Viola Wills is a disco legend who made dance floors not only recognize a fitting voice for the dance floor but also the number of times she struck more than a chord. Her hits include many cover versions with a dance arrangement including her big 1980 classic of Gordon Lightfoot’s “If You Could Read My Mind”. Viola took many different turns throughout her recording career but always remained faithful to the dance floor. “Space” is a track from her 1983 project by the same name – it was produced by Viola and her husband Robert Ashmun. The question here is how much we know of the relationships we work at and a rule of law where time apart creates growth also. The arrangement is much like a Broadway number which reaches several heights and gives off a chorus of bold believers.
I have taken the 12” versions of “Space” and laid out the song for a new ReStructure Mix. The intro is a longer fade in with some added percussion and more of the dub-like feel for this fast moving 80’s dance number.
