ReStructure Mix Update (5/31/21) “Always On My Mind” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Pet Shop Boys

Pet Shop Boys are the 80’s super group in the direction of keeping dance music alive in the electronic age of synth-pop. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe were creating a new edge of music which encompassed a moody feel in many new areas and themes. In 1987 their production of a dance version of Willie Nelson’s 1982 ballad “Always On My Mind”. Quite a feat for the raised energy and sound of the new Pet Shop Boys venture with a symphonic edge layering the rolling sequencers. This one was an instant hit for the duo and for me kudos to them for taking one of the beautiful ballads and placing it on the dance floor in a whole new way.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of Pet Shop Boys’ “Always On My Mind” and rewound the recording for this ReStructure Mix. I have used more of the bass beats as a foundation for the new layout and also added a few new beats and percussion for the finishing touch.

REISSUE:  “Landslide” by Croisette – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Croisette is a disco ensemble from Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench with another rumbling 12” single titled “Landslide” from 1986. This pounding love song features the lovely vocal of Passion’s high energy diva, Tracy Ackerman. The sweet romance that seems as though it starts and ends all too quickly is one of my favorite high energy tracks of the mid-80s and plays out as dramatic as any Levine production. It is a taste of that orchestra meets the mad kettledrums.

I have taken a 70’s spoof disaster film titled “Avalanche” and could not resist taking Mia Farrow and Rock Hudson on the Disco Video Mix cliff. The 1978 campy flick leaves no room for too much suspense only a moment of disaster for Mia and Rock’s doomed romance. Clearly having too much fun.

REISSUE: "Dangerous" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Natalie Cole

Natalie Cole created quite a stir on dance floors with her high energy-dance track "Dangerous" in 1985. Produced by Gary Skardina and Marti Sharron the track was in resemblance to great 80s dance moods like The Pointer Sisters' "Jump". It was a resurgence of dance music done with the pop flare and excitement that was being generated by the clubs who were continuing to move to great music.

I have taken the 12" remix -- which was produced by Steve Thompson and created a new ReStructure Mix. There are some extended moments and or course Natalie reminding us just how "hot" this man is.

REISSUE: “Hooray For Hollywood” by The Coney Island Chorus Girls – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The Coney Island Chorus Girls is disco project from W. Michael Lewis and Laurin Rinder (El Coco, Le Pamplemousse, St. Tropez, Tuxedo Junction) and one of the disco genre of the mid 70s – discovering a standard or classic. This uplifting Hollywood parade anthem from Johnny Mercer and Richard A. Whitling gets a mild disco bass and the sassy-play chorus.

I have taken the MGM salute, “That’s Entertainment Part II” with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and painted a short but deserved montage of those big musicals that made us want to salute life in disco’s with a song and a dance!

REISSUE: "Sentimental Lover” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Milou

Milou (Michaela Schultz) is a German singer who released several synth-pop dance single from the late 80s and early 90s. This pulsating style of German pop was labeled “Asian New Wave” in the late 80s. The heavy bass synthesizers and melodic vocals were a factor in these tracks and many artists like Milou helped to keep the dance beat pounding throughout this period. “Sentimental Lover” is from 1987 and is a dreamy love song that flows in beautiful way. This one always fit into an afterhours set or early morning program.

I have taken the 12” German release using the vocal and pieces of the instrumental to layer the effective riffs into a new arrangement for this ReStructure Mix. It will fit into the Italo-disco feel of the time also – however I have always identified the deeper bass and heavy beats as its own genre much like Modern Talking.

REISSUE:“Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” by D.C. LaRue – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

D.C. Larue released his fourth album “Forces Of The Night” in 1979- produced, arranged and conducted by Mr. Bob Esty. A disco treat with the full “force” of disco music during its peak. “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” is the love anthem from this project and is also one of the moments for D.C. to comfort us with an assuring vocal during any uncertainty. It is one of my favorite songs of the time and also a moment to release that soaring spirit of love.

