ReStructure Mix Update (3/30/17) “Boogie With Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Poussez!

ReStructure Mix Update (3/30/17) “Boogie With Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Poussez!

Poussez! Is a disco project from Alphonse Mouzon and features the incredible vocals of Christine Wiltshire – also known for Musique, Aural Exciters, Phreek, Revanche, DSK and Class Action as well as various backing sessions in soul, funk and disco music. This dance project is brought to life with the lead vocals of Christine along with Holly Oas and Ruderial Blackwell. “Boogie With Me” is one of the sweetest disco tracks with the syncopated rhythms to move it along with the funky keyboards and soaring disco strings. A favorite of mine and another project which I grew to love Christine Wiltshire’s talent even more.

I have taken the album version of “Boogie With Me” and reworked this ReStructure Mix to create a whole new playground for Christine’s vocals and Alphonse’s swift production. This remix is taking the core essence of the production and working it over and over. Added to the chorus is a cameo from Ms. Martha Wash.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/27/17) “Another Boy In Town” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Two Girls

ReStructure Mix Update (3/27/17) “Another Boy In Town” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Two Girls

Two Girls is a high energy project from producer Anthony Monn – also known for his creative force of Magnifique, ORS, and projects by Judy Cheeks and Amanda Lear. “Another Boy In Town” is an electronic/high energy number that gives a delivery similar to Fancy in a rolling serenade of these girls taking notice of the potential catch on the dance floor. This one pours every ounce of energy out of the thumping synthesizers and the erotic female vocals that echo throughout the club as the dance floor worships its manifesto. A nice change for Anthony Monn who also gave us a similar trip with “Magnifique” in the early 80’s.

I have taken the German 12” club mix and instrumental to work out a new ReStructure Mix with more of an intro into the scandal. More of the keyboard riffs are placed where space is needed and a break from the ominous energy of this nice high energy anthem.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/26/17) “Danced Turned To A Romance” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Jones Girls

The Jones Girls are Brenda Elaine Jones, Shirley Yvonne Jones and Valorie Denise Jones – a trio which joined the disco ranks in 1979 with their hit, “You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else” . The production from the Philadelphia International duo of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff gave the dance floors a return to the soul edge of their talents along with the disco formula of the period. Their second album from 1980 titled “At Peace With Woman” contained their second radio and club hit “Dance Turned To A Romance” which is the perfect morning after track with their beautiful harmonies and the romantic interlude which leads to love and happiness.

I have taken the album version and created a flowing ReStructure Mix only adding an intro and a few breakdowns to not only extend this beauty, but also bring it into the dreamy dub arena where it feels comfortable. One of the lovely Philly-disco songs that I was so happy to work with.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/25/17) “I Need Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Capricorn

ReStructure Mix Update (3/25/17) “I Need Love” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Capricorn

Capricorn is an Italo-disco project from Claudio Simonetti who also produced projects by Kasso, Easy Going and Vivian Vee. His work with keyboards and an innovative approach to a new style of dance music gives him a unique flavor and sound. “I Need Love” is the third single from Capricorn from 1982 and a track that worked for me in the electronic dance transition. A nice funky bass line over fast rhythmic hand clap loops. The vocals work in the funk-punk arena reciting a love song with a yearning for physical attention. One of my favorite Italo-disco songs that I always refer to once I bring my mind to the early 80s.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to work this alternate ReStructure Mix and lay out a new arrangement using the nice elements. The chorus is given a bit more of an extensive meaning here and the play on percussion elements enhanced.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/24/17) “Dancing At The Disco” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – L.A.X.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/24/17) “Dancing At The Disco” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – L.A.X.

L.A.X. is one of the leading funk-disco projects to lead the 80s into a New York Funk frenzy thanks to projects from the Prelude Records label and success with groups like Change (“A Lover’s Holiday”). Produced by Ralph Benatar and Biram Benelux. “Dancing At The Disco” was the first single from the first album and is a nice funk edged disco track that pours our layers of horns, percussion, bass and the sexy female disco riff. It was a huge shift in the Euro-disco presence of releases prior which were big hits for many major club/disco labels. The early 80s shifted to a lesser bpm and a more funk driven format in many playlists urging a new brand of dance music.

