Venus Dodson is a vocalist whose talent appeared in many disco classics as they were in the making – including Herbie Mann’s “Superman” and the project Phreek from 1978. Her first project titled “Night Rider” is one of the disco transition pieces vocally even though the sound of Patrick Adam’s resonates throughout each song. Venus takes her voice into a more relaxed delivery and makes each line a calming and assured verse. “Night Rider” is one of my top 10 picks of all-time. It is one of the perfect moments in pure disco music. “It’s My Turn” is from the same album and gives a mature breakup some words for closure. It has some wonderful riffs and also that calm and bluesy-like delivery which Venus makes her own.
I have taken the album version of “It’s My Turn” and realigned the pieces which make the track groove in this ReStructure Mix. New drums are used to bring the rhythm some new energy and Venus again is saluted as she deserves.