I have taken a strange twist on the song and blended it with the 1982 film, “Poltergeist” – starring Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. It is one of the most haunting horror films and delightfully edged with producer Steven Spielberg’s humorous touch. The disco flight moves well with the emotional and ghostly scenes.

The film was directed by Tobe Hooper (of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” fame)

REISSUE: “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Menage – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Menage is a studio disco group produced by Warren Schatz and features vocals by Ellen Bernfeld. This is one of their disco covers of pop and Broadway hits and is the cover of Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” – done in the magic formula by Warren Schatz with the deep percussion and beautiful lilting vocals. A big hit for high energy dance floors and those who prefer the disco way.

I have taken scenes from its film. “Beaches” from 1988 starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey and created a medley of scenes offering a climax to the teary-eyed ballad done disco. It is merely a tribute to the song and also a remembrance for me of a dear friend passing who reminded me that friendship is dear – thank you, Roy!

REISSUE: “Here Comes The Rain Again” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eurhythmics

REISSUE:  “Here Comes The Rain Again” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eurhythmics

Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart are Eurhythmics. This 80’s band is one of the creative forces of their time with obscure vison and takes on love and heartbreak. Initially fused as a synth-pop sound from their big hit 1982 “Sweet Dreams” their sound merged a light rock edge with the dance arena of the 80’s. “Here Comes The Rain Again” is a single from 1983 which features The British Philharmonic Orchestra on symphonic strings. The track was another surprise from the duo as it retained their eerie play with heartbreak, exquisite writing as well as Annie Lennox’s masterful vocal.

As a salute to the 80’s and the continuance of dance history I have created a new ReStructure Mix for “Here Comes The Rain Again” using the 12” extended version and instrumental. A more sweeping intro with the lush strings and a play with the synth-drums and passion of the song.

REISSUE: "When The Rain Begins To Fall” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora

REISSUE: "When The Rain Begins To Fall” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora

The 80s were a time of pop anthems in both rock and dance music. One of the most dramatic of which was formed with Jermaine Jackson and celebrity singer Pia Zadora – “When The Rain Begins To Fall” – produced by Jack White who also gave us Laura Branigan’s “Gloria”. This one is a video number that is played out like an adventure in a desert land where two lovers are destined to overcome all obstacles to be together. With Jermaine’s yearning and Pia’s sultry delivery this one powers more drama with a thumping electronic soundtrack. It is the 80s dance scene on fire.

I have taken the 12” remix version and reapplied this play into a ReStructure Mix with more high energy riffs and segments to play out with more exaggerated emotion. Thunder claps and rolling sequencers make this remix a stage powerhouse. The duet has not lost its stars – Pia and Jermaine are clinging to each other throughout this number still.

REISSUE: “Rain” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Goombay Dance Band

REISSUE:  “Rain” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Goombay Dance Band

Goombay Dance Band is a German dance band whose single “Rain” from 1980 brought the hardcore disco/club scene to life once again. Recreating the sound of disco music for the 80’s with a full on take on fantasy and stage presence – very similar to bands like Boney M. The band released projects with their Caribbean sound echoing throughout tracks which many fit the direction in where dance music was becoming empowered once again. The production by Jochen Petersen is also assisted by Michael Cretu (Sandra, Enigma) here and work with nice results as displayed in “Rain”.

I have taken the 12” version of “Rain” and focused on a dub/instrumental take for this ReStructure Mix. The pounding drums and heavy synth and chorus parts are still intact here even through the original is stretched into a new arrangement.

REISSUE: “Stormy Weather” by Viola Wills – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

REISSUE: “Stormy Weather” by Viola Wills – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Viola Wills is a talented vocalist with a long run with the recording industry beginning in the mid-60s and then onto the late 70s becoming one of disco music’s well-known divas. During 1979 Viola emerged with one of the classic disco records from the period – a dance cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “If You Could Read My Mind”.