I have taken the 12” vocal and instrumental to create a ReStructure Mix which leaves the hard hitting funk edge intact. A new intro slowly guides in the hard hitting horns and snaps. This one was always a favorite of mine and reminds me of a time where disco music made its mark and was now the big influence on bands and producers to keep the mirror ball alive for the many who were not yet done dancing and romancing.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/23/17) “Too Damn Hot” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Duncans

ReStructure Mix Update (3/23/17) “Too Damn Hot” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – The Duncans
The Duncans are Phyllis and Helen Duncan – also known as The Duncan Sisters. Their vocals have successfully lightened disco projects from Ian Guenther and Willi Morrisson – also known as THP Orchestra (Three Hats Productions). Several of the productions better known are also Sticky Fingers as well as the THP #2 project. In 1981 the duo released “Gonna Stay In Love” an album which contained the single “Too Damn Hot”. This single was left out following the fading of top notch disco singles and an appropriate version for clubs to desire. It is the blaring horns of THP and the fabulous vocals of their wonderful gals.

I have taken the 12” version of “Too Damn Hot” to rework this ReStructure Mix and extend the “hot” elements along with the ladies. It was always a favorite of mine and plays out as one of the disco productions that exude that flavor that Guenther and Morrisson so marked in the disco era.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/22/17) “Take It Slowly” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Nancy Martinez

ReStructure Mix Update (3/22/17) “Take It Slowly” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Nancy Martinez

Nancy Martinez is a Canadian singer who is also known as Jade and Nancy Martin under several successful dance singles. Her 1983 album “Lay It Down” (produced by Joe La Greca) is one of the 80s artists whom brought back the beautiful sound of disco music with her vocal style. “Take It Slowly” is one of my favorite high energy tracks of the period since it flows like a lilting disco love song along with the full force electronic production. It is a return the pure disco edge and always makes one feel that positive energy that the disco dance floor is known for.

I have taken the original Canadian 12” with the vocal, instrumental and dub and re-edited a ReStructure Mix with a few new pieces added to produce a somewhat duet piece along with Ms. Barbra Streisand and another love song to accent the mood here. This one always fit into my program during its release and often refer to it when in that mood to fall in love with the true meaning of disco music all over again.

Disco, with love ... the heart knows rhythm.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/21/17) “Disco Jam” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eddie Drennon

ReStructure Mix Update (3/21/17) “Disco Jam” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Eddie Drennon

Eddie Drennon is a violinist and producer who released a dance album in 1978 titled “It Don’t Mean A Thing” co-produced by Joe Bana (of Friends and Co. Records). The project is one of the Casablanca Records releases which takes disco music along a new area and features Latin bandleader, Tito Puente on percussion. “Disco Jam” is one of the big tracks that use layers of percussion to move in string breaks and a disco ensemble pouting out the funk. It is a rare number for many unless one of your club stops had a disc jockey who delved deeper into the disco charts.

I have taken the album version of “Disco Jam” and reworked a ReStructure Mix which plays out as the original with a few new placement markers for the funky bass, guitars and the disco chant. It plays a bit longer and also uses a sample from the film “Car Wash” to give the mix an added touch.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/20/17) “Love Boat” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Amanda Lear

ReStructure Mix Update (3/20/17) “Love Boat” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Amanda Lear

Amanda Lear is one of disco music’s greatest acts from the late 70s. Her music always filled the mystique that was needed in this space where fantasy and sexuality were sometimes more than ones imagination. In 2001 Amanda released a disco-house version of the 70s television show theme “Love Boat” – a track covered many times in the disco arena. This bouncy version was one that fit perfectly with the heavy breathy sound of her sexy vocals. It is one of the rare millennial pieces that I will include in a ReStructure Mix but as homage to this stage diva it is provided.

I have taken the vocal and instrumental from the 12” of “Love Boat” by Amanda Lear and reworked a ReStructure Mix with several break downs to party over and over with. It also contains a few pieces from another boat – a bigger boat from the 70s in the disaster movie genre – with thanks to Mr. John Williams. It is a bit of fun for those adventurous nights.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/19/17) “Young Guns (Go For It)” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Wham!

ReStructure Mix Update (3/19/17) “Young Guns (Go For It)” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Wham!

Wham! is one of the pop-groups of the 80s consisting of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. Their influence on the new dance movement of the 80s took the NY funk and gave it a lighter edge. “Young Guns (Go For It)” is from their 1983 album “Fantastic” – produced by Steve Brown and fits into a breaking of best friends as time moves on. It is one of the sounds of the 80s pop dance scene which explores a whole new audience and message. Pieces of a familiar Prelude classic add to its unique edge.

