Bar-Kays are a
soul/funk band from the late 60’s who recorded the 1966 hit “Soul Finger” and
carried their careers throughout2007. One of their best known electro-funk
pieces is “Funky Behavior” from their 1981 album “Nightcrusiing” – produced by
Allen A. Jones. A nice cross between the nu-wave edge with funk and heading a
new stream of dance music into the 80’s. The track is a bit similar to Rick
James’ “Super Freak” and may have followed the success and lure – but it still
contains its own magic and hard hitting funk appeal.
I have taken the
12” version of “Freaky Behavior” and have worked on a ReStructure Mix to pay
homage to the 80’s synth-pop and electro—funk period. It has some new drums and
street beats to bring out the freak a few layers ahead.
