REISSUE: “Only Star” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Aretha Franklin

REISSUE: “Only Star” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Aretha Franklin Aretha Franklin released her album “La Diva” in 1979 which featured the self-written track “Only Star” produced by Van McCoy. This album was a disco promise which many artists and producers made a move on when disco music was at its peak. “Only Star” spells out what made disco an extreme period of time. Being the star on the dance floor became the escape for many who found pleasure and excitement under the flashing lights – it was a Broadway play with “you” as the star. This track feels like the pop-edge of disco music and features Sharon Brown, Zulema Cusseaux and Van McCoy on backing vocals. A nice little diversion from the Queen of Soul and a nice way to hear that powerful and moving voice in a disco arrangement. I have taken the album version of “Only Star” and transformed Aretha’s composition into a ReStructure Mix with a touch of electronic help. A heavy new percussion track and some synth effects bring the rhythm down to a dub-like feel. The Queen Lives On!