I have taken the 12” version of “Young Guns (Go For It)” and created a deeper rolling bass piece to give this ReStructure Mix a different feel and arrangement. It is flares out in the same way but at different times. It is another Special Edition to celebrate the continuance of what disco music created in the seventies and also pay homage to the talent and recent passing of Mr. George Michael.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/17/17) “You Got To Move It On” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Rofo

Rofo is a disco project from producer Fonny De Wulf and Ronny Verrept. The high energy explosion in the early 80s brought on a deep and pulsating sound of keyboards and synthesizers pounding out a dance beat. “You Got To Move It On” is the third single from Rofo and begins a love song with a dreamy energy. Much of what this studio project set out to represent. Dance floors came alive with tracks like this and made the transition from synth-pop to a more definitive club sound.

I have taken the original 12” version of “You Got To Move It On” and created a new ReStructure Mix which plays out with loops and re-editing from the original arrangement. More energy is pulled from the original elements with a touch of the loop edits that mark more of the excitement that the 80s electronic edge was so familiar with.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/15/17) “Let Me Down Easy” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

ReStructure Mix Update (3/15/17) “Let Me Down Easy” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – First Choice

First Choice holds a record as the pure sound of disco from beginning to end. An extreme blend of soulful vocals on a disco stage. Their 1978 album “Hold Your Horses” – produced by Tom Moulton, Thor Baldursson, and McKinley Jackson is the top of disco peaks with so many tracks that pair out as winning. “Let Me Down Easy” is from the side one medley and starts out like a bang and continues with chorus and chorus of definitive vocals and reason. This cover of the Rare Pleasure classic from 1976 stays close to the original adding only a powerful jazz and drum session to give it the disco edge of its time.

I have taken the album version of “Let Me Down Easy” and reworked as much as possible a new ReStructure Mix using many of the peak hour live remix techniques to present a whole new edit. This one is a top 100 for me and always had me proud of what the dance floor held in high esteem then. The First Choice sound given a booth uplift!

"Secret Love" by Viola Wills - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Secret Love" by Viola Wills - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Viola Wills took many classic pop tunes and created disco classics from them. Her vocals have always brought us to a great place where the mirror ball spins above the fantasy and drama on the floor. Her 1980 album “If You Could Read My Mind” is a stand for Viola which marks a great time in dance history. The single “Secret Love” is done in her delivery which echoes on and on with emotion.

I have taken the 12” version of “Secret Love” and created this Disco Video Mix using footage from the 1953 western musical “Calamity Jane” starring Doris Day and Howard Keel – with the crescendo intact where Doris serenades us into a lovely place.

"Everybody Needs Somebody Sometime" by Ann Margret - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Ann Margret is given a disco title with the talent of producer Paul Sabu (Debbie Jacobs, Sister Power, Sabu) in 1980 with her single “Love Rush”. A true captive moment for sex-kitten of the 60s who is transformed into the lure of the disco beat and the fabulous stage sound of Sabu’s magic. Her follow up single “Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes” is another track that is perfection for Ann with a downbeat and moody yet sensual feel. It is another track that made disco music echo longer throughout the early 80s.

I have taken the single “Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes” and edited a Disco Video Mix appropriately with the 1971 comedy-drama film “Carnal Knowledge” with Ann Margret and Jack Nicholson in the foreground. The film which explores relationships that are based on light sexual encounters plays out well in the sexy feel of this disco track. It is a photoplay for the beauty that Ann Margret displays throughout the film.

"Frantic Love" by Eastbound Expressway - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Frantic Love" by Eastbound Expressway - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Eastbound Expressway is a disco ensemble from producers Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench. Their disco orchestrations from their 1979 album brought this group to dance floors during the dance peak of 1979. In the early 80s the ladies took a shift into the high energy set with tracks like “Primitive Desire” and “Frantic Love”. It was the turning point and survival of dance music which seemed to morph again for the times. “Frantic Love” is a fast moving dance number which sounds like a Broadway musical on steroids. Always a favorite of mine and a floor packer for my sets.

I have taken the 1957 romantic musical “Funny Face” with Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn. The fashion edge in the storyline helps bring the dance numbers and music alive in this George Gershwin Broadway hit. The energy works with the disco number and plays out in synchronization.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/11/17) “Baby, Won’t You Dance With Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vera

ReStructure Mix Update (3/11/17) “Baby, Won’t You Dance With Me” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Vera

Vera is a Patti Masi who brought the mystique of disco music alive in the early 80s. Her big club hit “Take Me To The Bridge” from 1981 –produced by Louis Toteda was one the most talked about release in dance circles. It was also my cure for my own desire to hear a beautiful disco arrangement brought up to date at the time. Following this single a flood gate of hits followed bringing Vera a stand on dance floors everywhere. “Baby, Won’t You Dance With Me” is from 1983 and Vera’s album titled “Joey” which became the resource for this ladies beautiful vocal and connection to dance floors.

