ReStructure Mix Update (12/29/23): ”Papillion – Hot Butterfly” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Chaka Khan
Chaka Khan is The Queen Of Funk Music – her influence began in the early 70’s along with Rufas and many new barriers were opened by this diva. Her 1980 project titled “Naughty” – produced by Arif Mardin contained a cover of Gregg Diamond’s “Hot Butterfly” which was from the Bionic Boogie project by the same name and featured the fantastic, Luther Vandross on lead vocals. This song is one which brings on many emotions as the love relationship comes to an end for two and is poetic in many of its phrases. This was another early moment for Chaka to make a song her own – and she does. A soaring performance is more than teasing and full of emotion. A memorable moment for Chaka as she makes this classic her own which she completes in her own essence.
I have taken the album version of “Papillion (Hot Butterfly)” and worked it as a dub outline for this ReStructure Mix. More beats and percussion are added and some of those memorable echoes find their way into new areas or the new arrangement.
