House Fused Anthems: Astaire, Deevotion and Honesty 69

During the late 80’s after house music became the ingredient for a successful arrangement I found myself moving to a different tune. These are only 3 of the most infectious tracks which divided the beat into a new structure called “house” or “techno-house”.

“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” – Astaire
Passion Records
1991

Produced and mixed by Robin Sellars - This one closed my club back in 1991 for months. It was a great song to leave a crowd feeling good about themselves and “love”. It features the incredible, Tracy Ackerman on vocals and a climbing arrangement that was a welcome for me at a time where high energy seemed like something from far ago.

Even though the original by Bryan Adams radio hit was being over-played I still loved this dance version. It may have began the dance AM radio fade – as later anything that Adams did was an Almighty Dance single soon after.

”Up Where We Belong” – Deevotion
Ultraphonic
1992

Produced, arranged & mixed by R. Zenker & J. Lissat – Another great release crossing the house sound of the time with high energy. Vocals were performed by Dee Williams – which is where the “Dee” from “Deevotion” probably came from. This one is one of the most appropriate dance and pop ballad fusion experiences complete with that housey piano feel. There is no roadblock here – it flows magically making this one a great experience.

The vocal track is a bit thin – but works incredibly well with the structure of the song.

“Rich In Paradise” - Honesty 69
BCM Records
1990

Produced, arranged and performed by Harald Gesell, Ramon Zenker, Willi Grossmann - taking the formula of Lamont Dozier’s “Back To My Roots” which was converted to a house track by many in the late 80’s and the techno edged house cut by Lil’ Louis “French Kiss” makes this track an incredible find. I believe this one I may have extended for a half an hour back in it’s time. And it kept the floor packed and jumping for the whole time!