I have taken the vocal and instrumental of the original Canadian 12” release of “Baby, Won’t You Dance With Me” to work a ReStructure Mix with a non-stop energy injected into the already moving dance arrangement. Using the beautiful sound of the chorus as the outline for more of this incredible stomper which has always been a big hit for my dance floors and me.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Patti Masi (Vera) who will always bring to my mind a wonderful period of rediscovery for lovely dance tracks and haunting performances – and to Louis Toteda for being an incredible producer, writer and musician.

ReStructure Mix Update (3/9/17) “Close Your Eyes” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Queen Samantha

ReStructure Mix Update (3/9/17) “Close Your Eyes” - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Queen Samantha
Queen Samantha is Gloria Brooks on vocals and disco arrangements from Harry Chalkitis. The group is best known for a blend of Euro-disco with a mystique feel. “Take A Chance” is their big hit from 1979 which became one of the favorable moods from dance floors of the time as it weaved layer on layer of disco syrup heavily. “Close Your Eyes” is from the 1979 album titled “Queen Samantha” and plays out like a high energy love letter. The release was a delayed on US release with a remix on Megatone Records in 1982 – remixed by Bernie Bernthaier. It brings to mind that lingering of the classic disco sound becoming a new style titled ‘high energy’.

I have taken parts of the original 12” release and the Megatone 12” remix to create a new ReStructure Mix for this beauty. More of the dub-like breaks are created to give this one the feel of this group and its sound. It was a great track for me during the disco transition in the early 80s and with a place mark in the San Francisco high energy movement it rings out even more.

"People Come Dance" by Ednah Holt & Starluv - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Ednah Holt (also a member of The Ritchie Family and Holt ’45) paired up with ensemble titled Starluv in 1979 for a rousing disco track titled, “People Come Dance”. Produced by Wiley Hicks who also brought us “Come Inside My Love” by Bonnie Oliver. This West End Records classic has the energy and excitement that the crest of the disco wave made as it swept floors with its magic. “People Come Dance” is one of my favorites from their catalogue and still places itself as a disco anthem.

I have created a Disco Video Mix using “People Come Dance” and scenes from the comedy, “Bring It On” from 2000. The film gives a cheerleading squad competition the focus of its high school characters in contest of jumps, leaps and poses. It is the perfect environment for the disco track which has the energy to complete it.

This Disco Video Mix is dedicated to my good friend, Felix Prince who passed a few years ago. His music and energy is missed and thanks to his comments about this disco tracks which gave me the inspiration for this Disco Video Mix pairing.

"Money" by The Flying Lizards - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

"Money" by The Flying Lizards - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

The Flying Lizards are David Cunningham and Patti Palladin. The experimental recordings that fit for an appropriate point in dance music where punk, new wave and synth-pop began to emerge from the success of the disco music wave. “Money” is their 1979 single and an odd-cover of the 1959 Barret Strong soul-classis – co-written by Motown founder Barry Gordy. The Flying Lizards take the mood of the original and give it a slight twist of care and attitude. This one was quite popular in clubs where experimental DJs worked it into their programs. It is an opportunity to give up your senses to a new generation of sound.

I have taken the accosted song and created a Disco Video Mix using scenes from the 1979 comedy film, “The Jerk” starring Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. The outline is obvious and the goal tears away the purpose here. It is another twisted effect to use in this Disco Video Mix that rarely goes broke.

“Soul Sister” by Ronnie Jones – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

“Soul Sister” by Ronnie Jones – Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera

Ronnie Jones is a blues and R&B singer whose career led him into the disco arena in the mid-70s with his album “Looking For Action” – produced by Jürgen S. Korduletsch. Ronnie’s sound fit many of his dance tracks that reflect soulful and soft natured edge energy for both high energy and disco-funk. “Soul Sister” is a track that is an early movement of disco from the Munich disco sound. Sweet and bouncy with a touch of the strings and arrangements that shaped disco into refinement.

I have taken the disco classic “Soul Sister” and paired it in this Disco Video Mix along with scenes from the 1974 television detective series, “Get Christie Love” starring Teresa Graves – focusing more of the theme of the beautiful and sassy undercover agent working her charm throughout the action and crime she encounters in the underworld.