In 1982 Viola released a cover of “Stormy Weather” – a dance cover of 1933 song originally recorded by Ethel Waters – and then featured in a film by the same name – sung my Lena Horne.

I have taken the 1943 musical and combined the stage and choreography with the disco version by Viola Wills. The wonderful sequences of the title song are merged along with the disco mood and a few touches of the dancing sequences.

The film was directed by Andrew L. Stone

ReStructure Mix Update (5/29/21) “High” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Skyy

Skyy is a New York City funk/disco group produced by Randy Mueller (formerly of Brass Construction). The band included Anibal Sierra, Bonny Dunning, Delores Dunning Milligan and Denise Dunning Crawford with a sound that became the New York funk explosion and later fused the early 80’s with the Prelude label funk era. “High” is from their 1980 album “Skyway” and is a love anthem with many wonderful riffs which explain how this band and Randy Mueller were able to make them an icon and now classic band. The track is one of their signature numbers that not only lays out their ability to create a groove but also bring back the disco-funk era in full.

I have taken the album version of “High” and reworked the track for this ReStructure Mix and homage to the Skyy-sound. The beats are given some new tread with some percussion and the arrangement is separated for a lengthier message.

REISSUE: "Hell Dance With Me" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Cappuccino

From the fantastic production by Danilo Vaona - Cappuccino blends a mystique in "Hell Dance With Me" - the sensual and lustful vocals fit an early morning dance mix well. The project was released in 1980 and features a wonderful disco-fied production including the underground hit, "Tomorrow".

I have taken the track and made a mere fantasy of a dark aura. Adding a few riffs from Ennio Morricone's "Magic and Ecstasy" theme from "The Exorcist II: The Heretic" soundtrack to fit the devious mood.

REISSUE: "Super Extra Sexy Sign" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kano

REISSUE: "Super Extra Sexy Sign" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kano

Kano is an Italian disco project featuring Luciano Ninzatti, Stefano Pulga and Matteo Bonsanto. The sound of Italo-disco hit the roof with their big 1980 hit “I’m Ready”. It was a sound that came from space somewhere or an altar of dance worship. The album was one of the great electronic episodes from the band in the early high energy vein.

“Super Extra Sexy Sign” is one of the singles from the project which was released as a single and made big impact with its keyboard drama and strange vocal incantations. I have taken the 12” version and have given it a new way of feeling – using the intro keyboards to emphasize the groove of the little gem.

REISSUE: “Love In 'C' Minor" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Cerrone

Euro-disco was born in 1976 when "Love In 'C' Minor" was composed by Alec R. Costandinos and Cerrone.

This masterpiece has all of disco music's most authentic pieces rolled into one movement. Funky bass lines, string emsembles and a sexy chorus featuring Joanne Williams, Stephanie De Skyes,Madeline Bell, Jackie Sullivan and Jean Hawker.

This is a ReStructure to pull the pieces apart and place them in a new order - a new percussion riff floats below the perfection in the original.

REISSUE:  “Come Inside My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bonnie Oliver

Bonnie Oliver is a disco artist who released an underground disco track titled “Come Inside My Love” in 1979 – produced by Wiley Hicks who also produced Ednah Holt and Starluv’s “People Come Dance” and “Ain’t Got Time” by Holt ’45. This piece of hardcore and psychedelic disco is one of the choices for many after-hours spots where the dancers are pulled deep into the mix and trance-like energy of disco. It has always been one of my favorite arenas of hardcore dance music.

I have taken the original 12” vocal and instrumental to walk down a ReStructure Mix path with a lengthy piece of funky guitar breaks and weaving synthesizer breaks. The original EQ is bit flat which differs from both original recordings so I decided to recreate an airy Patrick Cowley-ish feel with the rework. It is the master road to ecstasy for those special dance floor moments and it could have continued on for a longer adventure – but here it is!

