"Love Rush" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Ann Margret

• "Love Rush" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Ann Margret

Ann Margret is the darling of the 60’s movie screen. Many of her film roles included her sensual and determined vocals. In 1979, disco music was very honored to welcome Margret onto the dance floors with her disco debut, “Love Rush” on Ocean/Ariola Records.

This was of course an attempt to burst into the disco trend of the time, but well worth it. Produced by Paul Sabu, Marc Kreiner and Tom Cossie – this single from the LP titled “Ann Margret” had the power to open doors to any dance floor. A fabulous string ensemble and infectious percussion track make this one last forever.

A ReStructure in this sense is well worth it – I dedicate this mix to Randy Sumner of Palm Springs. We had talked about this track this past weekend and I looped a vocal track that we laughed about over and over with. Thank you, Randy – you are a “winner”!

"Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - GQ

• "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - GQ

In 1978 disco reached a period when the sound was very sophisticated and "chic" - much of the music of this time reflected the night life off of the excitement occurring in clubs. GQ was a band which became an anthem for nightlife.

Produced by Beau Ray Fleming with mixing assistance by Jimmy Simpson this venture was one of disco musics most promising of it's time. "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" is still considered a classic among the top. It is a slick and well executed track.

I have ReStructured the cut using more of the percussion elements and also pumping up some additional breaks. This one goes out to all of the die-hards who can't get enough of this fantastic sound - it will live on-and-on.

"Extraterrestrial Lover" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chantal Pierre (Sylvia Love)

• "Extraterrestrial Lover" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Chantal Pierre (Sylvia Love)

Producer Trevor Vallis and writers Mike Brayn and Steve Coe created an underground disco classic that takes the dance floor into a fantasy world. The vocal was recorded under the name of Sylvia Love originally but now known as Chantal Pierre.

Chantal recently appeared on Strictly Confidential and I promised to remix her classic track - this is that venture. I have taken into mind that the track needed an arrangement that kept Chantal's wonderful vocal intact. I have laid out a new synthesizer base which brings a completely new feel to the song.

This is dedicated to Chantal who is a lovely lady and I thank for making me "fly" in my mind with this incredible performance.

• "Instant Replay" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Dan Hartman

Dan Hartman was 1978’s mover in any discotheque. The energy and excitement this track contained was infectious and indeed a sound that disco music would soon clamor for.

Dan Hartman produced the track and the 12” single featured a Tom Moulton mix, which is pure magic. I have ReStructured the track and pieces parts of the production that move the most and also created some new breaks along the way

Rinder and Lewis released a project titled “Warriors” in 1979 – their work has always been instrumental in formulating disco music during the mid and late 70's. Discognosis, El Coco, In Search Of Orchestra, Le Pamplemousse, Saint Tropez, and Tuxedo Junction were some of their outstanding contributions to the dance era.

“Warriors” was a disco venture, which outlined a few hits from the 60’s dance floor – luckily they took on a cover of Johnny Otis’ “Willie and The Hand Jive” – but on disco terms. The percolating synthesizers and percussion work this track as if it were created for the disco beats and along a persuasive vocal.

This has always been one track that I honored as deep-rooted disco.

Taking the 1988 John Waters’s comedy “Hairspray” and applying it to this track hit me and is now a new take on 60’s meets 70’s. Ricki Lake, Divine, Jerry Stiller, Deborah Harry, Ruth Brown and Sonny Bono are among the talent that has kept this film alive even today. Waters created a true classic with this project.

• "Working My Way Back To You" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Spinners

Michael Zager and Jerry Love produced the Spinners1979 LP "Dancin' and Lovin'". The LP was a venture into disco assimilation of the time.

"Working My Way Back To You" was a cover of The Four Seasons' 1965 hit - this track was a perfect match for the vocals of the Spinners. Their disco version was a big hit on dance floors and the single climbed up the charts immediately. This track is still considered a disco classic in it's own right.

I received a request for a ReStructure by Caesar. My concept was to apply a new bass beat along with a few surprises along the way.

