ReStructure Mix Update (12/22/24):”On The Beach Tonight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cruisin’ Gang

Cruisin’ Gang is Laura Fadinger, Ombretta Marsigli and Sabrina Morroya - an Italo- disco project from 1983 produced by Cruisin’ Records. Their music is a full on electronic production complete with layers of percussion and some break beats along the way. Their single “On The Beach Tonight” from 1984 is a lyrical piece that gives off the light hearted sound of Italian disco music during the early 80’s. It has a childlike ensemble hom serenade  celebration at the shore following a hectic and pressured day. The piece has many nice segments which flow into a small adventure as the keyboard riffs change their playfulness. It is one of the singles from Cruisin’ Gang which stands out among their wonderful repertoire.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “On The Beach Tonight” and have given it a new ReStructure Mix to add to their talents. I have spread the melodic pieces of the song  throughout most of the mix and added a few new breaks.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/21/24):”Strange Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode is an English electronic band from 1980 consisting of Alan Wilder, Andrew Fletcher, Dave Gahan, Martin L. Gore and Vince Clarke. Their music was a heavy influence on the 80’s and began on dance floors and in speakers. “Strange Love” is a track from their 1987 project “Music For The Masses” - produced by David Bascombe, Daniel Miller and Depeche Mode. The years passed and Depeche Mode always fit in with their incredible use of phrases and potpourri of keyboard sounds. “Strange Love” is a moody piece reflecting on how a relationship works on the edge creating questions and pain. It is one of the tracks which I played most of DP and still resonates as a mystique in sound and words. A common left feeling front this talented ensemble.

I have taken the Maxi Mix of “Strange Love” and reworked the funked out rhythm tracks again in this ReStructure Mix. The flow of this new arrangement is a construction zone of brick after brick. A few new additions on percussion are pieced in as parsley on a fine piece main course.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/20/24):”Communication” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Duncans

The Duncans are Phyllis and Helen Duncan (The Duncan Sisters) - who were also Sticky Fingers and the vocal ensemble on the second THP project. Produced by Willi Morrison and Ian Guenther these ladies took the end of the 70s prisoner with the first solo album which included their anthem “Sadness In My Eye”. “Communication” comes from their second solo project where their name change becomes The Duncans. Once again produced by THP this project is a bit more stripped yet still has that incredible sound of these ladies. The track “Communication” gives them another opportunity to harmonize with a few choruses and segues into the heartbreak here and gives off that soaring feeling that these women always created vocally.

I have taken the album version of “Communication” and reconfigured the existing keyboard riffs and horns for this ReStructure Mix. The new outline gives us more of their vocal performance to move us into that lingering and satisfying edge that seems to work well with disco music.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/18/24):”Born To Be Wild” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Jo-Carol with Modern Rocketry

Jo-Carol began her career in dance music as one of Patrick Cowley’s singers included in his big hits “Menergy” and “I Wanna Take You Home” from 1981. Her vocals are also on the 1987 cover of Steppenwolf’s 1968 rock classic “Born To Be Wild”. Creating the percolating sound of this track are the San Francisco ensemble Modern Rocketry. This is one of the last breaths of classic high energy with that Frisco sound. This cover gives us a pumping edge which plays out with a nice feel for the rough excitement. Jo-Carol has been involved in many of her own singles during and prior to this track as well as her participation in the duo Jo-Lo (“Last Call”). The energy here is a powerhouse delivery and gives a dance version of the rock classic a nice feel.

I have taken the 12” version of Jo-Carol/Modern Rocketry’s cover of “Born To Be Wild” and built a new ReStructure Mix for this Megatone classic. The sequencers guide most of the new arrangement into a few new breaks.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/17/24):”Running In The City” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Space

Space is a disco ensemble formulated by Didier Marouani and Roland Romanelli in the late 70s. Their second project titled “Deliverance” from 1977 features the instrumental track “Running In The City” which is an early blend of electronic dance music and new age. The keyboards blend an orchestral flow of lilting emulated strings and give off an ethereal sound. Much of Space and their sound was based on the futuristic ideas of time to come and their music fit directly into this mold all together.

I have taken the album version of “Running In The City” and placed it in this project for a new ReStructure Mix. A new hard throbbing beat and percussion are added to stir the keyboards into a new sensation. The flow of the track is blended into new segments also.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/16/24):”Japanese War Game” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Koto

Koto is an Italian dance project from Anfrando Maiola and produced by Stefano Cundari. One of the early 80s projects which helped to define Italo-disco in its entirety. “Japanese War Game” is their second release from 1983 which is a short edged instrumental which plays heavier on the bass keyboards and sequencer riffs. The formula that Koto began its dance floor experience is played here in this arrangement with the breakdowns and electronic crescendos.