REISSUE: "Come Inside" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Fancy

REISSUE: "Come Inside" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Fancy

Fancy (Manfred Alois Segith) is a German disco singer and producer who also produced under the name Tess Teiges (Timerider, Slip). His disco project Fancy is one of the memorable arenas of the 80s high energy and electronic disco stage. Many of the tracks share a hypnotic and driving rhythm and sexy mood. An appropriate return to a new sound of disco music with a complete overhaul on production and execution. “Come Inside” is a single released as a B-side to his 1984 release “Slice Me Nice”. It shares a familiar synthesizer riff used by The Professionals on “Law Of The Land” which was borrowed from the original track recorded by The Temptations.

“Come Inside” is presented in this ReStructure Mix in a playful and new way using pieces from two disco classics adding more of an invitation. It is reworked using the “American Remix #1” by Bob Beat Me Black and Terror from the Personal Records release. A few more sleazy moments are added to keep the sensual feel of the song alive and a new energy added.

ReStructure Mix Update (5/28/21) “Disco Squeeze” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Extensive Care

Extensive Care is a disco ensemble from producer Peter Di Milo – the master who brought us early underground club disco from Erotic Drum Band and also pieces from Ann Joy and The Pussycats.  Extensive Care is one of his early 80’s releases and makes disco music as exciting as it was during the mid-70’s. The fast rolling energy of this piece titled, “Disco Squeeze” is a workout for the feet and again gives Di Milo his creative freedom to give the disco chorus more than a place for fantasy. This one is from start to finish the high energy sound which became the crescendo of the disco era.

I have taken the album version of “Disco Squeeze” and rerouted the energy into this ReStructure Mix. The percussion riffs are broken down throughout the new arrangement and more placement of the excitement is created.

REISSUE: "Give It To Me Baby” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rick James

Rick James began a recording career in 1978 with his group Stone City Band and soon became the new face and sound of funk. A hard hitting style of dance music which incorporated a touch of the deep percussion of disco and his “punk funk” edged guitars and grooves. His 1981 album “Street Songs” was his sixth release and one of his more memorable with two dance tracks, “Super Freak” and “Give It To Me Baby” which played out on dance floors as a return to the sound which James is known for. “Give It To Me” is a bass driven dance track which emulates a riff from Kleeer’s “Keep Your Body Workin’” – but with some new elements which make it its own.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Give It To Me Baby” and created a new ReStructure Mix with a psychedelic disco wah-wah guitar leading the mix. The extension of all that is great in this song are the focus and some play on words and of course Rick James’ genius.

REISSUE: "Blow Up The D.J.” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – TNT Clan

REISSUE: "Blow Up The D.J.” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – TNT Clan

TNT Clan is a new beat/Belgium Beat project from the masters of the genre – Herman Gillis, Jo Casters and Roland Beelen – better known as Morton Sherman Bellucci. This style of dance music rejuvenated the artistic and rhythmic edge of dance music and may have been inspired by “Pump Up The Volume” by M.A.R.R.S. from 1987. Many of the pieces that are a conglomerate of New Beat feature simple yet heavy bass beat riffs – disco, hip-hop, street, rock or house and transformed into a sample foundation for various hidden or strange messages. Many are sexual and are to the extreme of sampling porn film sounds or sexually suggestive phrases. The overhaul of the mixes are the success of New Beat as many were stripped down and EQ’ed with the sharp and deep recording that presented a polished product.

“Blow Up The D.J.” is one of my favorite tracks in the New Beat genre not only the usage of the classic disco track by Kiss (“I Was Made For Loving You”) but it also signifies the “Pump Up The Volume” influence. This ReStructure Mix is to pay homage to this style of dance music which I followed by ear with dedication but also found it as a rejuvenation of dance music in the late 80s and its influence during the early 90s dance scene.

