ReStructure Mix Update (10/29/25): ”Dog Was A Doughnut”  – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Cat Stevens
Cat Stevens is a 60s folk, pop and rock artist who made a shift in his creative process in 1977 with an electronic piece titled, “Dog Was A Doughnut” from his album “Izitso”. The track was a simple keyboard rhythm accentuated by a few climatic moments where the psychodelica takes over. An experimental piece for 1977 in rhythm and execution. The lasting effect was felt through 1983 when a street track titled “Salsa Smurf” by Special Request on Tommy Boy Records replayed the outline in a new display of homage and rekindling the original moment. Although the bass lines are a light tapping of intrinsic energy they fulfill the underground style of many early influences in dance music.
I have taken the album version of “Dog Was A Doughnut” and readministered the track with a new energy for this ReStructure Mix. Using the keyboard segments in their original state and also adding a few guest appearances from Laurie Anderson. A heavy early morning beat keep the bass alive in a new experience.
