ReStructure Mix Update (3/28/23): “Conga” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Miami Sound Machine
Miami Sound Machine is a Latin American band founded by band leader, Emilio Estefan, Jr. in 1977 –the band went on to continue and soon acquired lead vocalist Gloria Fajardo, later becoming Gloria Estefan and branching off to a solo career. “Conga” is one of the first major singles from 1985 their project titled “Primitive Love”. The track became very popular in the club circuits and revived a Latin dance edge that was missing in the pop realm. It is one of the celebratory pieces which evolved in its own sound and is still one of the staples of the dance era of the 80s.
I have taken the 12” vocal and dib versions of “Conga” and re-invigorated the piece for this ReStructure Mix. A bit more of the piano sections are given the stage here along with more of Gloria’s captivating vocals.