"Feels Like I'm In Love" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Kelly Marie

Kelly Marie burst back onto dance floors with "Feels Like I'm In Love" in 1979 - the track made it's way to the top of dee jay play lists all over. The "feel" of the song was definitely what dance floors were celebrating at the time.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Paul in New York - there are plenty of new elements here. Lots of drums, synths and beats to bring out a savage dancer in anyone :)

• "I Need A Man" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Grace Jones

Tom Moulton's genius is displayed throughout this classic track by Grace Jones. "I Need A Man" is pure disco in its simplest form: driving bass, sophisticated strings, Afro-Cuban percussion, and classic act taking over the vocal. Grace Jones became the mistress of the club world with this one.

"I Need A Man" has been ReStructured with a bit of rearranging on the lamented elements of this disco single. After reassessing the production of the original you may find something new in it.

Alec R. Costandinos has placed his name high above the wall of disco greats – and with projects like “Romeo & Juliet” from 1977 it is no wonder. Recorded in London using some of the most talented and remarkable musicians and technical engineers from the disco era.

This creation disco-fied William Shakespeare’s tale of love and tragedy and made it a common know masterpiece among disco audiophiles. It is truly a wonderful piece of music that transcends dance floors.

Taking Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 “Romeo & Juliet” featuring Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting and match the drama is the only way I could pay homage to Costandinos for his genius. It is truly an experience that brought tears to my eyes.

"I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Inner Life

• "I'm Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Inner Life

The tail end of the disco era brought some appropriate dance anthems – one of them being Inner Life’s “I’m Caught Up (In A One Night Love Affair)” which featured Jocelyn Brown’s fabulous vocal performance.

This one was a real showstopper – an emotional and soulful showcase. Produced by Patrick Adams with his trademark sound of percussion and strings taking part in the drama.

This ReStructure is taking the track into another place where no boundaries are present. It is dedicated to a period where dance music gave us what we needed – pure soul.

• "Love Me Tonight (Turn Off The Light)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Karen Silver

Karen Silver scored high in 1979 with a cover of Sam and Dave's classic soul track, "Hold On I'm Comin'" and "Fake" - with productions by Gino Soccio and John Driscoll these tracks were bound to win on the dance floor.

"Love Me Tonight (Turn Off The Light)" was from the LP "Set Me Free" which also featured her funky single, "Nobody Else". The 12 inch track was 4:00 minutes in length - not long enough for such a powerful and alluring disco number.

• "It's Not What You Got It's How You Use It" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Carrie Lucas

Carrie Lucas made a big dent in the history of disco music by creating a soulful and ageless sound with her light-fell good vocal - this was also achieved by using ensembles like The Whispers as backup.

"It's Not What You Got It's How You Use It" is a track from 1980 that kept the flow of disco music moving during desperate times. It is still referred to as one of the most beautiful and lyrical dance tracks that may not be on every list - but that is what makes it special.

Produced by Leon Sylvers II and Dick Griffey (Carrie's husband) for Solar - this ReStructure was formulated with a Calypso style in mind - dedicated to Lucas fans everywhere.

Joe La Greca along with Denis LePage created Diva’s “Double Trouble” – a big hit for the Canadian disco movement in the early 80’s. Studio bands like Lime helped to bridge the sound of disco music in transition from Euro-disco to an electronic fusion.

“Double Trouble” is complete assembling of the La Greca and LePage disco sound, which dominated dance floors throughout the 80’s.

I have taken Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers On A Train” from 1951 starring Farley Granger and Robert Walker to complete the statement from the disco track. Walker takes control of Farley’s life by murdering a nuisance wife who begins a tale of suspense and action. Anyone who has seen the film will understand what is intended here.

Myself being an extreme Hitchcock fan could not wait to use this masterpiece in a Video Mix.

• "Mission To Venus" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Silver Convention

Silver Convention was Germany's disco ensemble who made boogie music into disco. From "Get Up And Boogie" and "Fly Robin Fly" to "Spend The Night With Me" this project produced by Michael Kunze and featuring musicians such as, John Davis, Don Renaldo, and the powerhouse vocals of Ramona Wulf, Rhonda Heath and Zenda Jacks.