REISSUE: “Don’t You Want My Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Nicole

REISSUE: “Don’t You Want My Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Nicole

Nicole (Lillie Arlene Nicole Jade McCloud) is one of the exciting voices of the mid-80’s dance movement. Her first solo album titled “What About Me?” is one of the productions from Lou Pace (Donna Allen, Stacy Lattisaw, Joy and Pain). The single from the project titled “Don’t You Want My Love” are one of the explosions of the dance floor during the period. It encompassed the energy of the pop-80’s dance scene and also along with Nicole enticing vocal makes this one a bomb. One of the floor-packers in my club and amidst the energy there was always the recollection of watching the hard hitting horns take on a reaction from the crowd. This one is a promise of lasting energy since there is no way to put it out.

I have taken the 12’ vocal and dub of “Don’t You Want My Love” and reworked a new found energy in this ReStructure Mix. The synth pieces are aligned more as the foundation and the kick-ass beats are the motivation now. It has always been one of my favorites and now expressed in a club feel environment.

REISSUE: "Body" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Jacksons

REISSUE: "Body" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Jacksons

The Jacksons topped the pop/dance sound of the 80s along with the slick production of Michael and Marlon Jackson. The big release of the “Victory” album in 1984 introduced another layer of sounds and images for The Jacksons. Tracks like “Torture” and “State Of Shock” were remedies to move towards an area to be discovered. “Body” is one of the singles that pulls the Michael Jackson magic along with the chorus of the very talented band.

I have taken the 12” of “Body” and have given it a new ReStructure Mix breaking down some of the mood in my own way. Extending it with more of the verses and some borrowed percussion and essentials from an earlier hit by Michael

REISSUE: "Are You Ready” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Billy Ocean

REISSUE: "Are You Ready” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Billy Ocean

Billy Ocean is a voice from the 80s which is fitting in both dance music and adult contemporary genres. His voice is a gentle and yearning effect which always brings each of his songs to a new level of emotion. In his years of taking dance floors by storm which began with his 1980 album “City Lights” there was a mature groove being set for a sophisticated dance floor. “Are You Ready” is a single which was produced by Ken Gold has the finesse that Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Something” from 1982 resembled. This piece is the funk of the 80s with a flawless production which displays a great memory in time and another to appreciate this great artist.

I have taken the US 12” of “Are You Ready” and recreated a new dance step and answer for the question. A sample from an obvious Italo-disco classic is inserted as a teaser and play on this ReStructure Mix. The outline is set for a trip back to the early 80s with more of the excitement that is created for those of us who were there.

REISSUE: "Dance With Me" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Peter Brown

Peter Brown's classic disco album "A Fantasy Love Affair" continues to be one the most exciting recordings in disco history. The big disco wave could find this record on the crest!

I have taken the LP version of "Dance With Me" and created a ReStructure Mix for a whole new dance montage - dedicated to Mr. Peter Brown for his incredible talent.

REISSUE: “I Wanna Dance” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Marathon

REISSUE: “I Wanna Dance” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Marathon

Marathon is a disco project from producer, Pete Bellotte – who also produced Donna Summer, Joy Fleming, Trax, Roberta Kelly and Marsha Hunt. The studio project was featured in the 1978 film soundtrack, “Thank God It’s Friday” with the many Casablanca artists who made the disco scene colorful with their sounds which matured from the mid to late 70s. Marathon plays out like the disco chorus groups which were more of an ensemble used to create the sound each producer envisioned. Here with the only single from the group is “I Wanna Dance” – which you can imagine was conceived to outline the excitement of the films homage to disco and Friday nights. The emotion and energy is certainly alive here and plays out with the syncopated horns blaring out a Spanish feel with plenty of percussion leading the way.

I have taken the soundtrack version and recreated a new ReStructure Mix which plays more into the hands of a breakdown mix. Using many of the riffs to fill in a new arrangement for this new remix. The chorus and lush strings are a bit more controlled and placed in segments to bring the breaks another breath of fresh air.

REISSUE: “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston took the 80s in her hands and heart with many of her ballads and pop-dance tracks. Not long after her first recording with Michael Zager Band on his “Life’s A Party” album did the voice of this chanteuse let the world know of its power. Her second album was another big surprise featuring the pop dance single “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” – produced by Narada Michael Walden. A smash for Whitney and those many fans that were becoming dependent on her music.

