Greg Kihn Band is a 70’s group whose 1983 track “Jeopardy” gave them a #2 spots on the Billboard 100 chart. The song is a funky groove with the band feeding into the possibility of an affair about to end. An 80’s feel all together in the powerful crossover feel of rhythm guitars and igniting choruses. The fantastic approach at the dance market was a huge movement from many rock and pop groups and the outcome in the best is a single like this.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Jeopardy” and reframed the song for this ReStructure Mix. A new layout for the foundation with more of the electronics leading the path into the ill-begotten theme.

Praga Khan is Maurice Joseph Francois Engelen - a Belgium producer who worked on several New Beat projects during the late 80’s and early 90’s. Some of his most memorable were Lords Of Acid and Jade 4 U - it was a new style of music created with the heavy electronic feel dominating the arrangements. “Bula Bula” is a 1989 single with a house touch used among the samples of the rock n’ roll classic “Wully Bully” by Sam and The Sham which was released in 1964 and also percussion pieces from Issac Hayes “Theme from Shaft” from 1971. The outrageous bass elements bounce back and forth like a beach ball creating a rhythmic edge for this piece. It is one of the early New Beat/Belgium tracks which helped to make the genre one of the successful alternative dance sounds of the period.

I have taken the 12” version of “Bula Bula” and reconfigured the theme into a new ReStructure Mix along with more of the original samples. There are breakdowns of the original keyboards in pieces to give way to a whole new experience.

Norma Jean is a disco/soul vocalist who is also known as one of the members of Chic. Her solo career began in 1978 with her self-titled project which included the hit singles “Saturday” and “Sorcerer” - both produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers. “High Society” is a single released in 1979 and again has the deep bass guitar magic of Chic and the classic edge of the feat to make it to the top of success. The riff of the song is the chorus which flows like a magic proverb taking us into the groove that Edwards/Rogers so magnificently worked. The string section are the disco sweeping effects that made the dance floor sway and move throughout the 70’s. A great track and also one of my favorites in this genre.

I have taken the 12” version of “High Society” and worked on a new ReStructure Mix with a few new add-ins. A funky drum pattern that helps to bring the bass to a new excitement and an updated arrangement to bring happiness to those who know this track all together.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/18/24):”Breakin’...There’s No Stopping Us” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Ollie and Jerry

Ollie and Jerry are Jerry Knight and Ollie Brown - a duo who have both performed as artists and produced many artists. Their contribution to the soundtrack for the 1984 street-dance film “Breakin’” is the main theme “Breakin’...There’s No Stopping Us” and was written and produced by both. This inspiring piece is a beat-box driven track which bumps and pounds in and out of every chorus. It is a positive feel which gives off the 80’s challenges which became the spotlight for many dance featured films. Production is a full on electronic arrangement with the soulful vocals of both Ollie and Jerry lending their efforts to spread a positive vibe at the dancefloor.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Breakin’...There’s No Stopping Us” and realigned those street-beats in new areas for this ReStructure Mix. The layout features more of the instrumentation to fill in the energy here and the intro and fade giveaway to a touch of dance drama.

Elaine Charles is a high energy artist from Canada founded by Louis Toteda and her 1987 single “Lay It On The Line” being one of her big dance floor hits. The track was produced by Teneen Ali and was mixed down by The Golden Boys using the sample riffs to emphasize its power. The song is an ultimatum drawn by our heroine who knows something is going on behind the scenes with her relationship and she wants to know now. It is a fast moving piece that never gives up from start to finish and one of the crossover tracks of the time from Canadian label to US.

I have taken the 12” vocal and dub of “Lay It On The Line” and reworked the energy for this new ReStructure Mix. Adding a longer new fade-in intro and also taking advantage of those wonderful percussion layers.

ReStructure Mix Update (10/13/24):”Blade Runner” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Remake

Remake is a techno dance project from Adriano Dodici, Alex Neri, Marco Baroni and Mr. Muzak - and also a full dedication to the trancescene of the early 90’s. Their 1992 release “Blade Runner” is a dance interpretation of the Vangelis soundtrack to the sci-fi epic by the same name. This single has echoes of the 70’s electronic age ignited by Giorgio Moroder with moments where his “Chase” comes to mind. There is a unique outline where the recognizable melody from the film becomes the touch of what is needed to make this one work. There are several sequencers which plot out the rhythm and pull this one in and out of segments into breaks.

I have taken the 12” versions of Remake’s “Blade Runner” and laid out a few new mementos for this ReStructure Mix. I also added pieces of the original soundtrack by Vangelis and a few samples from the film to point this in the right direction.