I have taken the 12” version and dub version of “Japanese War Game” and reinvented a new ReStructure Mix to solidify this sound from the 80s. New percussion is added alongside a new segue into the layered keyboard melody.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/15/24):”No Parking On The Dance Floor” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Midnight Star

Midnight Star is one of the 80’s headliner funk/dance bands. Their 1983 project and single titled “No Parking On The Dance Floor” is a dance floor classic among the many releases in this genre at the time. Produced by Reggie Calloway, this album shined with its far-edged electronic funk sound. The track is a mechanical simulated arrangement and plays out with the interruption of a vehicle attempting to park in the middle of the floor where this party will not have it. It plays out with a great deal of fun and riffs and it is a part of the Midnight Star repertoire that is timeless.

I have taken the 12” version of “No Parking On The Dance Floor” and rewired the track for this ReStructure Mix. A new downbeat track is added to give segments of this remix a new edge. And plenty of the vocoder riffs are used again as breaks and segues.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/13/24):”Hold Me Tight” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – B.B. and Band

B.B. and Band is an Italian dance group who released their first project titled “Wee The People” in 1982 - produced by Mario Boncaldo and Tony Carrasco. The uplifting edge to their dance tracks made an instant hit on dance floors including “All Night Long” and “That Special Magic”. In 1984 their single “Hold Me Tight” gave us another energetic dance piece which displayed the lighter side of their approach and celebratory sound. This number has several nice riffs including a pounding drum rhythm which sounds at home on any dance floor. B.B. and Band gave the mid-80s more reasons to feel the excitement which dance music always delivered.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental versions of “Hold Me Tight” and weaved the Latin guitars and drums into a new ReStructure Mix. There are a few new parts that are separated in this new arrangement and a cold ending to end the celebration.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/12/24):”Come And Get Your Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Boys Town Gang

Boys Town Gang is a San Francisco based disco ensemble produced by Bill Motley in 1981. Their first big single was a cover of the Motown classic, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and Diana Ross’ “Remember Me” which featured Cynthia Manley on vocals. “Come And Get Your Love” is a cover of the Redbone pop-hit from 1973/ This production included Jackson Moore on lead vocals and is from their second album titled “Disc Charge”. The disco fluff here flows like magic as Motley was determined to bring the full orchestral and band sound of disco back to the early 80’s. The guitar riffs and excited chorus are the lead in on this remake and although it plays out a bit faster than the original it still gives off that 70s disco energy.

I have taken the album version of Boys Town Gang “Come And Get Your Love” and we aligned the track with a new arrangement for this ReStructure Mix. Some looping play on the original bass create new breaks and the wonderful vocals from Jackson still shine.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/10/24):”I Took His Money” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Hott City

Hott City is a disco project from producers Jeffrey Parsons and Jeffrey Steinberg - who also created the project Cut Glass (“Without Your Love). Their album “Ain’t Love Grand” from 1979 is the process of disco music throughout the seventies and maturing into arrangements which were more electronic enhanced. The vocalists on “I Took His Money” are Mildred Vaney and Ortheia Barnes who also created a stir as Cut Glass. The hard edged theme here where desperation leads to a sexual act for finance is played out here with the direct and effectiveness in the sound of this piece. It is a part of the now classic project which makes the 70s complete before passing into the 80s dance scene.

I have taken the album version of “I Took His Money” and placed it back again on the floor for this ReStructure Mix. A heavy beat is added to guide the energy back into its place and a few new breaks.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/9/24):”Gimme The Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Kinky Go

Kinky Go is an Italian dance project from the late 80’s - produced by Danilo Bastoni, Danilo Bastoni and Gianni Salvatori/ Their 1986 track “Gimme The Love” is a retro take on the Bronski Beat high energy sound and vocal delivery. It is as moody and somewhat odd in its delivery yet it plays out well in the high energy realm. The electronic arrangement is a full orchestral like edge that peaks and then winds down into a hypnotic new age feel. The energy is full of what the 80’s were all about and this one made a huge mark for those clubs who continued to celebrate the high energy sound of dance music.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Gimme The Love” and reworked a new version for this ReStructure Mix. I used the verses a few times scattered throughout this new arrangement and created a new fade that follows the path of the keyboards that haunt this song.

ReStructure Mix Update (12/7/24):”You Feel My Love” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Evans and Fisher

Evans and Fisher are an Italian house/dance duo who moved onto the scene in the late 80’s and created a blend of heavy synthesizers and deep house-like grooves. “You Feel My Love” is their 1989 release which moves erratic with its key-riffs which pull off that energetic layer of high energy. The vocals are presented in an over anxious delivery where a love interest becomes insistent. There are moments in the song where those swirling electronic strings bring us back to the disco era and then pull us right back into the 80s high energy feel.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “You Feel My Love” and rewired the song again for this ReStructrure Mix. The new arrangement uses more of the keyboard movements for a longer sense of ecstasy for our new remix.
