Mary Jane Girls are a group who began as back-up singers for his touring and eventually became one of his protégé with a few dance floor hits on their hands. Members included Candice Ghant, Cheri Wells, Joanne McDuffie, Kim Wuletich, Lisa Sarna, Tabby Johnson, Val Young and Yvette Marine. Their 1983 hit “Candy Man” gave the female ensemble the break they needed although much of the funky innuendos and grooves were solid as Rick himself polished. “Boys” is from their first album simply titled “Mary Jane Girls” and is one of the tracks that playout in the flavor these gals exude. A sexy and funky play with the way “boys” affects their wellbeing and the street smarts to handle these toys.
I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental of “Boys” and re-funked a new version for this ReStructure Mix. A new bass rocky beat is added to take hold of the funk and shake it up some more. There is also more of the bridge that flows like the sexiness this gal group is well known for.
