Space Lovers is an electronic dance project from Italian producers, Danni Demaldé and Tommaso Cariati also known as Evans and Fisher. Here they cover Didier Marouani’s “Magic Fly” which was originally recorded in 1978 and was a crossover of a New Age theme into the disco realm. The single was also covered by Kebelektrik whose album was released on Salsoul Records and a 12” single on TK Records. The track is a wispy melody which strikes into a powerful crescendo throughout parts of the song. Here in Space Lovers it is approached with a New Beat/Belgium Beat edge which was a style created in the mid-and late 80’s. It has a pulsating bass which takes over much of the new version and hearing it in a new context is always interesting for a classic.
I have taken the 12” versions of Space Lovers’ “Magic Fly” and recreated a new resurgence of energy for this ReStructure Mix. The break is the focus of this new arrangement and it plays out in a moderate new take.
