Billy Newton Davis is a soul, gospel and jazz singer/songwriter who released a singer titled “Romance” in 1981 – produced by Boh Tanasijczuk. This track is one of those pieces which have the elements of a classic underground number. It has a nice rhythm guitar and bass lead and rolls over and over into a fulfilling destination. It was one of the secret weapons that I would use to either win down a high energy night set or beef up an after-hours program. The production is dance floor intended and along with Billy’s vocals this track works like magic. Appears to be a simple execution but there is more under this great dance song as you let yourself go with it.
I have taken the 12” version of “Romance” and reworked a new ReStructure Mix to homage to both Billy as the leader of this recording and also the songs underground feel. I have reintroduced it with a new downbeat intro and a couple more added breaks.
