REISSUE: “The Only Way Is Up” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Yazz

REISSUE: “The Only Way Is Up” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Yazz Yazz (Yasmin Marie Evans) is a vocalist from Britain who is the focus of a house project produced by Coldcut (Jonathan More and Matt Black). This experimental acid-house sound was a big spot in the late 80’s and utilized the format and sound created by DJs in the formulation of a simpler and raw approach at dance music. Many of the pop bands and artists of the period used this style as a part of the 12” remix package for disc jockeys to customize the track for their format or a block of house music played during a sweaty response on the dance floor. “The Only Way Is Up” is not only an anthem with the unity, peace and love infused in the mood and lyrics but also gives way to Yazz as a new underground house figure. Following successes like Deelite and Rupaul used house music and its aura to project their own mission of a peace loving dance culture. The sound here is almost leaning heavily into the high energy sound as the power behind the drive is ominous in execution – which is why this track is a classic! I have taken the 12” original club version and dub (“Bad House Music”) to reposition this mover into a ReStructure Mix. The beats play the main stage and give another shot at feeling the unity and hope – overall a good uplifting emotion which is what disco music has always provided.
