Pico is a disco
project from producer Mort Garson and on the classic disco label West End
Records from 1979. This disco-fied take on the Mexican classic is an
underground feel with the mix by Studio 54 DJ Manny Slali. A nice and clever
arrangement with the Latin sound intact with much of Garson’s electronic vibe
accompanying the glide along. Many may remember Mort Garson’s “Disco UFO” from
1978 by Captain D.J. where he placed his heavy sequencers to the test along
with a funky rap – this is a further journey onto the disco dance floors for
his talent.
I have taken the
12” version of “Malagueña” and recreated a ReStructure Mix for the flamenco
dancer in us all. It plays out with a touch of the version by Western Horizon
for a real dive into the Latin edge.
