Freda Payne is a vocalist whose early recordings featured jazz, and big band numbers and eventually landed her a pop hit in 1970 titled “Band Of Gold” - produced by the Motown trio Holland, Dozier and Holland. The song became an instant soul classic and now Freda as a household name among music enthusiasts the track was her literal “gold”. The song has an endearing sound and moving lyrics which are projected by Freda in a youthful and emotional delivery. In 1993 high-energy producers Ian Levine and Rick Giantos paid homage to the classic with an Almighty Records cover in the 90’s club circuit sound. This release marked again a new audience for the single and a wonderful remembrance for the original for those who lived through the impact of the original.
I have taken the 12” versions of Almighty Records cover of “Band Of Gold” and gave my own homage to both in this ReStructure Mix. I have used rhythm elements of all versions and created a new arrangement for this touching number.
