(212) is a disco project from 1979 produced by Joe Castellon and Stan Bronstein and brings several big band tracks to life and another classic piece titled “Gaz-O-Lean”. “Daddy” is a swing classic written by Bobby Troup (yes, the Bobby Troup from the 70’s show “Emergency”.). The song was recorded by Sammy Kaye and released in 1941 and is another femme de shark story of a woman of the night club scene with dollar signs bigger than her heart. The song is all in good fun and lays out this way as this disco-fied version which takes on the disco chorus girls working their gifts long before Madonna had a chance in the 80’s. The production is a definite 70’s throwback with the cowbell ringing out the energy but there is nice big band flare which plays with any dance floors imagination.
I have taken the 12” and album version of (212)’s “Daddy” and gave it a twirl for homage to the independent label Friends and Co. in this ReStructure Mix. A downbeat pounds out the bands passages and use of that old cowbell are used again.