"Mission To Venus" was always one of my favorite Silver Convention tracks - thanks to the soaring synthesizers and bongo breaks - and now with a full ReStructure which not only gives a new funky undertone to the track but adds more "soaring" to these lovely ladies ecstasy.

Dedicated to Hans in Holland for being a trouper with the femme disco ensembles.

Angela Clemmons had a bit dance floor hit in 1982 with "Give Me Just A Little More Time" - produced by Paul Leka (Gloria Gaynor, Paul Mauriat And His Orchestra, Steam).

This track took dance floors by surprise - a cover of the Chairman Of The Board soul classic was perfect for pumping discotheques when disco was in transition. It kept the energy and flow which disco music was known for.

Ms. Clemmons had been working on backing choruses for artists like Kashif, and Cyndi Lauper - this hit gave her a chance to step out in front for a bit. And well worth it.

This ReStructure gives more essence to the beat and also a touching fade out for those who have hearts that melt easily.

• "Crank It Up (Funk Town)" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Peter Brown

Peter Brown started a disco extravaganza with his LP “Fantasy Love Affair” in 1977 – it brought disco classics “Do You Want To Get Funky With Me” and “Dance With Me” into a whole new arena. Progressive arrangements and keyboards brought Brown’s vocal to life.

“Crank It Up (Funk Town)” was from his follow up LP “Stargazer” in 1979 – this track stomped its way onto dance floors and created quite a stir. It is stir one of the most rockin’ disco tracks around.

I have ReStructured it and added a few new breaks along with a few new robotic keyboard riffs to create a “Funk Town” feel.

Morrison and Guenther were incredibly talented producers who made a difference in disco music – with projects like Southern Comfort, Sticky Fingers, American Fade, Grand Tour, The Duncan Sisters, The Immortals, Skatt Bros., Hazell Dean, and Lana Pallay.

“Two Hearts, One Love” is from the LP “Good To Me” and is a beautiful and funky disco experience. Taking the vocals of Joyce Cobb over their production was quite an event.

My ReStructure is dedicated to David from Oakland for his support and good disco sense!

Jessica Williams' "Queen Of Fools" was an exciting entry on dance floors everywhere. Not only did it display Jessica's wonderful talent as a vocalist but also had the Simon Soussan magic.

Soon after The Simon Orchestra LP this project brought dance floors to their knees. With the presence of heartbreak and down on her knees, this "Queen Of Fools" outlines love's painful effects of a cheating lover. It contained some of the most electrifying synthesizer breaks and percussion breaks ever.

I have taken the opportunity to ReStructure some of these elements to give you a new look and feel for Jessica's hit.

"Breathless" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Trax

• "Breathless" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Trax

This is the kind of gem that you reminds what disco music was about. Produced by Pete Bellotte (Donna Summer, Roberta Kelly, Munich Machine, Stainless Steel, Sugar Cane, Joy Fleming, Marsha Hunt, Three Degrees) and Keith Forsey (Billy Idol, Gen X, Disco Circus, Mick Rowley, Icehouse ) – this project may remind many of tracks by La Bionda and some Euro-disco productions of the late seventies. It has everything you need.

“Breathless” is from the LP “Watch Out” – this one cooks – it has several hooks which I have ReStructured to give an even flow of energy throughout the song. This is one of my favorites when it comes to horn sections, strings, percussion and killer bass hooks.

This one is dedicated to Michael Rosensteel who is a life-long friend and I have probably danced to this in our 70’s party days in some club. Michael loves this song and that proves to me that he knows his “disco.”

"American Generation" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Ritchie Family

• "American Generation" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - The Ritchie Family

In 1978 The Ritchie Family LP “American Generation” added flair to disco music, which used the idea that an uplifting theme could resonate on the dance floor forever. Fans of this ensemble have yet to let go of this feeling.

Produced by Jacques Morali (Village People, India, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Juvet, Dennis Parker, Julius Brown) this clever LP worked on using disco to outline a more positive outlook on disco’s effect. While listening to this track you can still hear the excitement that the disco era created.

I have ReStructured the track from its LP version to give more appeal to the vocals and the fantastic orchestration – and have a little fun with some pieces of the excitement.
