ReStructure Mix Update (2/21/21) “Get Down Saturday Night” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Oliver Cheatham
Oliver Cheatham is an r&b singer whose career spanned from 1982 through 2002. His big dance hit “Get Down Saturday Night” from 1983 is one of the tracks that received a notable amount of play and also one of the pieces which was produced by Al Hudson, Dave Roberson and Kevin McCord of One Way (“You Can Do It”). This one is a slick dance number that carries out the message that resonates throughout the disco and 80’ synth-pop era which was the excitement to come on each weekend while stepping out. Oliver does perform this song with the mild enthusiasm and funky style which makes it hard to resist. The production is a soulful approach with a nice appeal for disco crowds as well as the laid back funk edge.
I have taken the album version of “Get Down Saturday Night” and rewired the song for a new ReStructure Mix. A longer intro with a touch of Earth Wind and Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland” bringing the promise of a little more and a few new breakdowns to move the soul.