I have taken the 12” versions of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and took the pop-edge deeper into the percussion and beats. The dub was one of the echoing of the house movement where the beats became the foundation for a mix. This ReStructure Mix is a part of the 80s edition to celebrate the period which continued to keep the disco aura alive.

REISSUE: "Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Paradise Express

Herb Jimmerson and Vi Ann created a moment in disco music that will never be forgotten. Many recorded tracks are often looked at as classic disco recordings.

Their first LP contained "Dance" - a cover of Paul Jabara's signature track. This version moves the song into the electronic fusion of disco music and it's innovative feel. Jimmerson created music with a dreamy essence and hardcore rhythm and along with the fantastic vocals of Vi Ann the tracks still move and influence.

I have ReStructured "Dance" with a whole new intro and arrangement - it is my homage to a place in disco music that will remain intact.

Dedicated to Vi Ann and her family :)

REISSUE: "I've Got The Next Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Deniece Williams

REISSUE: "I've Got The Next Dance" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Deniece Williams

The 1979 disco hit, "I've Got The Next Dance" by Deniece Williams was produced when disco music was at it's highest in dance energy. It was an exciting time.

This production by David Foster (Average White Band's "Let's Go Round Again") a multi-award winning producer, arranger and composer. It is obvious that he placed every effort in this project. And with a 12" version mixed by Mr. Jim Burgess, this track was as polished as disco music could get.

I have taken the 12" track and arranged it as if it were meant for a dance marathon for the track itself. Adding only a few more beats and some percussion to pull even more energy from the track.

ReStructured for Alan - "The dance does go on, Alan."

ReStructure Mix Update (5/26/21) “Jealous Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Hazell Dean

ReStructure Mix Update (5/26/21) “Jealous Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Hazell Dean

Hazell Dean is another voice in the early 80’s who brought high energy music to the board. Her 1983 dance floor hit “Searchin’ (I Gotta Find A Man)” was a contribution to that period of dance music and helped make the transition a welcomed moment. Hazell had been recording since 1975 and made her move onto dance floors seem somewhat effortless – but there is plenty of talent behind this woman. “Jealous Love” is her single from 1983 produced by Willi Morrison and Ian Guenther – who were responsible for THP Orchestra, The Grand Tour, The Duncan Sisters, Southern Comfort and Sticky Fingers. This was also their moment to transition from their big band disco productions of the 70’s into the electronic high energy sound of the 80’s. “Jealous Love” is a last-chance for romance for a lover who makes every opportunity for drama. The sequencers and percolating keyboard effects make this one a flowing number with enough of the diva to make us connect to its force.

I have taken the 12” version of “Jealous Love” and reworked the track with more of a dub-feel for this ReStructure Mix. There is a new under beat to kick up the drama and of course the sequencers working again, overtime!

Georgio is a musician, arranger and producer with music that explored a pop/funk and house formula – using heavy bass synthesizers to create dance tracks for the ever-changing dance floor of the late 80s. His 1987 single “Bedrock” is one of the most contagious of his repertoire and although the theme is a bit more intimate I have extended the fantasy a bit further for this Disco Video Mix.

“The Flintstones” is a live-action feature based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon – it stars John Goodman, Rick Moranis and Rosie O’Donnell – it is the fun and crazy action in this Disco Video Mix.

The film was directed by Brian Levant

Producer Marcus Barone brought the studio band The Ring to life with their underground hit, "Savage Lover" - quite a mover and shaker. Long before a trance life feel was outlined in disco music "Savage Lover" brought the hypnotic and alluring feel of jungle percussion to life.

It has always been a dramatic moment for dance floors and even more so now with the accompanying of the 1976 film, "King Kong" with Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges. The story always outlined a great love between beauty and the beast - or perhaps an understanding. But it is now more "savage" than ever.

