ReStructure Mix Update (7/5/22): “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Inner Life

Inner Life is a disco project from producers Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael and features Jocelyn Brown on vocals. Their big dance floor hit “I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)” from 1979 made an impact as an anthem for the end of the 70s disco era. Their 1981 project “Inner Life” features their fabulous cover of the Motown classic “Ain't No Mountain High Enough”. One of the Garage classics beautifully remixed by Larry Levan himself and along with the incredible vocal from Jocelyn this one will live forever. One of the great early revival pieces of the early 80s when the underground scene again to prove that the dance floor was not yet closed.

I have taken the 12” Garage Version of Inner Life’s “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” and displayed this one in the ReStructure Mix mode. The arrangement is recapped in a new way and several new drum and percussion tracks added.

B.T. Express is funk band from Brooklyn, New York and is well known for their sexy 1974 hit, “Do It (‘Til Your Satisfied)”.  Produced by Jeff Lane and features early member, Billy Nichols (“Give Your Body Up To The Music”). “Express” is a memorable track since there were a few dance releases featuring the train theme as energy on the dance floor. This one delivers the brass and horn section which makes the early 70s funk scene jump start the disco era. The arrangement is a smooth groove along with a breakdown of instrumentals along with the popular chorus line. A piece of the funk and dance scene which makes the 70s groovy.

I have taken the album version of “Express” and stamped the ReStructure Mix seal on it with a downbeat to level the groove into a new energy. The bass and horns are given another opportunity to give those sweat glands a chance to work overtime.

Munich Machine is a staple disco project from producers, Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. The fusion of Euro-disco and electronic elements from Moroder’s early masterwork. Their big dance floor track “Get On The Funk Train” has always given the disco elegance to the nightlife and are an important part of the path of dance music. “Party Light” is from the 1979 project titled “Body Shine” and gives this session an anthem for the time period. It has several movements pieced into a slick mover that takes the project into a new phase.

I have taken the album version of “Party Light” and make a new effort to bring the track alive again in this ReStructure Mix. The beats and bass lines are reedited and placed into a new step by step celebration for the dance floor.

Frisky is a studio group from producers Moses Dillard and Jesse Boyce – and features Joy Cannon and Lorraine Johnson on vocals. The project simply titled “Frisky” is more of the New York disco/funk which Boyce and Dillard made their own. On projects by Saturday Night Band, Constellation Orchestra to the solo album from Lorraine Johnson there is a groove which captures disco music in its most influential time. “Burn Me Up (With Your Love)” is a hot single from the project which gives off a subtle sleaze edge with lots of funk guiding the way. A nice sassy vocal gives this piece its own remedy.

I have taken the album version of “Burn Me Up (With Your Love)” and stripped down pieces of the chorus and groove for this ReStructure Mix. This time around it is more emphasize on a dub-like delivery with more breaks and ominous fade.

ReStructure Mix Update (6/30/22): “Makin’ Music” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Gary’s Gang

Gary’s Gang is Joe Tucci (Eric Matthew) and Gary Turnier – who also marked a vital period in disco history with their 1978 dance floor hit, “Keep On Dancing”. A lightly woven sound which encompassed a soft disco edge with percussion and a few harmonies. Their 1983 release “Makin’ Music” is a return to that soft-disco feel with more of the energy which dance music acquired from the late 70s and became high energy in the 80s. This one is the same formula with a touch more of that sweetness which makes Gary’s Gang a favorite in the disco realm.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Makin’ Music” and reworked the arrangement with a new ReStructure Mix outline. More of the sequencer riffs are outlined and shaped into new breaks and drops.
