Jo-Carol began her career in dance music as one of Patrick Cowley’s singers included in his big hits “Menergy” and “I Wanna Take You Home” from 1981. Her vocals are also on the 1987 cover of Steppenwolf’s 1968 rock classic “Born To Be Wild”. Creating the percolating sound of this track are the San Francisco ensemble Modern Rocketry. This is one of the last breaths of classic high energy with that Frisco sound. This cover gives us a pumping edge which plays out with a nice feel for the rough excitement. Jo-Carol has been involved in many of her own singles during and prior to this track as well as her participation in the duo Jo-Lo (“Last Call”). The energy here is a powerhouse delivery and gives a dance version of the rock classic a nice feel.
I have taken the 12” version of Jo-Carol/Modern Rocketry’s cover of “Born To Be Wild” and built a new ReStructure Mix for this Megatone classic. The sequencers guide most of the new arrangement into a few new breaks.