The film was directed John Guillermin - the original version of "King Kong" was released in 1933 and starred Fay Wray.

This Disco Video Mix concept is dedicated to my niece, Theresa - thanks for keeping the song, as odd as it is, alive!

Eastbound Expressway released their first single in 1976 - they continued throughout the high-energy period of the 80's. "Primitive Desire" being their 1983 single release with a jungle flavor and theme.

The song was produced by Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench for Record Shack

I have taken the 1981 film, "Tarzan, the Ape Man" starring Bo Derek, Miles O'Keefe and Richard Harris to complete the visual for the Disco Video Mix. The scenes are quite funny to see now - as they were looked at as John and Bo Derek's travel movies. The film was not a hit - but only a vehicle for Bo's sensuality and poise - which works well for this mix.

REISSUE: "Salsoul 3001" by The Salsoul Orchestra - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

From their 1976 LP "Nice 'N' Nasty" comes "Salsoul 3001" - Produced arranged conducted by Vincent Montana, Jr.

Disco music was always capable of taking past musical compositions and create a nice flowing orchestration of them. As with "Also sprach Zarathustra" composed by Richard Strauss in 1896. Deodato also recreated it with a funk and soul tempo and also won a Grammy for it in 1973.

The Salsoul Orchestra places it's disco arrangement with heavy percussion, horns and strings within this recording - it is magic for dancers.

Taking scenes from the zany 1981 film, "Caveman" starring Ringo Starr, Dennis Quaid, Shelley Long and Barbara Bach. It was directed by Carl Gottlieb (screenplay for "Jaws"). It is a crazy look at prehistoric times - mixing man and dinosaurs together. Quite silly but a better look at our past than most traditional beliefs.

"Primitive Love" was released on Jet Records from England in 1982. It was the start for disco singer Ellie Warren. The cut did not do so well in your standard club, but was the perfect early morning sleaze cut for hardcore dance halls. This video rendition features clips from the Raquel Welch 60's action film, "One Million Years B.C." - it outlines how any girl in a 2-piece fur ensemble survives for love.

Punch is a German synth-pop group from producer Rainer Streubel. Their 1985 single “Love Me” is one of the high energy favorites of the period and flows with heavy synthesizers and plenty of electronic percussion to work any dance floor waiting. The track has a sweet melodic chorus which plays off well to its all most nu-wave vocal during the verses. It is one high energy piece that pounds a “punch” if you will pardon the pun.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Love Me” and recreated a new ReStructure Mix to bring this gem back to mind. The arrangement is looped in parts and the guts of the song are broken into new breaks.

Charity is a project from Fonny De Wulf (Rofo) featuring a lovely vocal by Karie Hillery. This high energy track from 1985 is a standard for the time period of heavy percussion and simple, yet intricate keyboards.

A very "sweet" love song which featured a version in Spanish on the B-side (sung by Carlos Perez) - I have ReStructured the track using the B-side as a dreamy residue to the original. This remix features allot of new pieces added and placed among the song for a fresh feeling.

Stephanie Wells is a Canadian disco artists from producers Gino D’ Orazio and Tony Bentivegna (Nightlife Unlimited) and released one album titled “Fools In Love”. A big stamp on the Canadian disco import label Tojo Records in 1983 where much of the electronic dance tracks were creating a stir again on dance floors. This was the dawning of high energy music which was given its name since the electronic sound produced a nonstop rolling edge. “Whatcha’ Gonna Do” is that disco vein where the beautiful vocal is the top of level of the track and the swirling sounds created with keyboards and sequencers are the orchestral foundation. It is the return to the underground feel of disco music where the rhythm was the true essence.

I have taken the 12” version of “Whatcha’ Gonna Do” and worked a new ReStructure Mix not only extending the beauty of its lyrical verses but adding a new intro and breaks. The keyboard synth is extended the way I hear it in my head and the chorus still shines. A great track that helped to save the dance floors again in the early 80s with a return to the disco passion that had not yet ended.
