ReStructure Mix Update (5/29/24):”I Didn't Mean To Turn You On” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cherrelle

Cherrelle (Cheryl Ann Norton) is a soul/funk singer from the mid-80’s and her solo debut produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On” is one of 1984’s big dance tracks and gave Cherrelle a definite audience. The track is a heavy beat and bass arrangement with many of the samples from the new sound clips of the period. Although the song plays out in a satirical feel it has the feel of a message with more meaning thanks to the alternate take with Jam and Lewis. This number was also covered by rock icon Robert Palmer the following year in a successful delivery and in his own style.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental versions of “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On” and revisited this groove for a ReStructure Mix. Working with the dub elements and giving them new breath for breaks and segues. The new patterns are place below to reuse the groove in a new way.
