ReStructure Mix Update (10/31/25): ”Let’s Trade” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Zak

Zak (Zacharias Preen) is a German actor and recorded a couple of singles in the early 80’s. His 1984 release titled “Let’s Trade” is a street beat piece with a touch of his rhythms in the rapping genre with a new wave touch. The focus is on Wall Street trading and the terminology therein. Recorded in various dimensions where the latest word is taking on the trading world. One of the recordings in a genre that would follow artists like Paul Hardcastle and tracks like “19”. A definite 80s venture with the turn on strange avenues and emulating a  rhythm for moving.

I have taken the 12” version of “Let’s Trade” and reinvested the groove in a new ReStructure Mix. The pumping bass tracks and street beats are entangled in a new arrangement which focuses more on the continuity of the energy.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/29/25): ”Dog Was A Doughnut” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cat Stevens

Cat Stevens is a 60s folk, pop and rock artist who made a shift in his creative process in 1977 with an electronic piece titled, “Dog Was A Doughnut” from his album “Izitso”. The track was a simple keyboard rhythm accentuated by a few climatic moments where the psychodelica takes over. An experimental piece for 1977 in rhythm and execution. The lasting effect was felt through 1983 when a street track titled “Salsa Smurf” by Special Request on Tommy Boy Records replayed the outline in a new display of homage and rekindling the original moment. Although the bass lines are a light tapping of intrinsic energy they fulfill the underground style of many early influences in dance music.

I have taken the album version of “Dog Was A Doughnut” and readministered the track with a new energy for this ReStructure Mix. Using the keyboard segments in their original state and also adding a few guest appearances from Laurie Anderson. A heavy early morning beat keep the bass alive in a new experience.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/28/25): ”Killer Instinct” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Robey

Robey (Louise Anne Beris Fiona Robey) is a singer, actress and  model who released a self-titled project in 1985 - produced by Mr. Joel Diamond. “Killer Instinct” is a single from the album which received club play on high-energy playlists. The track is a full on electronic arrangement with jolts of syn-drums and climatic keyboard segments. It has the fill of an 80s dance number and an outline of a movie soundtrack of the same period. There are some great riffs working below the song including the pop-syndrum effects that pull themselves to the surface here and accentuate the rhythm tracks. Robey gives a performance with some points where she takes the energy on with a level that is sweet but threatening.

I have taken the 12” vocal and dub versions of “Killer Instinct” and re-worked this synth-pop number into a new ReStructure Mix. Using the original drum tracks to reshape the intro and also create a new break also.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/27/25): ”Keep On Talking” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Carrie Laporte

Carrie Laporte is a disco artist who released her single “Keep On Talking” in 1980 and was produced and arranged by David Perry - who also gave us the disco group Salazar (“1,2,3”). This track is one of the last of the disco tracks of the era and also one of the first high-energy pieces of the early 80s. Built on a wonderful guitar riff and then builds into a solution to a romance which seems to be fading. Carrie has a familiar sound to her voice and always brought back that pure disco edge with this cooker. From start to finish this one takes several movements which create a nice variation for the chorus that builds into a nice crescendo. A great release for 1980 when it became difficult to find a nice disco track following 1979.

I have taken the 12” version of “Keep On Talking” and readministered the energy into a new ReStructure Mix. Using pieces of the mid and finale parts to reassemble this one into a new format. More of the energy is squeezed to the surface in a placement of those killer riffs.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/26/25): ”How Will I Know” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston has made the 80s a mark in music history with her talent in vocal abilities. As one of the leading in the music industry and having the proper inception for her career she has made many fantastic moments in music. “How Will I Know” is from her first project from 1985 titled “Whitney Houston” and was produced by Naratha Michael Walden. The synth-pop track is one of the fastest moving hits in the club circuit for the time and was the perfect vehicle with Houston’s flawless performance. A question is brought to mind in this song and although it may be perplexing this number makes it fun and celebratory. It is one of the 80’s magic moments where an artist is about to take over adult contemporary and dance tracks.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental versions of “How Will I Know” and rebuilt the song using the original elements for this ReStructure Mix. Placing the verses in new areas and creating a new chorus segment for a new face.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/25/25): ”This Is The Way That I Feel” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Marie Osmond

Marie Osmond of The Osmond Family (The Osmond Brothers) began her recording career in 1973 with her pop-hit “Paper Roses” and moved into country music and then back into pop. Her ventures were always personal ventures where her dedication to finding her place among the music industry is well respected. “This Is The Way I Feel” comes from her project of the same title and was produced by Rick Hall. This is a shift into a style of pop from 1977 which plays out well and in her favor. Marie works her sweetness among this number with a touch of yearning and sensitivity which gives us a whole new angle for her approach. “This Is The Way I Feel” makes her homework complete as she sounds comfortable moving into a performance where she makes us feel she is truly understanding her direction vocally.

