Diamond’s Star Cruiser
Star Cruiser is a studio project from producer Gregg Diamond (Andrea True Connection, Bionic Boogie, Hardware) from 1978 and released on Henry Stone’s Marlin Records label. The project highlights not only Diamond’s studio magic in creating a slick sound for disco but also features in this vocal ensemble, Diva Gray, Gordon Grody, Jocelyn Brown and Zach Sanders. “Fancy Dancer” is the low groove which Diamond created with his early production of “More, More, More” by Andrea True Connection – a sound called “boogie music” and eventually “disco”. Diva Gray is the lead on this one and gives off the early injection of disco funk crossover in the chic-est sense. It is not hard to understand how Gray was transformed into many studio projects including Lemon, Oyster and he solo career.
I have taken the album version of “Fancy Dancer” and reinjected a heavy drop beat below intro segments and percussion in this ReStructure Mix. The rearrangement is provided to relay the power in each portion of this disco-funk number.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/10/22): “All Right Now” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Witch Queen
Witch Queen is a disco ensemble lead by producers, Gino Soccio and Peter Alves. One of the early disco [projects from 1979 which features the complete electronic wizardry of Soccio to layer the magic in this project. “All Right Now” is their disco-fied version of the 1970 rock classic by Free and takes on an arrangement which completes the mirroring of the instrumental with a take on the effects edge. It is one of the pieces which followed the huge cover of “Bang A Gong” from this album and makes it complete as one of the disco cover bands whom brought success and those rock gems.
