ReStructure Mix Update (3/21/21) “The Man With The 4-Way Hips” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Tom Tom Club
The Tom Tom Club is a band formed by Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads. Their big debut single “Genius Of Love” from 1981 became an instant classic for funk and alternative dance floors. Their unique style and execution always gave a groove something to study and move to. “The Man With The 4-Way Hips” is from their second album titled “Close To The Bone” from 1983. More energy in this single than their first trial gives a new drum in an Afro-theque ritual a run for the words and money. Their tale of a man whom can move to any groove makes this one a perfect contender for the bands alternative use of synthesizers and feedback. It is one of the surprises from the period and kept the band in the midst of where the 80’s had gone and was going.
I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental/dub versions of “The Man With The 4-Way Hips” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix for this tribute to The Tom Tom Club. I placed the original; percussion pieces in a new edit of breaks and some special lifted samples.