I have taken the album version of “This Is The Way I Feel” and have given the radio mix a longer prelude to the message in this ReStructure Mix. New drum and pieces of the original I have pieced to create a more flowing arrangement for this extended play.

Thanks to Adam Cromer for requesting this song for a ReStructure Mix and dedicated to his patience and kindness. Thank you, Adam.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/24/25): ”Clean Up Woman” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Karen Silver

Karen Silver is a disco artist who was produced by Gino Soccio and John Driscoll on  her first big hit - a cover of Sam and Dave’s r&b classic “Hold On I’m Coming”. It was released in 1979 and made dance floors ignite with the heavy bass drums and the jittery sequencers pounding out the song in a whole new way. “Clean Up Woman” is Karen’s cover of Betty Wright’s soul hit from 1972 - produced by Gino Soccio and released in 1982. The electronic cover done with Soccio’s touches igniting it into a disco vehicle is one of Karen’s sought after covers of the time.

I have taken the 12” version of Karen’s cover of “Clean Up Woman” and laid out the funky guitars and horns in a new way for this ReStructure Mix. I have added a new foundation on segments of this remix to pound out more of the dedication from Karen’s vocals.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/23/25): ”Santa Maria” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tatjana

Tatjana is a Dutch singer and actress who began her recording career in the early 90’s in the Euro-pop/dance scene. Her 1996 track “Santa Maria” is from her project under the same name - produced by Matt Aitken and Mike Stock (of Stock/Aitken/Waterman trio). This pumping Euro-dance number became an instant dance floor hit with the riffs which bring on a wonderful alignment of the dance floor during the time period. It has that adorable quality which immediately makes one feel uplifted. A great following of bands like 2 Unlimited, Dr. Alban and Culture Beat where the energy is pouring out from start to finish.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Santa Maria” and pulled the hypnotic bass and crescendo-like chorus into a new ReStructure Mix. I focused a bit more on the mystique of the track and introduced it in a new direction as well as make way for the fading completion.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/21/25): ”Baby Don’t Say Goodbye” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Dead Or Alive

Dead or Alive are one of the unforgettable bands of the 80’s dance scene. Pete Burns is the face of the band and took the focus with his menacing vocal approach and unique character. “Baby Don’t Say Goodbye” is from their 1988 project titled “Nude” - produced by Dead Or Alive. A dance number which outlines the end of a romance where the grip is hard to release. There is a lot of raw emotion in this recording from Burns who plays the delivery as forlorn as he can and it is felt throughout the song. This one was a big surprise for me as it contains the moody feelings of heartbreak yet relays hope in the memories which created the heart of it all. A nice long song delivered in the edge of 80’s synth-pop along with Pete Burns crooning with his devout performances.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental versions of “Baby Don’t Say Goodbye” and realigned this piece in the ReStructure Mix batter. A dramatic intro for the drama and of course a flowing and connected fade.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/20/25): ”Big West” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gregg Diamond’s Bionic Boogie

Bionic Boogie is one of the disco projects from the mid-70s which helped to mature and share dance music. Gregg Diamond is the head of this ensemble and his earlier work with Andrea True Connection (“More, More, More”) can be heard in this first Bionic Boogie album. His use of studio musicians creating a funky and live dimension among the rhythmic outlines of disco were audible thanks to studio musicians he supported. “Big West” is from the first self-titled Bionic Boogie project from 1977 and is one of the early instrumental disco tracks which gave us the rolling bass which became a staple among disco music as well as the dramatic strings and creative percussion scattered in his arrangements. This track, like much of his work, is self-written. One of his successes with Bionic Boogie were the vocals which included Gwen Guthrey, Yolanda, Zach Sanders and Luther Vandross.

I have taken the album version of “Big West” which has a few moments of that western touch in melodies and reapplied a recapping of the arrangement for this ReStructure Mix. A new predominant rhythm track is added to flow along and break the pure disco lightness into a downbeat sound.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/19/25): ”Band Of Gold” (1993 Version) – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Freda Payne

Freda Payne is a vocalist whose early recordings featured jazz, and big band numbers and eventually landed her a pop hit in 1970 titled “Band Of Gold” - produced by the Motown trio Holland, Dozier and Holland. The song became an instant soul classic and now Freda as a household name among music enthusiasts the track was her literal “gold”. The song has an endearing sound and moving lyrics which are projected by Freda in a youthful and emotional delivery. In 1993 high-energy producers Ian Levine and Rick Giantos paid homage to the classic with an Almighty Records cover in the 90’s club circuit sound. This release marked again a new audience for the single and a wonderful remembrance for the original for those who lived through the impact of the original.

I have taken the 12” versions of Almighty Records cover of “Band Of Gold” and gave my own homage to both in this ReStructure Mix. I have used rhythm elements of all versions and created a new arrangement for this touching number.
