ReStructure Mix Update (7/9/25): ”Givin’ Up” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Bobby ‘O

Bobby Orlando is one of the dance producers who traveled the road from the late 70s disco era onto his own legacy of formulating a new genre in the early 80s called high energy. Many of his early 80s productions focused on an electronic arrangement with heavy drums and percussion. “Givin’ Up” is from his project from 1983 titled “Freedom In An Unfree World” which features his signature sound. His formula was a successful transition for the 80s where many of his themes and outlines were tracks that were to the point and often left field ideas. “Givin’ Up” is as simple as many of his pieces from his period, however the hard hitting arrangements give off a lure for both the ears and feet.

I have taken the 12” version of “Givin’ Up” and played out another opportunity to pay homage to Orlando in this ReStructure Mix. A new intro and shift in the delivery of the song are the new play here.

ReStructure Mix Update (7/8/25): ”Money” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Flying Lizards

The Flying Lizards are David Cunningham and Patti Palladin - an experimental nu-wave ensemble who recorded their version of the 1959 soul classic “Money” - written by Motown founder Barry Gordy and performed by Barrett Strong. Released in 1979 on Virgin Records, this recording became an alternative cover and an interesting effect on dance floors. The new wave scene devoured this release and made this style a staple to be an influence on many 80s groups. The piece follows close to the original melodies with a distorted take on the instrumentation as well as vocals. It can be a fun excursion into the shift and growth of musical history. This single was produced by David Cunningham.

I have taken the 12” version of The Flying Lizards’ “Money” and placed it in a new direction on this ReStructure Mix. The original version by Barrett Strong is pieced into the arrangement along with another classic by The O’Jays. Another movement for this number to give us a “thrill”.

Laser is an electronic disco project from producer Wolfgang Hermes and produced in Germany/ The track “Laser” is one of the hypnotic pieces where the sequencers pump out as much energy as a dance floor could take. Meanwhile a journey through an imaginative galaxy of laser lights engulfs the room. An instrumental which relies on the technology theme to excite the mind and feet.A popular track for after hours playsets and also for those moments where the music takes an unexpected turn.

ReStructure Mix Update (6/26/25): ”Happenin All Over Again” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Lonnie Gordon

Lonnie Gordon is most recognizable for her force house tracks from the early 90’s however her voice reining the dance floor was initiated from her vocal with Quartzlock in the late 80s and their tracks “No Regrets” (a cover of Tom Waite’s 1967 ballad) and “Love Eviction”. Her solo career included the track “Happenin All Over Again” from 1990 - produced by Stock, Aitken and Waterman. This heartbreak song is another one of the pieces that Lonnie pours her heart and emotions into for an unforgettable performance in her own style. The house movement of the late 80s began to morph into several areas and this Italo-house layout became one of the many successful and lasting ones.

I have taken the “Hip-hop House” version from the 12” of “Happenin All Over Again” and challenged those beats again for this ReStructure Mix. The beats and hard driving synths playout in new edits and arrangement and more of the instrumental foreground is worked a few more times for effect.

Rose Laurens is a French vocalist who began her recording career in the early 80’s and continues currently releasing material. Her single from 1986 titled “American Love” produced by Jean-Pierre Goussaud is one of the synth-pop beauties of the mid-80’s. This mid-tempo track is a love note from an international lover dreading the departure of her romance to be. With Rose’s soft and emotional delivery this early morning production which seems haunting at times.

I have taken the 12” remix on the Passion label and the 2 instrumental to transform this goodbye into a new ReStructure Mix. The segments which power this beautiful song are used again in new sections for this remix.

Jaydee (Edgar Robin Albers) is a Dutch disc jockey turned producer/artist in 1992 with his big tribal house track titled, “Plastic Dreams”. This single hit clubs at the appropriate moment and became an instant classic among many club genres and playlists. The kick back arrangement focuses on the beat intervals and then on a mysterious keyboard jam session which became the sound of the early 90’s. One of the innovative tracks in the club/house sector and still rings true to its initial response.

I have taken the 12” version of “Plastic Dreams” and relayered the piece in a new ReStructure Mix. Taking a few pieces from French Kiss’ “Panic” and Marsha Raven’s “I Like Plastic” to even out the levels from different dance periods.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Jaydee himself.

Difference is a French disco group whose single “High Fly” from 1979 is a track that was a hit on international dance floors. The track was produced by Jean Claude Ako and features his keyboards. This number is a fast moving song which wastes no time from the intro throughout the arrangement in stirring up as much bass and horns. It has been one of the rare pieces known by the disco audiophiles who dig deep in those bins.

I have taken the 12” version of “High Fly” and readministered a new layout with a new and longer wear for this ReStructure Mix. I have added some new percussion and beats to this remix to give some new segments a go at the energy.

Kylie Minogue is a British singer and songwriter who has taken the late 80’s as her starting point and has managed to create a stage for herself to date. “I Believe In You” is a single from 2004 and her

project titled, “Ultimate Kylie” - produced by Scott David Hoffman and Jake Shears. This number is a dreamy love ballad directed at the heart of her love and belief in a love which seems to flow as well as this intrinsic track. The sequencer rolls into an almost climatic moment each time the chorus enters. It is one of Kylie’s lovely songs which reflect her sensual and towering grasp on her material.

I have taken the 12” original mix and segment of the “Mylo Dub” of “I Believe In You” and reapplied a new outline for a more underground ReStructure Mix. I have left intact the flowing verses and chorus and also taken segments into a deeper dub flare.

Lisa Fischer is a r&b singer from the early 80’s who released her first album “So Intense” in 1991 - which contained her dance single produced by Naratha Michael Walden titled, “Save Me”. The track was a club hit and stirred more curiosity for this voice which released an echo of vibrancy and power. A desperate appeal for a lover to save her from loneliness and despair this piece works on many levels including the many riffs that ornate the arrangement.

I have taken the 12” versions of “Save Me” and worked on piecing it together with the Red Zone house dub for this ReStructure Mix. New layers of the drum track are used in a new under current for the soulful energy here.
