Ultimate is a disco group started in 1978 from Casablanca Records and an idea by Marc Paul Simon who worked in promotion on projects by Paul Jabara and also the soundtrack to “Thank God It’s Friday”. The first project was produced by Juliano Salerni (Strange Affair, Hi-Gloss, Tangerue and Bonnie Boyer) and featured a European disco outline complete with an orchestral feel. Their follow-up in 1980 was produced by Bruce Weeden and Michael Forte and was more of a Philly soul sound with a disco edge. “Secret Agent Man” is their cover of the Johnny Rivers’ 1966 classic in the full disco flare. Exchanging the guitars to the lush sound of strings and utilizing a full percussion break for the dance floor to eat up. The beautiful vocals from Barbara Hernandez, Deborah McGriff and Riti Saunders create the Bond-like feel of this cover.
I have taken the album version of Ultimate’s cover of “Secret Agent Man” and built a new extended groove for this ReStructure Mix. Using the percussion pieces and placing them amongst the verses and choruses to create a new experience for this clever remake.
